Functionally, they fill the same role in the game - they are an addition to your basic character class that provides increased focus on a specific theme. However, paragon paths are obviously designed to work with the
4E system. Typically, a paragon path provides a character with three new abilities, one of which is designed to work with the action point system, and two others that expand mechanically on the path’s theme. Additionally, a paragon path provides a character with three new powers: one 11th level attack power, one 12th level utility power, and a 20th level attack power.
