"Then an awful scream rent the clamor.  Up the valley a chariot came flying, making nothing of the heaped corpses.  No horses drew it, but a great black creature that was like a camel.  In the chariot stood Natohk, his robes flying; and gripping the reins and lashing like mad, crouched a black anthropomorphic being that might been a monster ape.  The chariot and steed altered awfully.  Great wings spread from a black horror that in no way resembled a camel, and it rushed upward into the sky."
                            ~
Black Colossus, Robert E. Howard

Summoned by Natohk and commanded by the ape-demon, this black steed served the undead wizard.

I would recommend using a Nalfeshnee Demon for the ape-demon that drove the chariot and (presumbably) gibbered things at night to Natohk.

Robert E. Howard's story, "Black Colossus," was first published in Weird Tales in June of 1933.  The story can also be found in the Ace/Lancer paperback "Conan the Freebooter"; the Donald M. Grant Limited Edition "Black Colossus", and the Gnome Press collection "Conan the Barbarian".   Marvel Comics adapted the story into comic form in "The Savage Sword of Conan" issue 2.  All of these are out of print, but are usually available on eBay.
Currently in print is the British volume "The Conan Chronicles Volume I : The People of the Black Circle" which is part of Millennium's "Fantasy Masterworks" series.  ISBN: 1-85798-996-1.  It is available off of Amazon.com

To the left is the original cover of Weird Tales, June 1933, featuring a nude Yasmela appealing to a statue representing Mitra in idealized human form.  Art is by Margaret Brundage.

This is one of my favorite Conan stories.
