D&D 4e house rule: Healing

Hey guys,

Below I've posted a house rule that intends to bring more of a feeling of danger to the table. It actually was inspired a little by the way the Dark Sun campaign setting was run, in which survival was very much an important aspect of each game. Whereas now in 4th edition, sometimes my PCs get a little too sure of themselves in combat.

Let me know what you think. I'll be making some more in the future and will post them here if there's a good response. There's also more D&D content available on my website, below. Thanks.

Not bad wounding rules... the -2 continuously is a little heavy. There is a house rule somewhere on here (with player opt in wounds) that allows wounds to have temporary impact ... with save ends then anytime the character does a roll of 1-4 the condition is aggravated and re-occurs.
That way the leg wound can slow you and similar things
I generally think a ritual healing should always be a wound removal option. So the Remove Affliction ritual should rear its head. (and wow that is 8th level).

The rule can be a little heavy depending on the group. We've already modified it slightly in our games so that you become wounded from TWO failed death saving throws (instead of one), as well as dropping the provision that running out of healing surges would wound you.

It's a recent change, though, so it'll take some time before we know if it's a good tweak or not.

There are nice legends about Lancelot and others who suffered from "an old injury" or died because one was reopened at an inopportune time ... having player characters who had such a thing could be fun.

My only question is you mention the wounded condition limits the number of surges you can spend during a short rest. What about cleric healing?

For example, let's say my fighter doesn't take any short rests, the cleric does, and uses his healing word on my me over and over. Does the wounded condition apply? If it does, then does it apply to in combat healing as well?
