I really do not see how you could play real life political views in a DnD game. I mean for a start you have Villains who really are Evil rather then merely crooked and illegal aliens that really are Alien.

Looking into Boros Angels, I think they made War Leader Angels and Firemane Angels separate types of Battle Angels to help make sense of both the art and lore. Because Razia and Firemane Angels had four wings, but Aurelia while still a red head, only had two wings. So making them different, but related types fixes this.

Pro 1. This was a design goal. IME it's actually easier to teach new players 5E than 3E/PF, because of the simplicity. 2. See Pro #1 3. More intentional design. Characters can take as long or short as desired to create & level. 4. Sadly, this isn't quite true IME, but a rules lawyer is going to find a way... 5. You are comparing it to the target creature's AC. Not the target creature's armor's base AC or anything else. That's the only AC it can affect. It doesn't target armor, it targets a creature. That's their AC - not part of their AC but we'll add a shield later, or just the base AC of their armor, or AC without cover, or anything like that. If the DM says, "what's your AC" - that's your...

Brushing your teeth is a real-world activity, and not really analogous to the nit-picking of game mechanics. Here are a couple of examples which, I think, serve to illustrate the distinction between the Attack Action and an attack. Your PC declares the Attack Action, either explicitly or by saying "I'll take a couple of swings at the orc standing in front of me." As it happens, there is...

First, if you only have the individual adventure PDFs, I'd encourage you to get the hardcover compilations. They provide some errata, clarify some plot elements, and clean up the distinction between elves and eladrin. In 4e, elves were basically the classic 'wood elf' who focus on nature, and eladrin were 'high elves' who focused on arcane magic. When we first started the conversion to PF, we...

Combat clarity gives one person advantage on all attacks rolls, and as a reaction can cause one successful attack to become a critical hit, ending the spell. The only thing it doesn't do that you suggest for Doomsight is give max damage. And, like all magic items, you can't "stack" effects by consuming several, even if they are for different spell levels. Also, perhaps limit it to prepared casters? Marshal Troops it occurs to me rather deals with the "Warlords should be able to interact with masses of troops" thought which I have heard expressed more than a couple of times.

Your observations are mostly correct, and it looks like you have a good assessment of which elements work for you and which don't. I do have a couple of comments. You can actually make that sort of fighter just by focusing on Strength and taking the Athletics skill. If you are a human or half-elf, there is a feat in Xanathar's Guide to Everything that lets you get double your proficiency...

I love throwing in new monsters that are just different enough to confound the players. A lot of the APs have this problem. You needed fights to gain the XP to level up to the appropriate level for the next adventure. Milestone leveling solves this problem, as well as making a lot less bookkeeping for you. If you don't want it to seem hand-wavy, or your players like counting XP, just...

The changeling shapeshifting I think is magical, I'll look it up later. But the magic/love/energy siphon is biological, so that part is possible for them to assimilate. Most likely for higher subspecies like the brood mothers/queens and the like.

Ah I didn't realize your post was specific the first point, since my post was about taking it altogether as a whole. So in my mind it was no ho back merely a reiteration. Apologies for the miscommunication.

This is where we see the problem of communication being so very clear in theory but not practice. You made in a single post a sarcastic reference to a system that rewarded better communication with the gm *and* a system which removes that need by allowing the player to decide on their own what proficiency - to handle the expressed issue of describing in a way to make it clear enough which...

EDIT: I guess it is highly dependent upon your potential bonus action options and how hard it is to hit or knock down your opponent.

Hi, all! I have launched a Kickstarter funding drive for our fourth 5E D&D adventure module, Wyrmkeep Dungeons TZ1: Raiders of the Cloud Castle. A party of 6 to 8 characters of 8th to 10th level seeks to defend a isolated village by making a preemptive strike on the floating stronghold of a band of vicious raiders. Can they succeed on a wing and a prayer, literally? Learn more by visiting...

Thanks dave2008! So with doomsense I can see where you and others have reservations about divination spells dealing damage. But the way I like to see it is since the caster is really using magic to enhance the outcome of a damaging attack (like nudging a person to step on the one slick spot on the ground and slip into the fighter's sword). As such, it seems appropriate to me. Also, I don't...

I remember reading an admittedly fictional battle scene were were warriors wielding axes in the shield wall used them to pulled down the shields of their foes, while others with spears would take advantage of that. I also remember the tale of a hero using his long hafted axe to catch the top of a palisade and pull himself over. As a kid who grew up completely enamored with the sword, those...

‘Tis the season to be spooky! What sort of Halloween themed dungeons, encounters or story arcs have you run or participated in in the past, or have planned for this Halloween? I expect my players to clear Wave Echo Cave next session, and afterwards they will be traveling through the Underdark to find the next dungeon. I’m thinking of doing some kind of Alien: Isolation style escape scenario where...

My intention wasn't that you could get it more than once per round, what I meant was only removing the condition upon its use. It would still only be once per round.

Jericho followed the small goblin into the chamber, holding his staff at the ready, for he was completely blind without some form of light. He glanced about quickly but when the goblins came into view he faltered hoping those that excelled in combat moved before him... Do you want a new Perception roll or the 9 from before? Cause I don't mind rolling again :) 1) Stride to D8 2) Step to D7...

The original interpretation allowed the melee attacker to attack at advantage with often multiple attacks. This version, while not using a bonus action, also doesn't cause advantage for the attacker as often. So I am not sure it's "more powerful" than the original interpretation. I am also unsure why it took a bonus action to begin with - you're not doing anything extra by knocking someone down...

I think the absence of any animals that are stronger than a frikkin' Tyrannosaurus Rex is responsible for the lack of high-CR beasts! Seriously, the Tyrannosaurus it pretty much the optimal apex predator you can create without violating the laws of physics, and once you do that you're in the realm of Monstrosities and Abberations, not Beasts.
