The way I tend to do world building for my campaigns, is to write out the basics of every important location in my campaign. So I'll write a short piece of text for every country, island and city. Just a basic description. Then I'll flesh out some of the cultures, and the religions. But when it comes to the finer details, such as maps, adventure hooks, quests... those I tend to write out just...

These feats would not look quite like the feats we have today. Your selection would shape how the character plays. I think generally, the intention was to make it sandbox in an old-school way, so they *don't* have to do the various quests. They do them if they want to or if they feel it's right to. It's set up differently to a standard adventure in that it is very possible to meet the dragon unprepared.

Even comparing to the height of 3e, the market is still about 50% larger. I think it's very safe to say that 5e is doing extremely well. And the fact that it is doing this well four years after release is practically unheard of.

I thought 4E was a good game, but not at being a good D&D. I played D&D minis and it kind of felt like an advanced version of that with leveling instead of point buy warbands. I liked some of the 4E stuff in Star Wars Saga for example and atm we're having a discussion about 5Eing SWSE or using some parts of it to revise the old D6 Star Wars RPG (basically consolidate skill system into things like...

Warting Wind: Anyone in the area of effect becomes covered in warts. Swill Empowerment: Transmutes common ale into wine or hard liquor. Gyrotechnics: Summons a pita filled with rotisserie-cooked meat and vegetables. Maddening Dorkness: Forces everyone within the area of effect to debate the finer points of a niche culture.

Even a few thousand people on DDI probably could finance 5E and they had the older edition reprints as well.

The four spell themes that PF2 is implementing is extremely powerful. I have been using it myself for a number of years now, for 4e and 5e. It is doable, useful, flexible, and flavorful. I developed these four when organizing all the official spells by theme, and found that *every* spell organizes into one of these four themes. • Psionic/Charm/Divination/Telekinesis/Force/Mental •...

I just think people like to get carried away. If you adjust the old TSR figures for inlfation at its height D&D was twice the size of the current RPG market at its peak and for several years was around the same size (81-83 or so). Even with a 30% drop in 84 which wrecked them (300 odd staff does that) its still bigger than the entire modern RPG market. Thats why I am sceptical and thats...

It's not a great idea. In fact, I predict PF2 will fail if they forget that the allure of D&D is the texture - the incongruities, the exceptions, the oddities. Nobody want a generic game with abstract classes and fully streamlined rules. There are already retroclones and heartbreakers a plenty. What does PF2 bring to the table if not the D&D experience? Remember, Paizo succeeded because...

In the foursome − Empathy, Perceptiveness, Athleticism, Toughness − I want all spellcasters to use Empathy as the casting stat for accuracy, but use Perceptiveness for spell damage and higher effect, and longer range. So there can be some mages who are naturally good at casting spells (Empathy), and other mages who have more potent spells (Perceptiveness). Because of the way spells are...

Paizo's latest Pathfinder 2nd Edition blog post delves into the topic of alchemy. They've designed the basics, separating it from magic, and linking it to crafting. Alchemists can make bombs, elixirs, poisons, and tools. This follows up on the previous look at the Alchemist class. Bombs -- the baselines for bombs are alchemist's fire, liquid ice, and bottled lightning; the bomb...

I am amused by this theorycrafting. 4E failed. It did so because it forgot to be a role-playing game first and foremost. I loved the tactical battle game, but in the end, we dropped 4E because the combats took so much time there wasn't enough energy and focus left for the actual RPG experience. I imagine this was the same for you too, yet somehow you keep discussing as if the game...

Anecdotally the fighter is the least likely to end the day with extra HS. If that is par for the course, he needs his HS more its a higher cost. I guess if low risk circumstances were in place, maybe. Additionally the DMG2 is right on the cost rate 1/10 of a magic item price == 1 healing surge , ie A bribe which actually grants auto successes in your skill challenges at level 1 will be 36 gp....
