Sir Adilbrand Noblesword is the founder of the Legion of Three Hundred. A black knight on a black horse, Adilbrand championed the downtrodden and the oppressed. He believed men were inherently good, and did not need laws to make them behave. He believed laws led men to do evil by restraining them. "One doesn't think the grass is greener on the other side until someone forbids him from going to the other side," he would say.
His battle standard was a red double-headed axe on a black field. He fought and lived primarily in the Fourth Age as a Knight of the Crown of Indor. At the time of the Cataclysm, he was put into suspended animation, and was released into the world again toward the end of the Fifth Age. He died at the end of the Seventh Age.
He is huge, muscular man, with long red hair and a
bushy red beard. He looks like a massive Viking in plate armor. A
pure-blooded Indorian, Adilbrand was quick to anger and to mirth. He is a
grim warrior who worshiped the Indorian (Norse) pantheon of gods, calling on any
or all the gods in his constant curses. He rarely uttered a sentence (it
seemed) without calling on one of the gods. "By the tits of
Sif!" or "By Odin's eye!" were common utterances of this large
warrior.
Combat
Sir Adilbrand Noblesword
charges into battle on an Indorian black warhorse in black armor. He does
not use a lance. He prefers up close combat, and usually uses his battle
axe or his longsword. Although he leads an army, he believes in individual
initiative and individual prowess in battle. He is a fearsome foe (+50 to
Intimidation!), decked out in black plate armor decorated with the scalps of his
enemies.
Chosen Weapon Bonus (Ex): The Knights
of the Three Hundred train to fight with ruthless efficiency with their
specialized weapon(s). With every
action, Adilbrand may add this bonus either to attack rolls or to damage rolls,
but not both. You must declare
where the bonus applies at the start of your action.
This bonus only applies to weapons that are specialized.
Scalp
Enemy (Su): The ultimate in dishonor in Indor is to be scalped.
If the foe is left alive, he is personally dishonored. If the scalp comes from a fallen foe, then his family or lord
is dishonored. Often a Adilbrand
will choose to insult their enemy instead of killing him.
For every humanoid scalp collected by Adilbrand and worn (on their person
or on their horse), the Knight gains a +1 morale bonus to Intimidate rolls. Every three scalps collected gives the Knight a +1 morale
bonus to Armor Class, because he believes he is more powerful. Scalping is done
as a Coup de Grace action, except the hit is not guaranteed.
If the strike does hit, it is critical, and the foe is scalped and all
coup de grace rules apply, including the chance of death.
Fearlessness
(Ex): The Knight of the Three
Hundred is trained to show no fear, even in the most terrifying of
circumstances. The Knight gains a
+4 morale bonus to all saving throws versus fear effects, and even if failing a
saving throw, the effects are reduced by one category.
Know
Knight (Ex): The Knight of the Three Hundred has a very distinctive look
that can be easily assumed by others. Adilbrand
can make a Sense Motive check (vs the disguise or bluff check of the foe) to
know if a Knight is a member of the order or not.
This works even if the person being checked is in armor or not.
Anyone caught impersonating a Knight of the Three Hundred is attacked
immediately.
Parry
Ranged Attack (Ex): The Knight
of the Three Hundred does not, in general, appreciate archery much.
Once per round when Adilbrand would normally be hit with a ranged weapon,
he may make a Reflex saving throw against a DC of 20 (if the ranged weapon has a
magical bonus to attack, the DC increases by that amount). If he succeeds, he deflects the weapon with his shield.
He must be aware of the attack and not flat-footed.
Attempting to deflect a ranged weapon is a free action.
Exceptional ranged weapons cannot be deflected.
Adilbrand must carry a shield to use this ability.
Stand
Ground (Ex): Adilbrand is
steadfast and knows how to stand your ground in battle.
He gains a +4 bonus to his d20 roll to resist bull rushes and trip
attempts.
Battle
Cry (Ex): When Adilbrand's shout rings across the battlefield, it lifts the
spirits of his allies. This ability
functions as the bard's inspire courage ability, found on page 28 of the Player's
Handbook. This bonus lasts for
five rounds, and he can shout a battle cry ten times per day.
No
Mercy (Ex): The Knight of the Three Hundred gains the ability to make extra
attacks of opportunity. The Knight
may make a number of extra attacks of opportunity against opponents equal to the
number of the bonus, and use the Knight's full attack bonus.
Killer
Charge (Ex): The Knight of Three Hundred, whether mounted or not, tends to
prefer to charge into battle. When
using the charge action, you deal triple damage with a melee weapon, up the
number of times per day indicated.
Rally
Troops (Ex): Your presence is enough to grant any allies within 30 feet a
second saving throw against fear and charm effects that they have
already succumbed to. Even if they
fail the second saving throw, any fear effects are reduced by one
category.
Supreme
Cleave (Ex): The Knight of the Three Hundred gains the ability to take a 5
foot step before making a Cleave or Great Cleave attack.
Battle
Aura (Su): The mere sight of Adilbrand in his black armor and heraldic
display is enough to turn the tide of battle.
Allies within 30 feet of Adilbrand gain the effects of both Battle Cry
and Rally Troops (above) as long as he remained standing and fighting.
If he falls, all allies within range suffer a –1 morale penalty to
attacks and damage in addition to losing the benefits described above.
Die for your Cause (Ex): Adilbrand's presence inspires his allies and troops to make the ultimate sacrifice for his cause. Any allies within 30 feet of him can continue to fight while disabled or dying without penalty. They continue until they reach –10 hit points.
