Dedric's 4E Encounter Creator

With this tool DM's and GM's running 4e campaigns can easily create encounters from a low level 1 mob to a level 20 army in mere minuets. AND each encounter is specifically tailored to the Party in every way. All information and formula's come directly from the DM's Guide and Monster Manuel.

http://www.thetangledweb.net/forums/...N&pp=10&page=3

This is version 1.0 and I'm working on 2.0 which will have a built in rewards System that is also based on the party, and encounter difficulty.

Currently only supporting Open Office and Excel97, though the excel version is missing 1 table as it does not seem to have a feature I need for it to run properly.

I know the colors are deep and that will not change, I have motion vision and I need a hard transition so I can see what it is I'm working on.

Also please leave me some feedback so I can improve on it.

I am unable to use either version with my excel software (Excel 2004 for Mac). Is there something wrong with the file? It has the .rar extension for both. Is this an accident, and is this what is producing my problem?

4E philosophy: the rules are a framework for running the game. Where this conflicts with world building needs, houserule or handwave.

3E simulates the model of reality that 3E players have built in their heads. 4E fails to do this. Therefore, 3E is more realistic than 4E.-Hong

".rar" files are a compression file like .zip. You need decompress the files before gaining access to the .xls file. I recommend IZarc (free download) which can decompress most all compression types (.rar and .zip being the most common).

One mistake found on quick test...
Minions are worth 1/4 exp not 1/5.
i.e. 1st level minion = 25 exp not 20...

Otherwise very nice.

Also, how about a version the user can modify to input his own creations into?
Would be much appreciated.

Update, Fixed a calc error in calculating minion exp at level 1, also unlocked individual users ability to format the sheet so they can make it more user friendly for the user.

Thanks, I'll play with it some more and let you know how it works out. This has the potential to be VERY useful.

Thanks for developing it.

Does this tool also support waltzes?

More seriously, it's very nice. I don't want to explore too much, since I'm making one of my own and I don't want to be unduly influenced by your idea, but it looks great so far.

Note: I added treasure parcel listings as well that encompass not only the players level but difficulty and hi, normal, and, low magic item games as well.

I think three things here.

Maybe it's that I'm opening it in 2003/2007, but the dropdowns are currently broken in the version that I could locate. the data validation won't reference the other sheet in the workbook. The ones below it are just outright broken with #ref errors. If you move the list to the first sheet and hide it (which is what I'd do with the tables sheet for the most part) then you can reference it freely.

There's also spaces in the list of monsters, ones that I'm unsure if they're needed or not. If they're there for something, I can think of a way to make it work with putting a default space at the top, so it sees that first. Otherwise it defaults to the space before the level 6 harpy.

Third, "The colors, Duke, the colors!" I... might suggest sticking to a few colors, with alterable fields being highlighted perhaps another color.

I'd like to posit that you've done a great thing here, integrating the tables the way you have. I went looking for something like this earlier today (or have to write my own...) and found yours.

It's very close to win.
