I assumed fighting giants was a matter of wits and roguishness, not trying to be the same strength as one. Makes for a very different style of play. Don't get me wrong, I love getting stuff. But I don't think we *need* it.

You can't reach the phlogiston simply by flying upwards, any more than you can reach the Astral. It's prime material all the way up (at least until you bump against the inside of the crystal sphere). In either case it represents a transitory plane, the space between worlds, hyperspace. It's really an unnecessary complication from a game-play point of view (although technically not...

And, to me, that kinda fits with my point. In a group with casters, skills IME get somewhat sidelined. Not completely of course, but, de-emphasized I guess would be the way I would put it. I wanted a stronger focus on skills to overcome challenges rather than just scratching off another spell slot.

The discovery was smaller than a pea, but semi-transparent, and quite beautiful to behold with it's blue across one hemisphere, shifting to orange at the other. It rattled in a bucket as the gnome confidently tossed it a couple of yards, across to shore. “What do you think, Redeye?” ...

I have never had a GM play it that way or run it that way. I keep the same DCs and its usually easier if people are helping you do something but isn't that the nature of "helping" because if its not then its not really helping to my mind. With that in mind, its also completely possible that some skill tests could have a DC that is too high for one person to do and you would need a group to do it....

I'm getting a bad feeling about this. The impression is clueless designers with no vision - it sounds more like they're trying to solve a puzzle (which piece fits where?) than they're having a strong and consistent idea of what psionics is, and only are debating how to implement it...

A million times this. The problem with the current class design is that, for many classes, the subclass features are too little, too late. If I want to play a psychic warrior, i don't want to be a generic fighter for 2 levels, then get a drip of psionics that kinda-sorta works with my 90% core fighter chasis. Just give me the damned battlemind or psywar from level 1 with psionic ability that...

The system steps back 10yds and punts to the DM, as part of its core resolution mechanic. Its written in 'natural language,' so ambiguous enough to require constant interpretation & rulings, from the DM. It simply doesn't exist without one. Is that hogwash? Maybe, but since MM washed the 5e hog, it's been immunized from criticism. I know from another thread that you've moved past the...

There are creatures that make any given class less effective. Non-corporeal undead make melee combat proficiency of questionable value. Golems have a resistance or pure spell immunity makes arcane casters all but useless in fighting them. The list goes on. It's part of play that there are times when the team has to adapt to cover one another's weaknesses. To eliminate any of these...

A thought: instead of spiked chain, you might consider using something in the Flail family, all of which are disarming/tripping weapons. You give up reach, yes, but it’s not exotic (saving you a feat) and they’re not finesseable (saving you a feat). Instead, take XWP: Bola. That will let you trip at range. With a heavy Flail, you do 1d10, but it’s a 2 handed weapon. A regular Flail still...

That's not useful in combat. But, as far as in past editions, gods could cast any spell they desired without needing components or spell slots. As a DM, I would say, feel free to grant any monster abilities that they normally don't come with if they are important to your story. As for Archdevils, they can grant wishes which means they can cast the wish spell when making deals. I...

I'm actually thinking of demoting Asmodeus back down to archdevil and then having Mephistopheles' plans finally come to fruition overthrowing, Asmodeus. Whether or not he manages to hold onto rulership of the Nine Hells is another matter. I'm also changing Abishai to be servants of Tiamat only, outside the hierarchy of the hells and so unable to be commanded by an Archdevil.

The games DCs outside of combat aren't remotely balanced. That's why there's so much advice around which is basically "don't ask for rolls unless you can't avoid it", along with "try to convince your DM that you just succeed without having to roll".
