This is so simple, and people are trying to make it hard. You have an action on your turn. You take your action. You can move before and/or after. If you have a bonus action, like the rogue, you can take your action, then your bonus action or you can do your bonus action and then your regular action. You can move as much or as little as you want between your action and bonus action, but not...

Maybe keep it even simpler. You can use Deflect Arrow to deflect and redirect elemental attacks against you. When you are the target of an attack roll that would deal elemental damage, . Basically, exactly like deflect arrows, but for magic attacks.

If you have an evil spellcaster enemy at large, then this works: this person acquired a cubic inch of your flesh by examining the scenes of several encounters after you and your party had left and collecting little bits of your skin and blood. They used it to cast clone on you, 120 days ago. Then their minions kill you, and you revive in the clone-vat, and you are their prisoner. You escape later.

With today's post, we come to the end of book 10 of the story. Book 11 is the last one, though it is fairly long (we have a whole new continent to explore, after all). I felt some Isle of Dread vibes while writing this one. * * * Chapter 258 As the wounded Gull crept slowly closer to the distant shore, more details of the new land became visible to those watching on the ship. Well traditionally half-dragons would have been the offspring of a dragon in humanoid form. So no “dragon sex” and the dragon would always be the father (because the human/elf, whatever is giving birth), and only dragons that can take a humanoid form without a spell could do so, making most of the metallic dragon offspring. In Krynn (Dragonlance), draconians (the first half-dragons/Dragonborn...

Isn’t it obvious? Prior to Episode VII, the Force was asleep. People had to work hard (some harder than others) to tap into it. But now that the Force is awake, people can tap into it without as much training. Personally I like Rey, but then I have three daughters, so I’m undoubtedly biased.

I think you underestimate the Grappler feat with this class. Advantage on all attacks against a creature you are grappling is huge. It even nets you advantage on a shove since that is a special attack if you want to give your friends advantage. But if the party is more ranged focused and don't want you to shove the target, no problem you still get advantage on all attacks and the target isn't...

It doesn’t need to be that complicated, and crossbows function quite differently. A bow isn’t really going to take longer to “load.” And it’s capable of a bonus based on its draw weight. For example, a bow (STR 15) would require a minimum of a 15 STR to draw, and grant a +2 bonus. Even if you had an 18 STR, it would still be +2. A simple rule would be to use the better of DEX or STR, but...

The whole 'combat is too long in 4e' thing actually mystifies me. Maybe we played it wrong, or maybe we played AD&D wrong (pretty much skipped 3.x as a DM). It seemed like combat in 1e/2e and combat in 4e didn't occupy a radically different amount of time. They were different, and the time wasn't allocated in exactly the same way, but in most cases I would say combats in AD&D took a pretty solid...

In addition to the "Thrown Weapons are Ammunition" house rule, I might add extra range for thrown attacks for high Str. Maybe +5' effective and max range for every Str bonus? So a 20 Str fighter can throw a hand axe 45' effective or 85' max. Javelins would be 55' and 145'. It's simple and that way not everyone is using bows.

Warriors routinely take a -5 to attack with a variety of feats (like Great Weapon Master) and I have never once seen someone characterize that as "not going to hit anything". Disadvantage is a bummer, but it's far from doom to an...

Why do you care? The actual difference isn’t worth worrying about but how you RP the whole thing is. Do you move with the speed of your God or Lay the Pimp Hand of righteousness on them. Don’t chase a small number you can’t catch.

I get what you're saying, but I think you're over-estimating the accuracy of a single javelin attack made with Disadvantage. A wizard literally can't hit an enemy that's 100 feet away, but the fighter effectively can't hit an enemy that's 100 feet away. The fighter with a javelin may technically be better off, but that's just a technicality. For all intents and purposes, neither is going to hit...

Hawke and Nimbar introduce themselves, saying that they have traveled a great distance on an errand of business. Tellerian says, "Nimbar and I were scouts in the Royal Army of Furyondy, only recently finished our tour of duty. Now we are adventure-seekers, and if need-be, mercenaries, as long as the cause is just. I won't take part in any endeavor in which the weak are preyed upon." Nimbar...

I know right? These young people with their selfies and their apps and their podcasts and their pierced septums. We didn't have any of that when I was a kid. If you wanted to know what other roleplayers were thinking you read the letters page of Dragon magazine, and if you wanted to shock people you stuck a safety pin thru your ear. PS Pathfinder is New School.

Yeah, we dropped it after the second adventure. We just didn't think it was any fun. Whether that was due to adventures designed to stress-test the system, or whether it was due to a poor system, I'm not sure - probably a bit of both. Pathfinder is a little odd because the original impetus of making it was "People like the adventure paths we did first in Dragon and then as their own...

In a game where HP and damage scale with level, quantified DR tends to become trivialized whenever it doesn't become immunity. Look at DR 10/magic, as an example. If you're a starting character, then you need a crit in order to get through; DR 10 might as well be immunity, as far as you're concerned. But then you get to high levels, and a rogue can sneak attack for 50 damage, so DR 10 barely...

Taking in the scene, I clear my throat and look to the others. "Which option sounds best to each of you? One - camp here. Two - camp with all of them," I say with a sweeping gesture at the masses ahead of us. "Three - we ride around their encampment and press on. Or four - we ride through their encampment and press on."

Actually, as I noted, the ~2 was assuming dragons has resistance. They don't, so it's already ~4. Accounting for crits, it'll be ~9, as it's all dice damage.

Maybe the PCs have to trap her in a certain place (say, a ruined temple of Pelor) before they can have a chance of beating her. Then luring her into the place where they want her to be is part of the challenge.

I like 2, 4, and 5 the best. I might give the players a chance to have Pelor bless one of their weapons to create an artifact with power over life and sun, after proving themselves to him of course. Then they could find that one of her allies kept the knife she used to kill the gods' high priests for themselves, which could provide the players protection against the Frostfell Queens power. How...

Here are the ranges of the 15 Wizard attack cantrips: 60 Feet: 5 5 feet or touch: 5 120 Feet: 2 30 feet: 1 15 feet: 1 So about half of them (7) have a range the same or shorter than the short range of a Javelin; 5 have a range double that of the short range of a Javelin but shorter than the long range of a Javelin, two have a range equal to the long range of the Javelin. None have a...

I pointed out the difference is in the way they were booked. Luke had people bailing him out, Luke had to get trained. It's not just Rey in that either the kid is also using powers untrained. They also made some effort to explain things and the world building. And Darth Emo basically explains why Kylo is not s compelling villain. Rey can beat Kylo already there's no real reason to pay money...

The "fun" part of only hitting on a 20 is that every hit is a critical! That just about doubles the damage they're dealing, from ~2 to ~4.

How can she have a "home ground advantage" when she does not fly around her home ground? You know there is a pretty substansial difference between walking and flying right?. Luke had a "home ground advantage" and he still got punked. It baffles me the amount of mental gymnastics that you have to go through to equate the two characters. You wring your hands about Luke and a bunch of X-Wings...
