Physical Qualities
As a rule, Mobians are generally quite short; ranging between 5’ and 5’5” in height, they tend toward a slightness of build that aids them in underwater environments. An endoskeleton of floating cartilage plates linked by an intricate mesh of many small muscles gives them amazing flexibility and manipulation of their own shape at the expense of diminished physical toughness. Their skin is smooth and soft; ranging from grey, through blue and into green in colour, but when excited mottled patches change colour by contracting skin cells filled with bright pigments, in females these pigments are bioluminescent. They have fine, smooth faces atop long and elegant necks that sometimes have fine frills running down the neck and across the shoulders. Long tentacles protrude from their heads, necks and between the shoulder blades; they can grow to almost ankle length in elder members of the species. These sit atop quite bulbous gill nodules that frame their thin faces; usually a darker shade of their skin tone. A Mobalian’s hands and feet are also slim, with long delicate fingers and toes; there is loose skin between them that can contract into webbing when they swim.
Playing a Mobal
Mobians can find humour and wellbeing in the most barren and depressing circumstances, they are most often the first ones to give an optimistic appraisal a hopeless situation. Many believe that it is their overwhelming curiosity that drives this racial contentment. They latch on to the ideas of others and have the ability to focus completely on investigating them; all this for the wonder that they feel upon the discovery of new insights or technologies. All of these admirable traits however, do not cushion the Mobian’s contempt for stagnancy; unproductive life forms, social structures or pointless activities have no place in their lives. The arts are not generally received well (rarely attempted at all by themselves) within their communities; drama is only present in the form of instruction and learning, they have no monuments of great events nor portraits of historical figures, they do however have an immense love of sound, and music. It is perhaps the only thing that could impress upon them more than productivity or innovation.
