Just an update to say that we finally started this campaign last night and I had a ton of fun. I'll be keeping a record of how the
4e rules as well as these house rules worked in play in a different thread (I'll post a link here after I get that thread started).
I wanted to also mention however that we adopted a version of another house rule I found here at ENWorld. You can read about it here:
Skills Get Sea'd
Basically it boils down to rolling exploding d6's for skill checks (and only skill checks, not attack rolls). You roll 3d6+Attribute Bonus if you are untrained, 4d6+Attribute Bonus if you are trained and 5d6+Attribute Bonus if you are trained and have Skill Focus. All dice explode (i.e. if you roll a 6 then roll that die again and keep adding until you don't roll a 6).
We decided to try this out until the PC's hit 2nd level and see what we think. As I said, I'll post about how it works out in my other thread.
