Gunnthryd was one of the most loyal of the Guardians of the Silver Tree, and was always willing to risk his life to go on one of Sir Grimhelm's quests, and to get Sir Grimhelm out of jams.  He wore +4 blue chainmail and a masterwork metal shield with a Silver Tree as its device.  He had the compassion to pursue good, the will to uphold law, and the power to defeat evil.  He had the power to protect, to heal, and to smite.  When things seemed to be bleak for the Guardians, Gunnthryd was the final hope that could not be extinguished.

He was a member of the original Guardians of the Silver Tree, and was the Guardians' primary source of unwavering devotion to law and provided a sense of unending duty.  He was probably closest to Nepankhra out of all of the Guardians, and traveled with him to Khemt after Grimhelm left the world and helped Nepankhra bring about revolution in Khemt..

Gunnthryd, after Grimhelm left the world and the Empire collapsed, went through several periods of depression and despair.  He eventually departed for the east and battled for the causes of good in Azrael, Zakhara, and Khemt.  But no matter where he went, evil always seemed rampant.  Depression again struck the knight.  Could he not make an impact?  Did it not matter how hard he strove?  He trained in the east and eventually mastered the longsword, thinking that skill would help.  It did not.  He tried to battle the evils of Khemt, but Pharaoh Kherit managed to defeat him time after time.  The failures told on Sir Gunnthryd.  He eventually fell and became a dreaded Death Knight.  He is the only former Guardian of the Silver Tree who was not allowed to enter the Seven Heavens.

Combat

Gunnthryd fought with Volagar, a Holy Avenger (detailed below).  He was particularly skilled at disarming opponents and catching their weapons.

Volagar: +5 Holy Avenger.  This is the only known human-made Holy Avenger still in existence on Inzeladun.  The sword was Lawful Good, had a 17 Intelligence, a 16 Wisdom, and a 15 Charisma.  It was capable of speech and telepathy, and spoke Indorian and Draconic.  It could detect traps, detect evil, Heal 1/day, shoot a Lightning Bolt (8d6 damage, 200 feet range, DC 13), and had all other properties of a Holy Avenger.  It had 28 Ego points.

Magic Items

+3 Lance

Helm of telepathy
Amulet of protection (24 magic missiles absorbed)
Gem of Aid (will notify Ahgy of need for assistance)
