View Full Version : Quake Your Booty [Keia Judging]
This is the thread for the pending mission being run by
Bront. The thread title will change once the mission begins.
In addition
to any normal IC post you may make I request that your first post have a link
to your character sheet
(Yeah, I know not that hard to find, but good habit to get into) in it, any
disadvantages or complications you may have, and any other notes you feel I
should be aware of.
I expect 4-6 heroes, and hope that they'll be able to
post at least twice a week, but more is always better.
When posting,
please color your text
with a different color than everyone else, and feel free to use line/paragraph
breaks to break up chunks of your documents.
Also,
familiarize yourself with the usage of SBLOCK and SPOILER. I use SBLOCKs more
often, particularly to hide OOC comments or for items for specific people
only.
The Briefing will begin when enough people have filed into the
room.
Currently in the adventure:
CPU
Kid
Dinosaur
Ice
Turret
Hummingbird
Highbrow
The Briefing Room has a long table with chairs of various
sizes in it, as well as several monitors lined accross the wall. A note scrolls
across the screens that Ms. Penny will be with you shortly to commence the
briefing.

CPU enter teh room and look around. "Nobody!" He sits down
and wait for the other to come.

Chip pokes his head into the room, a little uncertain as to
what to expect. Seeing it mostly empty, he enters and takes a seat across the
table from CPU. He sets his half-consumed Pepsi and a bag of Cheetos on the
table in front of him.
"Do you think food is allowed in here?" he says.
"I didn't see any signs by the door."

Complications
- age.
OOC: I haven't abandoned you guys, there's a new character
down the pipeline, and there are 2 others approved who aren't around. Plus Keia
might get his up soon. It's likely this adventure won't start till after the new
year, but you both are in :)

"There is that no smoking policy, I havn't heard about no
food policy." replies CPU. While waiting, CPU hack one of the monitor and starts
to navigate on the net to takes news about the eathquake.

The door to the briefing room opens again, and a pretty girl
who looks rather out of place walks in. She has purple and black hair, violet
eyes(which knowing supers might or might not be real), leather pants that look
painted on, and a black mid-drift with rock goddess in red letters across the
chest. "So this is the place is it?" she asks chip, droping into a chair with
her legs hanging over one of the arms.

*Bront you
said I was approved as far as you were concerned, and your the one running the
game...
OOC: Yup, you're good, haven't been able to post it yet.
Technicaly you needed to enter through the ready lounge, but not a big deal,
since no one is there.

12-20-05, 12:06 AM
Cedric, while scanning the net for more information, doesn't
turn the head. "All depend if you are here for the briefing or the rock show. I
think the show is in the stadium two block from here..."
Shalimar
12-20-05, 05:51 AM
"Wow that was like really brainy, seeing someone and just
assuming you know like anything about them, thats just like MENSA level dumb.
Hopefully your brain just
takes awhile to get into gear or something, otherwise this mission is soo not
looking good." the girl retorts, rolling her eyes to chip with a
sigh.
Velmont
12-20-05, 01:47 PM
CPU turns and look at the newcomers. "I don't assume to know
anything about you, but with your style, you would fit
pretty well in the crowd of a rock show. And it is one thing to be kidding (and
it happen to everyone to throw bad jokes), it is another throw
insult."
Rybaer
12-20-05, 02:19 PM
Chip watches the two banter back and forth while making sure
his mouth remains too full of Cheetos to say anything.
So which one of
them is doing the insults and who's doing the bad joking? he thinks to himself.
I sure hope there's an adult going on this mission...

"Then a tip to the master comedian, know your audience." Cherry says
with a dismissive shrug. "I'll assume your power isn't being
annoying, so what is it? Knowing it might come up at some point while we are out
there doing our thing."
Velmont
12-20-05, 07:20 PM
"I can control the electricity and the technology." says
Cedric. He waves at the screens and all the screens show the different camera of
the buidling. "And I know my way with computers, devices and bombs."

Tim makes his way into the room in a barely noticed fashion.
Well, unobtrusive when compared with Cherry. He simply rolls up to a spot that
allows his chair.
He gives a little bow to Cherry.
"Hello, ma'am.
My name is Tim. Sorry, but I didn't catch your name when you came
through the ready lounge."
OOC:How do you replace link with text? The
little chain button didn't work for

Chip finishes off his bag of Cheetos, wads it up, and tries
to shoot a basket in the waste recepticle. He misses, badly, and drags himself
out of the chair to go put it away.
"So, what kind of powers do you all
have?" He specifically looks toward Cherry and Tim, already knowing what CPU can
do. "I can turn into dinosaurs."
Shalimar
12-29-05, 01:20 AM
Cherry looks from the kid, to the mental giant, to the guy
in the wheel chair, and rolls her eyes skyward. "what are we, the villiage
people?" she murmurs to herself before responding to the questions, "Cherry, my
name is Cherry. I do the whole Ice thing, freezing people in ice, Ice slides,
all that stuff."
Gideon
12-30-05, 02:30 AM
Tim smiles at Chip's excitement and its stark contrast to
the faux cool act of Cherry.
Cherry looks from the kid, to the mental
giant, to the guy in the wheel chair, and rolls her eyes skyward. "what are we,
the villiage people?"
"And what do the village people have to do with
anything?" Tim says a calm smile sitting disarmingly on his
features.
Shalimar
12-30-05, 04:16 AM
Cherry just sighs in reply to Tim's question, she hadn't
really ment for it to be overheard, muttering being a habit, but it wasn't like
it mattered anyway. "Whatever." she mutters, twirling lazily in the chair. The
dyed rocker starts humming a tune that appears to be an original, at least as
far as anyone can tell.

12-30-05, 12:43 PM
"Hummingbird," announces the cool, disembodied feminine
voice of the computer. All eyes turn to the door, expecting to watch the
newcomer enter as the doors begin their interminable slide open. Moments pass.
Nobody enters. With varied reactions of puzzlement, disappointment, or
indifference, the assemble heroes turn back to their conversations.
So
how long are we going to have to sit around here waiting? There are people out
there who need to be helped NOW. I HATE beaur...beura...bureo...red
tape.
Hummingbird, dressed in an irridescent spandex biking suit, sits
(for a brief moment) in the chair farthest from the door. He is a young man of
arabic descent, olive skin and black hair and eyes, a stylish pointed goatee
extending four inches from his chin.
As the others watch, he zips through
the table and begins hovering in front of all of the monitors in turn, moving in
a colorful blur from one to the other, none of them commanding his attention for
very long.
"Sorry I'm late, by the way...there was no one in that ready
room except that asian girl, and she must have been in some sort of trance,
because she didn't say anything to me."
Rybaer
12-30-05, 02:40 PM
"Cherry, my name is Cherry. I do the whole Ice thing,
freezing people in ice, Ice slides, all that stuff."
"Cool," Chip says.
"Get it? Cool?" He chuckles to himself for a moment before realizing that his
own attempt at a joke was pretty lame.
He concentrates on finishing his
Pepsi until interrupted by the arrival of Hummingbird. Chip watches in amazement
as the newcomer flies through the table. Something about the man's appearance
reminds him of a logo he once saw at the grocery. What was it? Deviled Ham? Chip
decides not to voice this observation aloud.
"Hi there," he says to the
back of Hummingbird's head. "I'm Chip, or Kid Dinosaur. I can turn into
dinosaurs."

