I take it that you're only objecting to the idea of reversing time to a point before character death? After all, rituals and spells like
raise dead,
clone and
resurrection function very much like "save points" without the time reverse aspect, as does the play convention of "the character's twin brother shows up" or "the character's even better twin brother shows up".
