Olanigan (Greater God): God of War, Commander of the Armies of the Elder Gods.
Symbol: Red Eye
Home Plane: The Outside
Alignment: Unknown, possibly unaligned as mortals view alignment
Portfolio: War, Victory
Worshippers: Fighters, Drychtnothians
Cleric Alignments: Usually LG, LE, or LN
Domains: Death, Destruction, Protection, Strength, Trickery,
War
Favored Weapon: Warsword
He often takes the form of a Red Sky with a Red Eye or a
powerful warrior. He is the primary god of Drychtnoth. His
Holy color is Red. His priests can use swords and other bladed
weapons. They must sacrifice to him souls of those slain in
battle. He often grants bonuses to hit and/or damage to worshippers
he favors. He has also been known to grant additional hit points to
worshippers who please him. He is served in the heavens by Lamassus.
Although often depicted in the myths of others as a type of stupid brute, he is
best understood as the wily king or general from a warrior culture. He
sits on his throne pondering warfare and the strengths of worlds, the strengths
of nations. While his brother puts faith in the strength of the individual
and the power of knowledge, Olanigan believes in the power of many, that true
strength lies in unification of societies. Olanigan wishes to see the
mortal races unified. The elves, the most resistant to this sort of
unification, thus became the enemies of Olanigan's most fervent supporters, the
Drychtnothians.
Olanigan is the commander of the armies of the Elder Gods, which means that if
anyone is ever foolish enough to bring an army against the gods, Olanigan will
stand as the general of its forces. He has a personal retinue of one
thousand heroes, all of whom are his children (from his many couplings with
mortal women) who became part of the Host of Olanigan upon their death. He
is the father to the lamassus and the griffons.
His priests are expected to be
strategists and masters of war. His
worshippers are expected to be wise, sincere, humane, courageous, and
strict. They are also trained to be deceptive.
He is worshiped by
soldiers and warriors of all kinds, those who need the protection of physical
strength, and those who protect the weak. He is associated with the animals of
war, dogs, horses, hawks, lions, and tigers. He is primarily
worshipped in Drychtnoth, Lamapacher, and
Azrael (where
he is called
Saud). The Warlords of Drychtnoth are famous for their devotion to
this bloody deity. The most famous priest of Olanigan was Khasmanen
the High Priest. Olanigan's most infamous champion is Yam ibn Saud
of Azrael. Olanigan's most holy text is the "Karatzkraxechaller ty jashat ridoth ta xorsarat OLANIGAN ja
battox kaximxler ja kaximaler" (The
Philosophies of Olanigan).
