"Basic" in one form or another, started with it and played it on an off until 5e. Tried every edition to varying degrees but basic is the only one I kept coming back to consistently (usually when things started to feel bloaty or cumbersome). 5e is really adding up the time spent though.

I'll chime in with the camp of "If it's not internally consistent and can't create all of the spells in the PHB while maintaining balance, then there's no point to this". I admire the desires of those who want to fiddle with bits, but if an experienced and fair DM can simply look at a spell description given him or her by a player and allow it or not.. that's preferable to creating a system...

Earlier editions had rules about downgrading actions to take more of a quicker one. But that's not quite the role of a bonus action in 5e. A bonus action is not an allotted amount of time you have in every round - you don't have a bonus action if not granted by something. Rather, it's something you do along with your normal action. You can even resolve it before the triggering action (e.g....

My timeline: 1981-1983: B/X 1983 to 1989: 1e with the occasional B/X 1989-2012: Mostly 1e with 2e elements included. Sparse 3e here and there after 2000 2012-present: 5e So 1e is the clear winner here, with some elements of 2e being used (like bard class and thief skill progression system and priest spheres)

I'm going to include "D&D-like" d20 games in here. AD&D 2ed blows all of the3 others away in terms of length of time as well as hours played. Really, it's in an unassailable spot for me both with how long it was out but also those were my HS and college years and I'll never have the density of gaming - the number of hours per week spent - that I don't see any edition ever surpassing that. ...

Unless you're cheesing extra spell slots with Tome of the Stilled Tongue / Spell Gem abuse, it's surprisingly difficult to use Glyph of Warding. Pretty much the only buff out of the PHB that it's really good for is Stoneskin. Granted, that's a VERY good use (game-changing, really) but the combination of casting time and spell duration shuts out a lot of buffs. That said, it's a pretty overpowered...

I've commented before that hit points are a variable abstraction that represent both physical health and energy/ luck/ skill in a Heisenberg/ Schrödinger state. They work really well in the game as a form of plot armour, allowing higher level characters to survive longer and making them less fragile with levels. But they make zero sense. The more you think about hit points, the less sense they...

Another thing about D&D Beyond, the full price you pay for each book costs WoTC nothing, its just a PDF with no production cost. Going rate for PDF versions of anything is always way lower then the print version. Essentially Beyond is an app with a $200+ price tag, as you need PHB, DMG, Sword Coast, Xanathars and Volos, with future costs coming. That’s a terrible business model to try to...

Regardless of its legality or intention, right now there are no big offenders that jump out at me with regards to how balanced turning an action into a bonus action would be. In almost every case, with two exceptions, I've needed an action or some resource to make that bonus action shine or be desirable. The exceptions would be taking two bonus actions to prepare spells or abilities. Like...

Commanding a creature that the BoT has previously summoned is a bonus action. I don't think there are any situations where using your action to perform a bonus action will break anything. Occasionally it might not make sense, though I can't really think of any good examples.

It is pretty well known that as we get older, our friend circles will naturally shrink, due to diverging circumstances, deaths, etc. Meeting new people and making them into friends is something that we need to actively pursue in order to maintain a healthy connection to the outside world. Gauging people’s reactions or direct feedback to an rpg is really hard face to face, because so much of a rpg depends on the gm style and player pool anyway. Not to mention the face to face environment with a player and the designer makes for it difficult to get...

Problem #1: I realize you asked for a subclass and not a class. #2: The Witch class concept, myth, literature, and folklore are too vastly broad to boil down into a single subclass. #3: 5e is overrun with spell casting and casters. Next thing that comes to mind: I WANT AN ARCANE...