"Hi there," he says to the back of Hummingbird's head. "I'm
Chip, or Kid Dinosaur. I can turn into dinosaurs."[/QUOTE]
Hummingbird
rotates in spot, appearing for a moment to have two faces. He crosses in the
blink of an eye to hover in front of Chip, a trail of his afterimages fading in
the eyes of those watching him.
"Really? That's got to be really useful.
Anything small? There may be people who need rescuing in tight areas in that
earthquake. I'll bet you could find them easily," he says to the young boy. He
darts back a few paces and seems to vibrate. "I'm a teleporter. Well, maybe. I
don't know. They know I can disappear and reappear, and I can do it really
fast...but so far, I've only been able to move about half-an-inch at a time. It
lets me do some pretty neat stuff, like this."
Hummingbird passes through
the table again, then stops just outside the edge of it, grabs it, and flies
with it to the ceiling.
"The best thing is, I can make it LOOK like I'm
really strong." He smiles and sets the table back down. "So, are we going to do
this? Temper fu...Tepid funn...Time flies. Oh, I'm Ali, by the way, Ali Kassem.
But you can call me Alex."
Velmont
12-31-05, 02:27 PM
"Hi" says Cedric to the two last newcomers. "My name Cedric,
but you can call me CPU, it's my old military codename." Cedric continue to scan
the internet on the TV screen he hacked, trying to find more information on the
earthquake. "Informations are coming one drop at a time... I can't hardly find
anything else than what CNN told."
Rybaer
01-01-06, 04:28 PM
"Really? That's got to be really useful. Anything small?
There may be people who need rescuing in tight areas in that earthquake. I'll
bet you could find them easily," he says to the young boy.
"Oh, sure,"
Chip says. "Most people don't know this, but most dinosaurs weren't any bigger
than your average dog.
But most of those ones were pretty boring."
Chip stands up and, in a
flash of white light, transforms into a raptor. It's not unlike those from
Jurassic Park fame, only smaller. "Pretty cool, huh?" he says in his own
adolescent voice, which is disturbingly out of place coming from the fang-filled
maw of the small dinosaur.
In rapid-fire succession, Kid Dinosaur flashes
through a number of different shapes including a number of tiny lizards, a giant
dragonfly, and ending with a saber-toothed cat which is about the size of an
adult lion.
"As long as it's pre-historic, I can do it," he says with
giddy pride. He changes back to his normal human form and drops into his chair.
His look around the room suggests that he's waiting for the others to be awed
and impressed.
OOC: HighBrow should be joining us shortly, and we'll start
:) Thanks for being patient.

"Wow, that shapeshifting could be a lot of fun, but your a little young to know
what I'm talking about." Cherry tells Chip, smirking. She looks arund the room,
wondering exactly how many people were on the Resolutes, and wondering if she
was the only female, and more to the point how many more people were coming
before they got started.
"Does anyone even know how much longer til we
get started? The earthquake isn't much likely to undo itself."

Highbrow: uninjured, 6 HP
Highbrow enters Briefing
Room B and gives the occupants an almost dismissive nod.
He takes a seat at
the end of the table. "I am aware there is protocol to refer to each-other by
Codename. While I find the habit somewhat vexatious, you may address me
colloquially as Highbrow. I am familiar with each of your files so you may eschew
the introductions as I find such pleasantries tedious." He turns to Cedric
"There will be some superfluousness with our abilities CPU, but I am sure your Electrokinesis should
still prove to be servicable."

