Recent Updates

April 19 - I added a villain I recently used in a game - Usha, the Kushite Were-Spider, using rules from Mongoose's Conan the Role Playing Game.

February 29 - Added a map of Schohira, a province of the Westermarck

February 27 - In my quest to create a better Hyborian Age map, I have now added this one.

February 24 - We played yet another session of War on the Border, a Hyborian campaign set in the Pictish wilderness. The blackest of treacheries was averted.

February 17 - I created another Map of the Hyborian Age.

February 16 - I created a map of the Westermarck to use with my game sessions.

February 15 - We played another session of War on the Border, a Hyborian campaign set in the Pictish wilderness.

February 10 - There is another fine Conan fansite with some especially well done NPC's for the new game on the web.

February 9 - The first Conan RPG game of the year!  Read the synopsis of War on the Border.

February 5 - I received Mongoose's Conan RPG today!  It is an absolutely beautiful book, better than I even dreamed.  It is a role-playing game undreamed of...  Seriously, it is gorgeous.  For once we have an OGL game whose cover is not a picture of a book cover.  Inside, I am presented with an impressive map of the Hyborian Age (available on Mongoose's Download Page).  The introduction is an inspiring set up for the game.  The overview includes 'the shortest explanation of role-playing ever written.'  The Characters section is wonderful.  I love the favoured class rules, and the well-researched races.  Indeed, the entire thing is impressively researched.  And people have talked for years on how to simulate Howard's wonderful magic system, but finally someone has done more than just talk and get it sort of right; Mongoose has nailed it on the head and gotten the system perfect!  This is the best magic system I have ever seen. If you are a Conan fan and haven't ordered it yet, do so.  If you are an RPG fan, get it.  If you are a Howard fan, it is worth getting.  If you are none of those, why are you here?

I am starting a Conan Campaign with these rules.  I will set up some pages about our adventures here.

January 12 - My book for Mongoose's Conan game is nearly finished!  You can see the details here: The Road of Kings.  I cannot even express how excited I am to be working for Mongoose on their Conan game.  Let's see if Conan can defeat all others in the RPG field!

December 9 - I have found a fantastic article that only fans my distaste for L. Sprague de Camp.

December 3 - I have added a brief rant about the Conan books written by Roland Green.

November 23 - Mongoose has released details of its Conan Game!

Nov 12 - I must apologize for the lack of updates.  I have been ungodly busy lately.  I am still interested and still read emails concerning the site.  Hopefully I can return to regular updates in January.

July 1 - Yahoo!  This site has been nominated for an ENnie for the third year in a row!  Last year the site won; let's see if Conan can defeat the others a second year in a row!  --- And it DID!  We won the Golden ENnie for best campaign website!  Fantastic!

May 9 - A recent comment on the Conan D20 message Group by Ian Sturrock, staff writer for Mongoose Publishing, seems to indicate that the upcoming Conan product will be what I am looking for.

April 18 - Added a new map of Zingara!

January 27 - Tom Plunkett wrote up a version of Conan as a pure Barbarian character.  Here he is.  (Conan of the Isles, level 25 Barbarian using the Epic rules). Mr. Plunkett is not a big fan of multi-classing.  He used the skill points to give him his "Thief" Flavor.  He used feats to give him his "Warrior" flavor.  At level 25, Conan qualifies for the Legendary Dreadnought Epic Prestige Class, so he feels future levels would come out of that prestige class.

January 26 - Yesterday, Bob, Chris, and I had the distinct pleasure of having Skip Williams (one of the designers of the three 3rd Edition Core Books, the Forgotten Realms 3E Campaign Setting, Deities and Demigods, Deep Horizon, "the Sage" from Dragon Magazine, et.al.) as our GM for Call of Cthulhu at the RPGA Winter Fantasy in Fort Wayne in an adventure called "Clutching at Ignorance."  Among the five players, Chris was the only one to survive the game, albeit permanently insane... Skip gave Bob the award for the best role-played character and gave me the award for the bravest character (for chasing after critters with a chainsaw). It was a neat adventure with several references to Robert E. Howard, Lin Carter, and others.

