Amurath is Shah of Akif, and he hunted down the kozaki and defeated them, leaving only Conan alive. He was a cruel man, and tortured those kozaki whom he captured. He is a vain man, driven by his possessions and his need for them. He has quite a mind for strategy, and is a renowned warrior-general, but, of course, was no match for Conan. Amurath's slave, Olivia, ran away from Amurath's cruel degradations, and Amurath followed her, abandoning the reveling festival given in his honor for the defeat of the kozaki, and then met Conan. Conan butchered him.

Combat
Shah Amurath fights primarily with the saber, trusting to his armor for defense.

"Shadows in the Moonlight" by Robert E. Howard first appeared in the April 1934 issue of Weird Tales. It can be found also in the Lancer/Ace collection "Conan the Freebooter" and in Donald M. Grant's "Black Colossus." It is currently available in the British "Conan Chronicles Volume 1: The People of the Black Circle".