"Yeah, I thought about it. I suppose I won't be sent in
sector where there is a full power shut down. But there might be some sector
where electrical cable have been cut and still got some power in it. Pretty
dangerous for the common person, but I can handle that easily. I also thought I
could just build a simple device that would allow us to detect anyone still
alive in a small radius. It might help us to find people who are stuck under
fallen buildings."
Shalimar
01-03-06, 03:12 PM
Cherry's purple eye brow rises at Highbrow's less then
tactful entrance... it was interesting to say the least, "If he's highbrow then
I'm the bloody Queen of Sheba." Cherry mutters, sounding highly amused. She
shakes her head, wondering if the guy was going out of his way to sound creepy,
she definitely was non-plussed with having a file and Highbrow's feeling of
entitlement to reading it. "Whatever, lets just get going."
Ms. Penny enters the briefing room bearing a tablet and pen
exactly 1 hour after the call came out for heroes, as promised.
"Good
morning Ladies and Gentilemen, I am Ms. Penny." She says, and taps a few things
on her notepad. Various screens come up, detailing potential epicenters, areas
effected by the earthquake, estimated damage figures, and a picture and profile
of one General Greenberg. "As you are no doubt aware, there was an earthquake
less than two hours ago in Los Angeles of an incredable magnitude. While the
task force has not been directly contacted, we are going to send you out as
assistance in our first public mission to help assist in any way needed. This
will be a public relations mission, so we need you to do your best to represent the
Resolutes well. You will leave shortly, and contact General Greenberg as to what
assistance can be provided."
"However, that is not the entire extent of
your mission. Given the
increased activities of supers out there, you are to investigate the earthquake
itself if you can, as well as any other strange incidents in the area. While we
are unaware of anyone who could cause a disaster of this magnitude, it is quite
likely that there could be supers taking advantage of the situation for their
own personal gain. Our first mission is to the people of Los Angeles, but noting
super activity could prove to be just as vital."
She pauses and looks
around "Any question?"
Velmont
01-03-06, 07:36 PM
Cedric listen. Once Ms Penny finish her briefing, Cedric
starts to asks his questions. "What will be the logistic? I suppose we will be
sent on one fo those jets in the hangar, but once there, we will stay together
or we will split into smaller group? Who will be in charge of the operations? In
which area we will be drop? I suppose we will be feed with any update of the
situation by our commlink. How frenquent we will be updated and at which
frequence we have to report to you? Will it be able to have the support of some
organization or will we be on our own and we will have to find support on the
site?"
OOC: Which skill would be the best to evaluate the structure of a
building, to know what are the risk of the remains falling down?
Shalimar
01-03-06, 08:52 PM
"So I guess shopping spree is out of the question, huh?"
Cherry jokes, "I'd assume local Emergency Services as well as all of the EMS
from the State and probably the surrounding states are going to be there doing
there, it sort of begs the question what exactly we are suppoused to do, is this
going to be a photo shoot, or are we actually going to be getting in the way of
the proffesionals by trying to help?" she asks dryly.
Rybaer
01-03-06, 11:58 PM
"Hmmm...I guess that means I don't get to eat anyone," Chip
says. "I'm sure I can help with moving rubble, though. And a few of my forms
have an incredible sense of smell."
Gideon
01-04-06, 12:05 AM
Highbrow's entrance was interesting yet nothing past the
scope of the other folks in the room. The apparent lack of any kind of formal
training in dicipline and as an extension combat had set his teeth on edge.
Cedric had claimed military operations as part of his past but hadn't showed
anything like a soldier's demeanor.
That's why it came as a shock when
CPU had all of the correct questions. Chip's comment caught his
attention.
"We'll have to be careful about moving rubble, Chip. The
buildings won't be in the best shape."
cuervo96
01-04-06, 12:21 AM
"Hmmm...I guess that means I don't get to eat anyone," Chip
says. "I'm sure I can help with moving rubble, though. And a few of my forms
have an incredible sense of smell."
"You and I will probably be best for
locating and moving people, Chip," says Hummingbird. "I can move through the
rocks to find people and if the rocks aren't too big, I can move them. Of
course, I'm no engineer, so I guess that's where Highbrow and the professionals
come in. It will be like the flintstones, I think."
Hummingbird chuckes
at his mental picture of Highbrow sitting atop Kid Dinosaur like the cartoons he
watched as a very young child. He smiles to himself, oblivious of the stares
he's drawing for his inapproprite laughter at this not-at-all funny
moment.
He turns and grins at Ice. "We're definitely NOT going to be
window dressing today." His attention wanders from Ice, talking, but not to
anyone in particular, at least not that they can tell. "So, do we really get a
jet? How fast does it go? Who gets to drive? I wonder if I'm
faster...?"
"Well, your skills will be able to
offer assistance that was not possable before. Idealy, you'll be togeather as a
team, but you can split up as needed. You can report in if you find anything
significant, but otherwise your job is to assist untill
the extent of your
special abilities will not be of any additional assistance than conventional
means. As for working with organizations, we will leave the logistics of that to
General Greenwall, who will be coordinating all the effors. As for who's in
charge, well, we can leave that up to you to figure out amonst
yourselves."
Ms. Penny looks at Cherry "This is definately not a photo
shoot, though the public relations aspect of this is not to be overlooked. You
are indeed needed to help in any way your assistance can be used.
Plus, you are all uniquely prepared if there is any super activity in the area
to investigate it."
"A Viginant should be done being preped for you once
we are done here, and one of the pilots will bring you promptly to where the
General is setting up his emergancy responce headquarters. You should be there
in a matter of hours."
"Any more questions?"
OOC: Craft:
Structure, Knowledge: Archatecture or Physical Science, Notice, Investigate all
of which should help in determining building structure stability. Some will work
better than others, but I'm flexable.
Velmont
01-04-06, 01:28 PM
Cedric nods at Turret as he answer Chip "For the building,
I've worked a few year in buidling demolition. My demolition expertise from my
military service have been applied to urban renewal. I must tell I was
supervised by a civil engineer but I still know a few things."
As Ms
Penny finish, CPU hack a few screen on the wall and display the files of each
person in the room. "I've been looking at everyone skills. I would suggest to
let Cherry do the PR. She has some experience in it. For taking the lead, I
don't see anything in these files that show one is over the other in this
matter. Most likely, someone will show the skill when it will be needed, but I
would like to have someone named before we drop."
"I would like to have a
few electrical component on the jet. If you can just ship a small palm with some
thermal and medical sensors and also a X-Ray projector and captor. You must have
some of those part in your inventory to repair the
different device of the infirmary. I would like to build a simple gadget to help
us to find people in the rumble. Turret, Highbrow, I might need your support to finish it in
time, if you don't mind."
OOC: I don't have my book underhand, but does
the Super-Sense Detect allow to detect items even throught matter? Depending on
the time we have, I would like to have: Detect(Living Creature), Accurate(To
know the exact position), Extended(To have a better range), Acute(To be able to
identify what is the living creature), X-Ray Vision(To have a clear view of the
victim). That would make 8pp device if I am right, which might be a bit too much
for the trip. Could I applied the duration flaw to lower the pp cost? I would
lower it to Concentration, so I might have a chance to finish it before landing.
Maybe, if I can expect the device to be good enough for all the expected
duration of the mission, I might spend a HP to have it build faster. Can Turret
and Highbrow assit on the rolls needed to create the device?
hero4hire
01-04-06, 11:20 PM
Highbrow; uninjured, 6hp
Highbrow ignored the others
reactions to his entrance. He was accostomed to a certain amount of disregard of
his vast genius. He listened almost absently to the briefing given by Ms. Penny.
He remained silent until CPU addressed him directly. "A broadband bioscanner
should be fairly simple to construct. But filtering the reciever to discern only
human bio-signs may be problematic. I do recall some published papers on the
subject. I will also download schematics of floorplans of the buildings in the
area which will assist in our search and rescue attempts also schematics of the
sewer and electrical systems should be prudent." OOC: Datalink to download said
schematics and commit them to memory via Eidetic Memory.
Velmont
01-05-06, 12:09 AM
"I didn't thought to have a human signature detector, but
more broader detector. Biothermal signature is specific enough to be detected if
you have a good enough CPU doing the distinction between two thermal signature.
There is an open source code on the web that is used by some robotician who
doing some competitions. A tweak or two to the code and I'll be able to use it
for the detector, but I'll need hands to build it while I tweak the
code"
OOC: Ok, I've read it again, and it took a lot much more time than
I though (I was thinking a rough 1 hour per point, not 5), so wathever I choose,
it will take too much time. I'll spend a HP on the jet to build it. Here the
build I want:
Detect(Life)[Free Action, Ranged] 3pp
Accurate(Detect)
2pp
Extended(Detect) 1pp
Radius(Detect) 1pp
Total: 7pp
DC: 10 +
7(cost) + 5(hurry) = 22 (hmmm.... with only +8, it won't be an easy roll, hope I
can have those two assist, raising my chance over 50%, too bad I have only 1
HP.)
Shalimar
01-05-06, 12:21 AM
OOC:Erm, what exactly is in these files that you guys are
reffering to? I mean thats OOC stuff, I can see a little information about
powers, and name, but with some things, they wouldn't really be talked about IC.
I mean Officially Cherry is a 17 year old that has recently graduated from High
School, and is enrolled part time at a College of Music. She is pretty
personable (Diplomacy/Bluff +12), when she wants to be, and rather
attractive(feat), but neither of those things are likely to be listed in an
official file somewhere (not unless a law suit is wanted, you just don't put
into a woman's file whether or not she is attractive, and especially not if she
is not 18). So Bront, just how much of our characters stats are listed in these
files, I mean it sort of breaks suspension of disbelief if people whip out their
character sheets and compare skill ranks in character.
Its possible that
Cherry might be listed as a lead singer/guitarist for a band thats good enough
to make a living on tour, but music being what it is, its doubtful that anyone
not in the local music scene would know who they were, or know that she is even
in a band. This isn't to say she would refuse to do PR or that she thinks she
isn't the best person for it, just wondering whether anyone else would actually
know it.

"If you rig a set of IR binoculors with a small computer
like the inside of a cell phone, you can set the comp to look for appropriate
ranges of temperature. You'd need to increase the power which will blow the
processor pretty quickly. But doable. The timing'll be tight."
Tim

sounds very compotant.

