I personally vastly prefer to actually have the roll recorded somewhere.

You'll always make a few mistakes, if you've got it "written down online" you can refer back to it.

It forces you to "manperson up" and accept being wrong from time to time (or 50% of the time in my case), but I think that's better really.

Players who can see what you're doing and why and feel comfortable asking about your math are, to my mind, happier. After all, I demand the right to see rolls and double-check stuff, why shouldn't they be able to?
