Eberron here, mostly from the 3e books. Although I do deviate from some of the published details. There are a couple of Eberron setting books that Keith Baker didn't work on that don't seem to fit in so well with the setting or ethos.

I am trying to understand power sources in Zeitgeist 4e. Is the following diagram correct? Is it indeed accurate that the arcane power source is actually the power of Vona, the sun, which means that even ice wizards draw upon the sun for power? Is it true that this is not actually an animistic setting, and there are no "primal spirits" in the 4e sense of animistic nature spirits? Is it...

Ah. Those are the gods your character follows? Under most situations, where a crit does less than double damage, that is true. Warpiglet is aiming for a crit into which to dump spell slots as a smite however, doubling the benefit of the slot used.

Who writes the script for players in a RPG? Who writes all the narration, the stage directions, etc? This is why I think that under your preferred model of RPGing the players have only modest agency at best Well, this takes me back to something I said a long way upthread: having six APs to choose from, or being able to mix-and-match bits and pieces of APs, doesn't make it a player-driven...

Generally I am a natural cynic. It has some great advantages, you rarely get disappointed (expectations are low eg The Last Jedi), every now and then you get a pleasant surprise (that was better than expected eg Terminator 3, The Force Awakens). In the great D&D cycle every now and then WoTC talks up a new D&D game, and once upon a time in Dragon Magazine a D&D movies. This generally brings...

This is basically a restatement of the OP! Gygaxian dungeon crawling isn't about story or character, except as a byproduct which is fun to muck around with (like the "story" that results from playing Talisman). Another important thing about Gygaxian dungeon-crawling is that the dungeon isn't just a fiction: it's an actual physical artefact, a map, which is analogous to a board that the...

Because the real world is not a fiction that someone authored. Asking who has agency over the content of the real world doesn't make any sense. The real world isn't content/I], it's actual stuff that enters into actual causal processes. But a fiction is authored. So if the GM writes the bulk of the fiction, and the players principal relationship with it is to learn it from the GM, then player...

You might also consider introducing plague or famine. An excess of rats tends to come with one or both of the above, and the mention of sickness and hunger in the town above could go a long way toward building the atmosphere. Plus, if the townsfolk are sick and starving it adds a sense of urgency. Maybe have the players overhear a passing comment that if this isn't dealt with soon the town is...

Agatha Christie's crime stories aren't news reports. She's not discovering whodunnit, by following the clues and tracing back the causes. She's making it up! In the context of your PC's sword swing, the only way anyone knows that the sword was swung true is because there is a social process, which includes rolling dice and looking up to hit charts and the like, which tells us what the next...

I wonder if they might combine an "undead" book with an "aberration" book. Deal with cults, weird stuff, and some serious horror elements, rather than just an undead book. Seems to me like there's enough overlap between the two that you could really base an entire "here's how you build a scary D&D campaign" into one meaty tome. Expand concepts like sanity and horror, maybe even tie in the...

You're right about "2" and "3". In these you apply full dmg (distributing hits and crits proportionately) either on the first or second attack because you know either the first or the 2nd attack was a hit or crit with a successful prone. About "1" I still think that you calculate dpr normally because you don't know if it was a non miss without prone ou if it was a miss, so you must calculate...

So my minds cleared up a bit on the problem. I have 4 attacks. I will calculate the "advantage weighted" DPR of each attack. The first attacks DPR is normal as there is no chance of getting advantage. The second attack has a weight dpr of (chance first attack prones) * advD + (chance first attack doesn't prone) * D The third attack has a weighted DPR of (chance at least 1 of the attacks...

You know, you need to stop bringing up such good points ;) This actually brings up a whole OTHER point about world building. In a sense HOW CAN the players help to create a consistent fiction about a world THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT? They also really have no stake in that world, by default (they could have or develop one, but the GM would need to foster that process I would think). Once you...

I'm a fan of Prestidigitation, and Mending would fit your theme. Though as a human you might want to pick up Light. Damage-wise it's hard to go wrong with Toll the Dead They normally hover around, so anything that can fly is a good start. I prefer the Bat to the Owl, if only because you can equip it with a bauble of Darkness and have mobile LoS blocking.