"Isn't this stuff we can deal with during the hours on the
plane? People are dying and you're all talking geek speak. We've got to get out
there NOW."
Hummingbird is darting around the room, unable to stand still
and talk about the situation.
"If this is going to take a while, fine.
I'll head out and you can catch up with me and anyone I can carry who wants to
get this show on the road. If not, and we're done talking, then let's

"You always this quick Ali?" Cherry asks suggestively, "I
doubt you could get there before a jet could, and even if you did, would you
know where you are needed most? Or what is that needs to be done the fastest?
Don't be in such a rush, not that listening to nerds talk is a turn on or
anything, but if spending 5 minutes figuring things out now saves an hour or two
down the line, its worth it. Besides, if they are prepping the Valiant now, then
rushing here just to wait there would be stupid, right?"
"Quickshot does
have a point though," Cherry says, turning to the trio of 'nerds'. "Get what you
need to build your little
toy, but don't take your
time doing it." she says, sliding her communicator into her ear. "If the three
of you head out now, you can meet us in the hangarwith your toys, and we'll pass on
any other information we get." the teenager says, sounding surprisingly level
headed and authoritative inspite of her appearance (Diplomacy +12).
"You can see what gear will be available on site, but we do
not have any additional equipment here." Ms Penny says.
HighBrow is able
to get some schematics, but it seems many are unavailable due to the servers
being down.
OOC: Publicly accessable files would simply have a brief
outlet on known abilities, as well as other easily accessable background info.
However, known abilities would include skills. Anything beyond that would not be
in any publicly accessable file.
Velmont
01-05-06, 01:23 PM
Cedric nods at Cherry. He stands up. "Meet you at the
hangar. Highbrow, Turret?" He leaves the room. (OOC: Supposing Highbrow and
Turret follow) "Ok, I'll go the medical quater and find all the sensors I'll
need." He takes a paper and write down a few ftp website with filenames. "I'll
need those files, and take any other files you judge usefull and put them on any
hard medium you found. HD, CD, DVD... I don't care, I think the jet have
everything to read them. You can do it Highbrow? I'll need a palm with a high
quality screen, and anything to upgrade his performance. Can you find that
Turret? Nice, let's meet at the hangar."
OOC: OK, I might have gone a bit
too far. I saw someone refering to those file before and conclude I could access
to it too. I was not expecting to have complete description of the characters,
but at least the big line. Between the ex-military demolition specialist he is,
a con artist, an underground rock star, a highschool kid, a techno ex-ranger and
a techno prodigy, I would put the rock star in first, and the con artist in

However, known abilities would include skills. Anything beyond that would not be

"I'm
only this fast when it helps to be," Ali flirts back, smiling at her boldness
even as he resents her fairly successful attempt to manipulate him. "When you
live your life at 500
mph, you tend to grow a bit impatient at delays. Besides, you should listen more
carefully: I said you all could pick me up on the way."
Hummingbird
smiles to take away some of the snideness from his comments. He takes a deep
breath and rises a few inches above the ground, beginning to blur around the
edges, almost as if he's vibrating...which, in a sense, he is.
"If we're
going to meet these guys in the hanger, then I'll meet you there. You can catch
me up on whatever I need to know in the Valiant. I know I'm not going to be the
brains of this operation, and I'm feeling a bit cramped in here. I've got to
stretch my wings, so to speak. If you need me, well, I'm sure Highbrow can get
ahold of me."
Hummingbird blurs over to a floor-plan map, the type that
seems to be ubiquitous in government buildings. Once he has his bearings and
knows where the hanger is in relationship to where he is now, he tosses one last
smile and a wink at Ice before rocketing through the ceiling and out of the
building.
Seconds later, his head reappears, upside down through the
ceiling.
"Oh, and I caught that 'Quickshot' comment, too...don't get used
to it." He grins and vanishes again.

Chip gets the sense that there isn't much left to be said in
the meeting. All the talk of electronic equipment, while fascinating, goes well
over his head.
"I guess I'll just go pack and head to the hanger," he
says.
Chip swings by his personal quarters, where he stuffs a single
change of clothes in his backpack. He then makes a stop in the Ready Lounge to
get the rest of the essentials - Cheetoes, teriyaki beef jerky, Butterfinger
bars, and half a dozen bottles of Pepsi. He looks warily at a bowl of fruit
sitting in the kitchen area, twitches once, and reluctantly packs an
apple.
He then goes off in search of the hanger, or someone who looks
like they're headed that way.
The hanger located underground and is currently occupied by
one Vigilant that is nearly complete with all the preperations for take off. A
few of the ground crew scramble around attending to the final details. The roof
looks like it will roll or fold away to allow the plane to take off and likely
land. In fact, the entire setup is similar to a large aircraft carrier, complete
with a loading ramp for the Vigilant to bring it into place. Knowing the number
of Vigilants the task force has access to, this is likely just one of several
hangers.
A man in a flight suit is going over a checklist with one of the
grounds crew, and looks fairly satisfied.

hard medium you found. HD, CD, DVD... I don't care, I think the jet have
everything to read them. You can do it Highbrow? I'll need a palm with a high
quality screen, and anything to upgrade his performance. Can you find that
Turret? Nice, let's meet at the hangar."
Highbrow looks somewhat
insulted. "An 8 year old could do that. I have deduced the specifications that
you need from what you have written down and am already building applicable
programs that you will find superior to those you specified."

"Unless you have anything else for us Ms. Penny, I think
we'll head out now." Cherry tells the woman, getting up. The teen waits long
enough for any response, and then heads out to the hanger. She sighed, and
rolled her eyes as she moved along the corridor, wondering why it was that
people were listening to her when obviously she wasn't the smartest, was the
youngest, excluding the tween, and she was wearing some rather revealing
clothes, and most likely inappropiate clothes. "Gotta be the clothes." she
mutters shaking her head amusedly.
Cherry heads down to the hanger, and
towards the pilot, "I'll let yo know when everyones aboard, and then you can
take off or whatever. Do you know about how long the flight will be so that I
can get into contact with the other end and let the General know when to expect
us?" she asks him.
OOC:Here is a pic of Cherry if anyone is curious. Not

"The General is already aware you will be on your way shortly, and we
should be there in less than 3 hours from takeoff." The pilot responds, checking

scurries off. The pilot turns and is a bit guffawed by what he sees. "Um, are

As Chip stows his pack, he notices a deep purple bag already

Hummingbird and through the front wind-screen, he sees the tell-tale solid line
of afterimages left by Hummingbird's passage as he rockets around the hanger,
investigating everything he sees, whether he knows what it's for or

Every few moments, Hummingbird streaks through the interior of the

Cherry
just looks at the pilot for a moment, and then drops her head and shakes it, "I
hate you, I really do." she tells him without any real feeling behind, sounding
resigned to changing. "I'll be back in a few," she mutters exiting the hanger.
Cherry heads to her car, a nice fire engine red convertible that looks fast even
when its just sitting there. It had been a birthday present from her parents,
and no one in their right mind would refuse this kind of present. In the trunk
she pulled out a box that she had intended to return, it was a sweater from her
mom, but not as bad as most of the clothes her mom would pick out. It was a
sleeveless teal/sea mist/ocean blue turtle-neck-thing.
Cherry changed her
top in the ladies' room on the way back to the hangar, she was still wearing the
leather pants, and knee-high boots, but with the addition of the sweater top she
looked like she was ready to go clubbing in some of the more exclusive clubs,
instead of a rock concert. "Its the best your going to get," she
tells the pilot sounding slightly sullen about it.
"It's your image," he chuckles. "I

He does his own last minute inspection. "Looks like
we're all set, ready to get going?" He asks the team.
The inside of the
jet is far from luxurious, but has several bucket seats behind the 2 for the
pilot and co-pilot that are well padded and have some room. They look like they
have a release that will allow them to swivel if needed. There are some larger
bench seets a bit further back, and a consol complete with a comunications
station and computer access. The door to a cargo area is currently open, where
Turret's suit is being secured allong with some other gear through the rear
loading hatch.