January 23 - From the story "Shadows in the Moonlight" (April 1934), I have converted the following monsters.  This story, originally titled "Iron Shadows on the Moon" features a slave girl, a giant ape, and strange demons on an island.  At the end of this story, Conan joins the Red Brotherhood of the Vilayet.

Olivia - A princess sold into slavery by her father.
Shah Amurath - Shah of the purple gardens of Akif, Olivia's most recent owner, conqueror of the kozaki
Sergius of Khrosha - Pirate chief of the Red Brotherhood
The Gray Man Ape - Yet another ape Conan has to fight in Howard's stories
The Statues That Had Been Men - Cursed by a god to only live by moonlight

December 31 (just barely) - I have created a Map of Conan's World that I am fairly proud of.  Let me know what you think of it.

December 30 - David Thun has sent me a 40th level Conan, giving him levels in the Epic Prestige Class "Legendary Dreadnought" because  Conan was unstoppable in all-out combat (Darn good reasoning in my eyes).   This Conan is Barbarian: 20 / Fighter: 10 / Legendary Dreadnought: 10.  Let me and David know if you like his Conan on my message board.  Personally, I think it is one of the best Conan's I have seen.

November 27 - Well, looks like the movie plans have been cancelled by Conan Enterprises, which now wants to make Conan a simpler, kinder, PG-13 character! The shame!

King Conan: Crown of Iron: Looks like hopes of seeing this third "Conan" on adventure have been dashed. IGN FilmForce reports that John Milius, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Larry and Andy Wachowski and Warner Brothers have all been given the shaft from working on the project in pretty much any capacity. Seems that Conan Properties Inc., the company that owns the Conan character, has decided not to allow Warners or the Wachowski's to renew their option on the film rights - an option that's apparently about to expire. The company is allegedly upset with how long the project was taking to develop, whilst the Wachowski's ongoing commitment to finishing "The Matrix" sequels meant it wouldn't have advanced any faster. However the project isn't entirely dead, CP Inc. wants to develop "a kinder, gentler Conan" which'll use "The Scorpion King" as a template (ie. they want a PG-13 family safe adventure). For now though, everything we know or have learned about the third Conan has been rendered void by this decision.

August 19th - I have added Epic Levels of  Conan to the site.  I present to you Conan the Conqueror, Conan the Avenger, Conan of Aquilonia, and Conan of the Isles!

August 10th - Although I haven't received official notification, Colonel Hardisson posted a message on my message board that this site WON its category in the ENnies this year!  (Unfortunately, I work nights (I teach night-school) and could not make GenCon.) I would like to give a great big, HUGE thank you to everyone who voted for my site.  THANK YOU!  Wow.  Damn, I wish I could have been there.  The support I get from Howard fans (and 3E fans in general) is extremely gratifying. Anyway, I have added a few links to the Hyborian Age D20 Campaign Site.  That site has done some good work lately with "The Tower of the Elephant", including maps and alternate versions of some of the characters from that fabulous Howard story.

July 27th - My thanks to my brother-in-law, who got me a copy of "The Whole Wide World" on video.  One of my favorite movies, one that I rented often from Blockbuster, it is nice to have my own copy.  For those of you who are not aware of this great film, it is about Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan.

June 30th - I have added a character and monster from "The God in the Bowl" and some statistics on the city of Numalia, the city featured in that tale.

June 29th - There have been a lot of neat updates at The Hyborian Age d20 Campaign Site, including some fantastic conversions of two TSR Conan modules (Conan Unchained! and Conan Against the Darkness)

June 14th - A review of the second draft of the new Conan movie can be read here.

May 30th - Hey!  I am not alone out here anymore!  Check out The Hyborian Age d20 Campaign SiteIt's a top notch site.  My hat's off to the creator, thulsa@xoth.net.  The artwork is fantastic, and it is a very clean, neat looking site.  I loved the maps.  I can't wait to see his updates (I haven't had time to really devote as much time to this site as I would like, but I am still working on characters from The God in the Bowl), especially the prestige classes.

