Well, obviously any look at any GAME is subject to "when used like this..." qualifications. Techniques and procedures may have various purposes as well, etc. I think we all understand this. 2 points are worth touching on: 1) D&D (refer to any of the various prefaces and introductory material for pre-2e versions of D&D) is explicitly described as a heroic adventure game. This would reasonably...

I'd say we're overdue for an Oath of Liberty Paladin, whose abilities focus on freeing captives from bondage, preventing themselves and allies from having their movement hindered and their mind affected, and has powers that help make an effective army out of the oppressed common folk. Basically, a 5e-appropriate expansion of the Holy Liberator concept.

At low levels getting hit by tashas or dissonant whispers is a death sentence for a goblin or kobold or knoll or insert generic low level enemy here, so by your own admission 70% of mobs are just straight :):):):)ed and there is nothing they can do. The way action economy works if 3 mobs are attacking you and 2 are totally down for even 1 turn then it's trivial to overcome the 1 still standing,...

This is incorrect. The explicit rule is that the DM must choose whether to allow the multi-classing option, and even if they do so, they still have free reign to allow or dis-allow any specific combination as they see fit. You could have a world where multi-classing was limited to the combinations available in AD&D, and that is entirely within the explicit permissions granted to the DM in this...

A Rogue 1/Ranger 5 start would only put you one level behind on Extra Attack, and you'd get one full extra skill proficiency over starting as a Ranger. As for the Scout's Nature and Survival skills feature conflicting, that's already covered in the RAW. PHB p. 125: "If a character would gain the same proficiency from two different sources, he or she can choose a different proficiency of the...

I think the first thing I would try is tying it to Inspiration. You can spend Inspiration to set up a flashback. I would also set a specific time frame that flashbacks have to take place with in. For example, after Jorlan offered to leave the gate unlocked but before you started your escape attempt (which in my game was a two day span).

I do not run into characters going to zero HP. However, a mechanic I see used in the MM is the reduction of maximum HP value. Instead of adding exhaustion, would a reduction in max HP give you what you are looking for? The recovery of max HP values tends to be directly tied to a long rest. In other words, any changes to max HP is reset on a long rest. My first thought is to reduce the max HP...

Most, though certainly not all, of the new spells released post PHB, seem to have been designed with the overriding goal of not overshadowing PHB spells, unless the spell was designed as a 'fix' or to fill a certain gap. There are exceptions, or course, but one need only look at the interview they gave (I can't remember which designer) about...

I consider +0 weapons (such as vicious or sharp weapons) to be less common offshoots. Basically, a +0 weapon isn't a category of itself, it's basically a +1 weapon with a weird special ability replacing the +1 bonus. Not that it matters much, but if we are initially...

Not only that, but another deity will probably be needed to instigate the demonic incursion in place of Lolth. Sure, you could...

I use the following rule at my table: Each time you reach 0 hit points, you will gain a level of Exhaustion; these levels stack with each other. A Short Rest will negate one level of this exhaustion per point of Constitution modifier, while a Long Rest will negate double this amount (i.e. your Constitution modifier times two).

That is another option. There are many ways to create bellcurve depending upon what you want to achieve with the dice rolls. Yeah, but that seems to assume that critical fumbles are necessary. I'm not entirely sure. Again, it depends on what you want.

Presumably a bellcurve distribution of die results. I'm just not sure why there appears to be a jump from a simple 3d6 system to one that distributes 3-18 to one that distributes from 3-22 by consulting an off-colored die. That seems like the needlessly complex part. I don't see why, for example, one couldn't just make it 4d6 instead rather than this confusing system.

you are right that you need a counter for how many times a player falls. You don't have to tie that counter to exhaustion though. Consider if a character can only fall down and be dying so many times before non-natural healing stops working on him. As long as you pick a smallish number then your players have plenty of incentive to not play whackamole all combat.