quite felt like a home. After I turned into a dinosaur and terrorized my school,
entirely by accident, no foster family was willing to take me in...and no school
district would take the risk, either.
"So, things worked out that the

eightteen and have to take care of my education. A lot of organizations and
lawyers tried to keep me out of here for being too young. I threatened to go

them into seeing things my way. It's not like anyone could stop a determined

"Well, I'm sorry about being
stuck in foster care, but at least you get to be the youngest part of the
Resolutes, thats not something that other kids in foster care get to say." she
tells him gently, wondering what would happen if he couldn't hack it as a
Resolute, or even the legal ramifications. I'll need to talk to dad about this,
it'd suck big time if some lawyer got him booted off without somewhere else to
go. I also need to find out about legal responsibilities, I mean, who is in
charge of him normally, who is in charge on missions, what can we even legally
allow him to do without breaking the law, God, I better talk to someone

"Hey kiddo, I'll be right back, there is something I need to check

hearing range, before turning on her commlink and Calling Ms. Penny. "Ms. Penny,

Now that it appears they are actually doing something, he seems far

The cards seem to come alive in his hands, shifting and turning, face cards

"The neural link works on your brain's alpha wave
emissions and soes not permit any access to one's thoughts, but allows free
communication with all in the link. I do not suggest we use it as our primary
communication, but only as needed. It would be prudent to submit to it as a
backup means of communication, and it also has the added benefit of being usable
over any distance, no matter the environment, or your current physical
structure. Refusing such a link would not only be ignorant, but possibly
dangerous to our mission." Highbrow says, eyes boring into Ice.

"If you couldn't do it, or weren't here, then it wouldn't be
dangerous for the mission to not have it. We already have the commlinks, that is
sufficient for me. I am not letting you in my head." she says, slowly and
clearly, so that it would not be misinterpreted. "Lets get this straight right
now Unibrow, I don't know you at all, and first impressions are a bitch to get
over. I told you I am not comfortable with you playing around in my head to
create a link, and then you called me ignorant because I am not comfortable with
that, when we already have a means of communication that we are suppoused to use
that will do the same thing. People are all going to draw the line at different
things, powers are so new that people aren't used to them, and thought is one of
the few things that people have that cannot be controlled or monitored or
censored. People's thoughts are the most private thing that people have, so you
had better learn to respect their wishes when it comes to their thoughts.
Regardless of whether or not you can read thoughts, trying to force someone into
a mental link is akin to rape, at least in my mind. When someone says no, it
means no. If you keep trying to pressure people into it, then I'll file a
complaint with the UN, and anyone else that has laws against abuse of powers. If
someone says yes, then fine, otherwise drop it." Cherry says in no uncertain
terms, starting to look angry.
OOC: Sorry to cause a stir, but I, and
Cherry as well (probably more so) feel that thought is the most intimate and
private thing a person has, if you want this to be part of your tactless thing cool,
otherwise, yea, she is serious about filing a complaint if he keeps pushing it.
Though I don't know as there is really a law to cover such a thing, invasion of
privacy, but even that is lenient when viewing involuntary telepathy. Regardless
of the explination of how it works, she wouldn't feel comfortable with doing it,
especially under pressure from a guy she just met, the more he tries to
pressure, the more she will assume an ulterior motive.

brilliant."
"One day, as they began to perform their act under the big
top in the center ring, the ring master noticed a problem. The safety net was
broken. It looked solid, seemed solid to the audience and the performers, but
one entire end of the stakes had been nearly pulled out of the ground. We never
did find the reason. Our ring master, he got on the microphone and shouted for
the show to stop. The audience gasped and applauded, sure that this was part of
the act. He made frantic signs to the family above him to stop, but with the
noise from the crowd, they did not hear him. Stage hands came running, trying to
scream to the people above through walkie-talkies, but it was no use. At the end
of a particularly impressive move, their 8-year-old son did exactly as he was
supposed to do."
"He let go of his father's hands, spun and arced and
twisted through the air, landing artfully in the net 100 feet below
him."
"He died when his neck snapped against the ground through the
collapsing safety net."
"Why do I tell you this story? Because if this
man" -- Ali points to Highbrow -- "had been working with my friends, they would
not have lost their son. Yes, it was a tragic loss, an accident, nobody's fault.
But there is not a thing his father would not do to not have killed his
child."
Ali turns to Highbrow. "You say to us that this will only allow
you to hear those thoughts we wish you to hear? You swear this, knowing that if
it is not true, there will be consequences? If that is so, I will link with you.
I would not have any of my new friends...I would not have THIS boy" -- he looks
at Chip and smiles briefly -- "die if there is anything I can do to prevent
it."
He extends his hand to Highbrow.
"One other matter. I am only
25. I am not much older than you appear to be. But I have learned in that short
time what it is to trust my life and my safety to others with more experience
and wisdom than myself. I have no wish to be the leader of this team. But I
think, Ice, that you would do well to remember that this isn't drama club or
marching band. When we take the field, we do so at the risk of our lives and the
lives of others. To fight so among ourselves is suicide. Trust is
everything."
He shakes his head, almost as if clearing it and seems to
awaken as if from a trance. There is a noticable change to his demeanor and his
vocal patterns. He grins.
"Besides...if you pay attention, you might just
learn something...many people have misjudged both friends and foes alike, and
usually they come out the worse for wear. Just remember: nothing is quite so
obvious as the unexpected."
Ali Kassam turns back to Chip. "You put the
card back in the deck and counted again, right? 51 cards. No, you're not
imagining things and you didn't count wrong. Pilot? Would you please take the
seven of diamonds out of the left breast pocket of your flight suit? I believe
that Chip and I would like to play a game of "go fish" and we need a full

"Remember, Ice, and you, too, Highbrow -- because we're all super

"Super

no one here is an hero yet. It is not the intention that make someone an hero,

luck. And I'd hate to think one of you got hurt because you couldn't call me for

He looks around at everyone with a serious

"I will reiterate for the benefit of all. This is a neural link. Not
telepathy. No access to thoughts. Only communication is allowed. These facts,
any of you may verify with Command. I also simply stated the fact that it would
be prudent to allow the link. Any implication of coercion on my part is simply
false. I also simply expressed my opinion that refusing such a link would be
ignorant. I should note that any further misusage of my codename could be
construde as harrassment, creating a hostile work environment, and will be dealt
with thusly. With that said, my offer to establish a link with any of my

otherwise, yea, she is serious about filing a complaint if he keeps pushing it.