April 16th - Updated Bêlit, Queen of the Black Coast, giving her an additional feat (I had forgotten her bonus feat for being human), and adding some stats of her ship, Tigress, based on Fantasy Flight Games' "Seafarer's Handbook."

March 29th - I have moved to a new server, thanks to a friend of mine.  Look for new updates soon.

February 7, 2002 - I have added some information on the Cosmology of Conan's world, and the Winged Gaunt, the Manotor, and a Summoning.  Coming soon will be Subotai and Thulsa Doom from "Conan the Barbarian (the movie) and characters from "The God in the Bowl."

February 6, 2002 - I have added some artwork to Pelius and the Crawler in the Dark.  I have also converted the Nika and the Drowner from RS 1 (Red Sonja Unconquered).

February 5, 2002 - I have added Zingara and Iranistan to the Hyborian Kingdoms page.

January 29, 2002 - I have added characters from "Rogues in the House" to the site.

January 3, 2002 - I have updated the Kingdoms of Hyboria page by adding Ghulistan, Nordheim, and Vendhya.

December 15th - Wow, it has been a while, hasn't it?  I've been working a lot with Lightwave, and that has taken a bunch of my time.  Anyway, I have updated Bêlit for you.  Added more text mostly.

October 12th - Updated the Red Sonja site (with new artwork on Red Sonja Level 10 and Red Sonja Level 3).

September 28th - Today is my wife's birthday and I have almost completed the transfer of my Conan site to this new location. I still have to transfer the Red Sonja files, and the Kingdoms of the Hyborian Age, but the rest should be done.

September 20th - I updated Shem, Corinthia, Ophir, and Hyperborea with new Plots and Rumors.

September 16th - I updated the kingdoms of the Hyborian Age.   Shem, Corinthia, and Hyperborea

September 6th - More characters from "Jewels of Gwahlur" by Robert E. Howard.  I have added the Servants of Bît-Yakin, Zargheba, Gorulga, Gwarunga, and Thutmekri.

September 5th - Wow.  I didn't realize it had been such a long time since I last updated this site.  My apologies. Well, I am at it again. I have opted to add more character conversions, since it has been awhile since I have done any.  I am doing the characters of "Jewels of Gwahlur".  First up: Muriela, the Corinthian Dancing Girl who pretended to be a goddess (but couldn't fool Conan).

August 19th - Added two new classes and some rules on literacy created by Scott Anderson to the Class section.  Please let him know what you think of them.  He is working on a set of Hyborian Age rules himself and he kindly allowed me to use his content here.

I have also added an update to the Hyborian Kingdoms:
Ophir, Hyrkania, and The Border Kingdom

August 7th - Next up, Argos, Brythunia, and Stygia

July 29th - The votes are in for 'The EN World d20 System Awards 2001' for Best D20 Fan Site by EN World.  Unfortunately my Conan site lost the popular vote to Jamis Buck's RPG Generators, a worthy site that I very much enjoy.  Congrats to Mr. Buck!

July 25th - Sorry about the lack of updates this month.  I have been concentrating more on Inzeladun this month.  Anyway, I am planning to revamp the countries of the Hyborian age in August in a major way, so stay tuned for that.

Also, I have created an
Awards page!  Why?  Well, because I was nominated for 'The EN World d20 System Awards 2001' for Best D20 Fan Site by EN World!

July 1st - added stats for characters from the story "The Black Stranger" (rewritten by L. Sprague De Camp as "The Treasure of Tranicos") The Black Stranger, Belesa, Tina, Count Valenso Korzetta, Strom the Barachan Pirate, Black Zarono the Buccaneer, Galbro the Seneschal

June 8th -  Wow.  It has been a lot longer since my last update than I thought!  Sorry.  I have been very busy of late.  Anyway, I revamped my Conan stats, and made him more of a Barbarian than a fighter, and included some text on most of the pages on why I made the class choices and feat choices I made.