Cherry just laughs mirthlessly at Highbrow's pronouncements.
The fact that he would call himself such says pretty plainly that he isn't, and
speaking of a hostile work environment, well, he was the one who had created
such by trying to coerce her into it. Saying it was ignorant to refuse a mental
link was pretty clearly meant to convince her to take the link. That and it
created an environment where everyone was trying to convince her to accept it.
If she didn't accept his mucking about with his mental powers then she looked
childesh, that was a hostile working environment, one that was definitely a
lawsuit waiting to happen, especially if the plaintiff was a minor, not to
mention a female.
"Reiterate til your blue in the face, its
not happening. I don't trust you at all, even the tinyist little bit at this
point. You can tell command whatever you like about your powers, that doesn't
mean that you told them everything. Maybe you didn't cop to reading minds
because you were wary of lawsuits, or the mistrust and hate that the ability to
invade peoples minds would cause. Whatever else can be said about you, you are
definitely not stupid, so by telling them you can communicate mentally, still
allows you to use your
powers without having to cop to the other part. I don't know anything about you
other than you give off a really creepy vibe. You have given me no reason to
trust you and a few reasons not to." Cherry says, her eyes seeming to be made of
purple fire.
Cherry swivels her chair around to face its usual direction,
the commgear and computer. She calls up a word processing program and starts to
type something out.
Bront only
OOC: She is writing an official
complaint against Highbrow, claiming that he has created a hostile environment
within the team, by bringing up the subject of a mental link, and then pressing
it when she refused to take part in it because it made her uncomfortable in it
which she stated very clearly multiple times. He manipulated the situation by
bringing it up in such a way that the rest of the team began pressuring her to
submit to the link, making her even more uncomfortable with the team, and
destroying any trust she had in any of them. She will further go on to state
that she is a minor, and that it is very inappropriate for an adult to be
pressuring a minor to allow him to use his powers on her when there is already a
UN issued official alternative to it.
She'll email the complaint to
herself for the time being, she can always file it later, but she cannot unfile
it once its filed. She'll decide based on how the rest of the mission goes. This
should certainly qualify as an application of the Tactless
complication.

Turret had just waited as Cherry, Highbrow, and the others
had gotten into their spat.
Five hours in and the team is already

"Perhaps the crested hadrosaur, Paralophosaurus? It has been theorized that
since cavities in thier crests are connected to the airway and nostrils, the
cavities might have been lines with olfactory receptors that would have served
to increase the acuity of the sense of smell, assisting in avoiding predators.

Hummingbird starts awake with a muffled cry and drops
through his seat and halfway into the floor of the Valiant before he realizes
where he is and what is happening. He slides back up into his seat, looking
visably shaken by whatever was in his dream.
"I never thought I'd be
happy that we hadn't left yet. We are about ready, right?"
Ali is baffled
by his teammates seemingly infinite patience with the lengthy departure process.
He is determined, though, not to allow his short attention span to add to the
already tense atmosphere on the plane.
He reaches into his bag, pulls out
a half-dozen energy bars. Drifting across the aisle to hover just over Chip's
shoulder, he watches the boy play his video game, fascinated as a small child
might be. Growing up as he has, he has had very little experience with them.
Most of his time was spent in the practice of his craft and the day-to-day life
of the circus.
"I think we'll make a good duo in the field, Kid -- do you
care if I call you Kid? I don't want it to sound patronizing. I mean, you ARE
young, but you've got moe power than most everyone on the planet, especially
everyone in your grade."
He smiles at Chip and offers him a power bar. "You want? This is much better for
you than that crap you're eating...and it almost tastes like
food."
"Anyway, when we get there, you find them, and I'll bring 'em back
alive. Now, care to explain that thing to me? I've never really had much use for
them before."
Once everyone has settled down, and straped themselves in,
the pilot preps for launch. The roof opens up and the platform raises up to
allow a clean takeoff on one of the runways. Soon, with a smooth takeoff, the
plane is quickly on it's ways. In a somewhat sarcastic tone, the pilot says over
the intercom "We are now cruising at a speed of aproximately 550 miles per hour,
at an altitude of 12,000 feet. We should reach our destination in a little over
2 hours, and can do a flyby if you'd like. Until then, please enjoy the in
flight movie. There is no food service on this flight, so if you want something,
get up and get it yourself from the fridge in the back. I want to remind you
that his is a non-smoking flight, violators will be removed via the ejection
seat system. Thank you for flying Task Force Air."
With the press of a
button, screens come down in the passenger area with controls on each individual
seat. They are patched into television broadcasts about the of the earthquake,
as well as any other channel.
A little over 2 hours later, you are
approaching Los Angelos. "The captain has engaged the seatbelt sign, so please
return to your seats and
buckle up. Would you like a fly over to see the area?"

Cherry avoids talking to anyone for most of the trip, typing
something up at the communications console. The closer they seem to get, the
quieter and more withdrawn she seems to get, although at one point she did turn
and look at Highbrow for a moment before turning back to the console, entering a
few more key strokes and turning off whatever it was that she was working on.
From that point on she was immersing herself in the newsfeeds about the quake, looking for
information about what types of thngs she would find when she got there. God,
what the hell am I thinking, I shouldn't be here, I don't know anything about
being a super hero or emergency rescue or anything, she thought to
herself.
When the pilot announces that they will be there shortly, and
asks whether they want a fly over, she considers it for a moment. "Yea, give us
a fly over while we get in touch with the General to see where he wants us." she
tells the pilot calmly, at least externally calm. Ice activates the commstation
and does her best to get in contact with command, wanting to figure out where
they are most needed.
"I've already got a designated landing site, so that's not a
problem." The pilot responds. "He wants to talk to you first."

Chip gives the powerbar a dubious look. "I read an

determined that a Snickers bar or two slices of white bread give you better and
quicker energy than 95% of the power bars on the market today. And they're
cheaper."
He takes one and tries it anyway. "Could be worse, I suppose.
But did they have to put nuts in here? Quickest way to ruin any food

Chip goes on to show Hummingbird the intricacies of video game
stategy. And while he lets his teammate try out the PSP for a few minutes, Chip
deftly stashes the uneaten remains of the power bar under his seat.
When

disappointed that he can't see more damage. Smoke from a few fires and just a
few collapsed buildings. It'll probably look worse from the ground, he
figures.

As the everyone is seated again, the plane begins to slow
down a bit and flys low, making a long looping sweep of LA. Indeed, while the
entire city is not damaged in obvious ways, there are some buildings with dust
or smoke rising from them, people in the streets, cars pilled up, or others with
dust on them, fire and water spewing from several different locations, and
general chaos in the city. Indeed, there will be plenty to help
with.
Finaly, the pilot wheels around and heads back inland a bit before
the plane comes to a halt in mid air and decends onto one of several makeshift
Helepads. The pilot flips a few switches and the rear hatch begins to open while
he rises to open the side entrance.
A man in uniform is there to greet
the pilot with a salute. "I have orders to escort you all to General Greenberg
when you are ready Sir."

Cherry lifts a well manicured eyebrow at CPU, wondering why
he had looked to her before answering, she certainly didn't mind being
appreciated by guys, older and younger, but she doubted that was it. "Tim, how
long will it take for you to get 100% ready?* If its more then a few minutes,
then you might want to just catch the general's breifing over the comm network
while you suit up, so that we can all get moving faster. I think we can all
agree faster is better, at least in this case."
She unstraps herself, and
help Chip do the same if he needs it, before heading down the boarding ramp to
the escort. "We should all check our comms while we have the chance, don't want
them to breakdown later." she calls over her shoulder to the other resolutes
before taking Chip aside for a moment, "Look I didn't want to say anything in
front of everyone, but, while we are out there, you are our responsibility. You
need to follow the orders of all the adults, during missions, we are legally your guardians. Some of us
might be a bit more mindful of that then others, but you need to remember that.
I was asked to watch out for you, but since I'm not technically an adult
either... well, lets not worry about that, you just be sure to listen." she
tells the boy discretely, "if anything comes up, anything at all, you need to
let one of us know so we can help right away."

"You know, Turret...you and Highbrow are probably great guys...but you

"Sure, wouldn't want to move too fast for you." Tim

He moves to join Turret in finding the

Chip walks down the runway and takes a deep breath of the
dry Southern California air. He feels energized. Finally, I'll get to really use
my powers.
Realizing that he'll have to wait a few minutes for everyone
to get ready, he decides to stretch out a little. He walks a careful distance
away from the plane and beings to transform in a blaze of white light. A few
seconds later, Kid Dinosaur has become a Sauroposeidon, one of the tallest
dinosaurs known to have existed. His head is perched upon a long, slender neck,
some sixty feet above the ground. The body is equally impressive, massing nearly
fifty tons.
He takes advantage of the height to survey the immediate
area. Satisfied, he cranes his neck around and lowers it down to the
others.
"Just thought I'd stretch out my neck," he says in his normal
human voice, which has no business coming from a creature that large. "Any of

Deciding that just getting into his suit instead of argue

Striping off his pants reveals set of athletic shorts. Moving
quickly, Tim retrieves a tube of blue gel and gray patches as he starts placing
them in the appropriate places. Once the mech has been lowered down Tim grabs
the handholds and pulls himself up into the seat wiggiling slightly to get
comfortable.
Plugging several cords into place, Turret types in a quick
command onto the system and settles open mouthed helmet onto his head. Grabbing
the controls, the arms, two large chain guns with awkward metal open tubes in
their middle come up.
Turret starts the mech moving forward barely half
a minute since he left the plane.
"It just takes a while for the suit to

personel funneling in and out of the building, and many stop to look as you

Entering though one of the large warehouse doors, the

Cherry gave a slight sigh as everyone split up to do their
own thing, she wasn't at all sure that Chip had really understood what she meant
about needing to listen to adults, that the team was his legal guardians for the
moment. She wasn't even sure that Ms. Penny had remembered that she wasn't 18
yet so she couldn't be Chips Guardian. Situation Normal All F'ed Up, colorful
acronym SNAFU, unfortunately it seemed to apply.
Cherry followed the
guard when he showed them to the General, she does make sure to look out at the
reporters as she sees the flashes, figuring she can at least give them a few
good shots to start off on the right foot. Well, Turret's suit is suitably
sensational, so is Ali, Highbrow needs to stay way back from Camera's lest he
open his mouth and go all abusive on reporters, that would be bad. Once Chip
goes Dino, it'll be pretty sensational, hopefully he goes big enough to look
tough, otherwise the childrens' rights groups will have a field
day.
"Hello General, what can you tell us about the situation?
Headquarters thought there was a remote chance that this might be a Super gone
naughty, has there been any indications to that effect? I'd assume that the
Emergency Services from the surrounding states have already started to arrive,
and that there is more federal aid on the way, along with aid from more distant
states. What can we do for you that wont put us in the way of all of that?" she
asks, trying to put her best foot forward and make it seem like the team knows
at least a little bit about what they are doing.*

Turret takes an at-ease stance as he waits for
orders.
When Cherry starts in at the General with such haste and a
know-it-all attitude, Tim's jaw tightens into a grimace.
Kids need just a
little more respect.
But by the end of her speech, Cherry sounded mostly
like a really excited person who just really wants to help.
"Well, tis a pleasure to meet you all, but I see you'd
rather get down to business, and I agree. There are lives at stake."
The
general looks curiously over at Chip, and then turns and waves you to follow
him.
The General leads you over to the table, where the map of the city
with various blobs of data are on. "Ok, this is where we think most of the
damage is, from our survaliance and incoming reports." he points to a section
with a large red blob near the center of town. "I'd like to drop you in with a
chopper and let you help with search and rescue. Immediate danger zones are
here, here, and here" he points to three spots flashing red and yellow "where
gas and power lines converge. We've done what we can with the gas, but it's
still in the pipes."
"As for supers, we have no clue of that yet, but
we'll probably know more by tomorow. There is too much data coming in, and right
now our top priorities are saving those lives we can."The map shows areas of
high risk, heavy damage, as well as other data such as violence outbreaks,
looting, and survivor concentration. From the data, the center of the damage
would appear to be downtown somewhere, but you're not an expert.

Thinking about the powers of who was around and availible,
Cherry tapped her lower lip with her index finger thoughtfully. "If that machine
the three of you built is working correctly, I believe we have two people that
can find people in wreckage. Since there are multiple sites that need us, we
should split into groups, Chip in one group, and the machine with the other,
since the 3 of you know how to work the machine, and possibly repair it, I
suggest the three of you in one group, giving the group muscle," she says,
indicating Tim's suit, "and the ability to find survivors. The other group would
be Hummingbird, Kid Dino, and I."
"Once Chip's nose, and your machine read clear, we
can move on to the third hot spot, to help out there. Unless you want us to
split into 3 teams, knowing that one team would be unable to find people?" she
asks the general, giving him the option of 2 much more effective teams, or 3
less effective ones. Either way, the decision was up to the general, he was the
one in charge of the situation, it was his job to tell people where to go, and
it was their's to go there.
*** side note: I'm not quite as
diplomatic as Cherry would be, she has 8 ranks of diplomacy, and a total +12
qualifying her as an expert in dealing with people, only 1 rank from a virtual
mastery of diplomacy, and only 4 from being one of the best in the world. Well,
at least when she is trying to be diplomatic, and with the general she certainly
was.

search and rescue efforts. Though I would suggest it would be prudent to have
one member with engineering skills be assigned to each team. Potential problems
may ensue when removing debris that can cause collapses and further damage. This
could cause more injuries and deaths. With the division of sensory and lifting
prowess being what it is, Turret should be paired with Ice as she has no
Engineering skills, Sensory abilities, nor Lifting abilities and he has all of

strength and senses and so he should then be teamed with myself. This would be
the most economical and tactically sound division of our abilities." Highbrow

Specifically, the locations of the city's banks (or any other money-holding

Ice is rather quiet after the group just ignores what she
has to say. These guys couldn't convince Einstein that water was wet, yet they
were just flat out ignoring some rather reasonable explinations of why things
should be done in a certain way. She knew she was good at talking to people,
that she could make a career out of it, more then that, that she was one of the
best, she had heard it frequently enough. Normally it was easier working on
guys, but she wondered if perhaps in this situation, it was working against her,
big tough men know what to do, little girls should be seen and not heard and all
that. In either case it was annoying. Very annoying to just be dismissed like
that, like she had no powers, and was just being stuck with Turret as
filler.
"Lets stop wasting time and just go. By the way, not that you

Hummingbird heads up to the roof, followed by a thunking
noise, and a profuse string of cursing and appologies as he heads out the door
in a flash of color with CPU. (No damage, just seemed appropriate)
The
General looks a bit bemused, "So, I guess they won't be needing the rescue
worker armbands I was going to give them." He shakes his head while pulling out
6 yellow armbands from a box below the table and hands them over to the team.
"Wear these so that the police and other military know who you are."
"Your Helecoptor should be
waiting" he says, as he gives you all a salute. "Good luck, and
godspeed."
Indeed, outside and a few hundred feet away, there is a large
helecoptor with a good sized basket next to it, attached by a cable. The basket
is big enough to fit Turret, and there is more than enough room for the
remaining 3 of you. Once you're all in and secure, the 'coptor takes off, and
ushers you to your
destination.
CPU, Hummingbird:
You make good time till you realise
than neither of you knows the buildings by sight alone, at which point you slow
down till CPU manages to figure out which street is which, and get you in the
right direction. You land in an intersection between 3 large condo building and
a smaller squat building. There's a faint trace of a rather rotten smell in the
air, and it doesn't appear like any of these buildings have power. A group of
people begin to gather around, staring at you curiously as you land.
Ice,
Turret:
You are droped off first by the university hospital, which indeed
doesn't look in good condition. The overhang over the emergancy entrance seems
to have colapsed, and there are obvious cracks in the foundation. Power seems
intermittent in some areas of the building, at least as indicated by the
flashing lights in some windows, and there appears to be a large number of
people trying to file and and out of the building at the same time, with few
actualy getting anywhere. The arrival of Turret doesn't seem to help matters
much, as the people seem to become a bit more urgent about getting into the
building.
Highbrow, Kid Dinosaur:
You are droped off by the
Merchanteil Bank, and you could only hope this is ground zero. The street is
torn up and nearly useless to vehical traffic, in fact, you had to be droped off
over a block away. Some buildings in the area still have power, but it doesn't
appear the bank does, and most of the windows in the building are smashed. From
a distance, you can hear a loud alarm going off. There doesn't seem to be a
large number of people around here, though there is evidence that people fled
the immediate area.

Flying, I should say being drag into teh air is not as fun as I thought. Better

"Hmmm...." Cedric looks at the people that
surround him. He then speaks loudly "Lady and Gentlemen, can I have your attention please...
with our entrance, I already had it." he adds to himself. "I present myself, I'm
Cerdic Purkin, you can call me CPU. Here is Hummingbird. We are two members of
the Resolute.
I would like first that everyone to gather here around me.
Following the earthquake, it isn't safe to stay too near the buidlings, so I
would like you to stay at least five meters from any building at all time. If
you are aware of anyone that is hurt and cannot move, I would like you tell it
to me. One at a time and in calm please."
OOC: Hmmm, with a big +0 to
Diplomacy, I hope I will be able to convince the group to follow do what I
want.
CPU/Hummingbird:
CPU's calm and orderly requests are met
with about the same success as if he'd been talking to wild animals. Everyone
begins to talk at once and head closer to the two of them, though several near
the back seem particularly excited and are jumping up and waving, as it trying
to move people and get your attention.

If the crowd doesn't obey: "Oh damn!" he tells to

let him pass. "Yes, how can I help you?" he asks to the people who make sign to

As the basket under the Helicopter begins to descend towards

hops out, creating an Ice Slide as she does, leaving her standing a good 5 feet
above the people crowding around the entrance when she finally stops. "I am Ice,
and this is Turret, we are with the Resolutes. I'm going to need you all to
listen so that everyone can be helped as quickly as possible." She quickly
creates a waist-high wall of ice about 5 feet from the door, splitting the area
in half.
"If you need to get into the hospital, line up on the right side
of the wall, if you are trying to leave, keep to the left. Blocking the entrance
so no one can get in wont help anyone at all." she tells the crowd, doing her
best to suppress any panic, and reduce the milling useless mass that was
clogging things up.
"Turret, look over the building, and tell me where it
needs more support, and I'll support it with Pillars of Ice. Once I get them
settled down, I'm going to go in, and see who is in charge, and what they want
done."
OOC:I doubt that my attractive bonus counts, since half the crowd
is female, so I guess diplomacy +8 to settle the crowd down.

"Yes ma'am." Turret quickly starts to survey the structure
with a somewhat untrained eye. Turret slowly starts to pace around the building
searching for the best places for the ice supports.
CPU/Hummingbird:
The crowd doesn't stop, but some quiet
down enough for there to be heard above the noise people shouting "Gas!
Gas!"
Ice/Turret:
Ice isn't getting quite the desired reaction, simply
due to the shere number of people. While the one entrance that can hear her has
calmed down a bit, there are other entrances that are just as bad (The building
is actualy 4 ajoined buildings over 4 blocks, with several entrances).
Turret finds several good places for supports, though he is sure that
ice supports won't last too long, and once they melt may cause even more damage.
He can find a few key spots where it will last fairly long, or cause the least
amount of damage, but the ice support would be best in places where repairs can
be done quickly.

"CPU to head of operation. We have a gas leak." Cedirc gives
the exact point of the leak. "I want to know where is the valve that would allow

Ice/Turret:
Ice is able to move around the building, and
help with some of the panic, though it's a matter of degrees and far from fixing
the problem permanently, with far too many people trying to go through entrances

through the commlink. "CPU to head of operation. I repeat. We have a gas leak."
Cedirc gives the exact point of the leak. "I want to know where is the valve
that would allow us to cut the gas and what impact it will have on the essential
service."
Shortly afterwards, a responce crackles over the comms, "We're
getting schematics up now. We've tried to kill the power and gas from other
sources, but to no avail. How bad is the leak? You're near the pipe in the
basement right?"
CPU starts to look around for any source of water. "If I
don't have answer we will drown the pipe. It will reduce the chance of an
explosion and we might even seal it after that by burying it."
OOC: Craft
Structure +8 - I want to know if I don't know a way to repair a broken pipe that
produce no spark.
CPU can spot a single fire hydrant accross the street from
the station.
Meanwhile, the crowd, realizing the danger, has fled in a
mob like fashion down the streats. Soon, the area is clear of all but a few
stragling onlookers with cameras.

Someone trapped or in trouble. We may want to hurry."

stymied. CPU is neutralized, because if he sparks, we die. His idea is for me to
bring a sheet of metal or a big rock down into the pipe, phase it in, then let

"I
have NO idea what will happen if I try to phase solid matter INTO solid matter
and let it rematerialize...two masses suddenly occupying the same space seems
like it's just BEGGING to generate heat...and that would be bad around all this

Cedric answers through the mental link. Not that bad... heat
is not dangerous if produce in the pipe directly. Gas need oxygen to combust. If
there is more than 15% of methane in the air, it can't combust. We are talking a
100% concentration in the pipe... we just need a garantee that there will be no
oxygen that would reach the point where you insert the metal plate or rock, and
we can use water for that. You'll need to insert it in a place where the pipe is
covered by the rock and then coem water. If some hole to the surface is created
by that, water will infiltarte, and not oxygen, and so we wouldn't see a pcoket
of methane with 5% to 15% in concentration, which is what we don't want, as it
is the dangerous concentration. Basic knowledge in demolition... you need to
understand all thing that can blow.

"According to Sub-quantum Transformational Relativity Theory,
Asymmetrically phased material, also known as transphasic, is used to describe
matter that is not in a steady phasic state. That is to say, the matter in
question does not have a normal period of oscillation between an interactive
state and a non-interactive state, and it's frequency fluctuates randomly.
Instead, it shifts randomly between the two states; making it able to pass
through virtually any material, regardless of its interphase value. This should
not generate any thermal energy and I calculate you are well within safety
parameters."

Meanwhile, Ice heads up to the uper floors, and helps create
some ice slides for the less critical patients to slide down, while a few

Kid Dinosaur slowly begins to advance, with Highbrow behind

OOC: Wow! I totally had the layout of this wrong. First I
thought Highbrow advanced towards the broken window. So I thought we were
shooting through the already broken glass. Second a 27 or 32 roll on Craft

OOC: The schematics didn't mention Bullet Proof glass, so
that may have been a later addition. and since you didn't roll cruddy, you

Revision to Encounter:
Highbrow fires and the glass cracks from
