Normally I'd agree. But when that game designer issues a ruling on how a rule works, and the ruling is 100% clear, and then three years later he issues a different and completely opposite ruling, and that different and completely opposite ruling is also 100% clear, we're now in a territory where the designer of that rule isn't sure how he meant it to work in the first place. He really, honestly...

It's really not. My "declaration with an immediate effect" leaves a character, having taken the attack action, with several weapon attacks he can make, one of which must be a shield bash. Your "process of taking action" would require the character to first make the attack granted by the attack action, then make the attacks granted by the extra attack feature, then make the (shove) attack granted...

This statement is at odds, however, with the fact that Crawford said in 2017 that he had been wrong in 2015. It is therefore the case that at one point or another, Crawford was wrong. Either he was wrong in 2015, or he was wrong in 2017. His position might make it technically impossible, but reality makes it absolutely certain. Any system of rules must accommodate the possibility of mistake or...

Technically so would Todd Howard; considering the term "barrow wight" comes from an extremely inventive 19th century translation of the Norse undead draugr. But then the Elder Scrolls started out as somebody's home brew D&D campaign, so maybe all mythological references are circular in a way.

The argument unfortunately wasn't that Crawford interpreted it in a different way; the argument seems to be that Crawford's interpretation is, by RAW, wrong. The problem with that argument is that Crawford's interpretations of the rules being wrong are, by virtue of his position, technically impossible. At least, absent any proof beyond an...

A Reaction trigger requires an observable condition. "Start of turn" is not an observable condition, though a Reaction could potentially be triggered with similar timing due to the manner in which it is worded, or a lenient DM may not give a damn and simply allow it. A trigger must be completed before a Reaction occurs, unless specified otherwise. Crawford made a similar...

Is it possible that the unique wording for barkskin was because they wanted its effects to carry over into wildshape? If it gave the druid chain mail that gives the druid an ac calculation that gets replaced in wildshape, but barkdkin does not alter the AC calculation, so maybe that's why this spell gets a different text.

Yep. Take is a present tense. ďMom: when you take your medicine you can have ice creamĒ. Kid tries to argue like yunru that since he started lifting his medicine that he has taken it. Mom isnít convinced and gives no ice cream till he completes taking his medicine

This is a stipulation which has no grounding in natural language (which 5e is supposedly written in) and no support in the rules text. It's the insertion into interpretation of an external idea. The natural language example: From X takes a swing at Y you can infer that X has commenced moving his/her fist at some speed towards Y. That's it. There is certainly no implication that X's fist has...

YMMV. Many of your consideration are what I would consider pros, like the elegance of builds or improvisational nature of DC challenges. The "classic feel" seems to be a big part of what is drawing in younger players, oddly enough, in contrast to crunchy video games. As someone who started with 3.x and played it for a long while, I could never go back after 5E.

Citation needed. Because that's against every rule of grammar relevant to the subject. Get it through your skull: Take. Is. Present. Tense. If you've finished something you're not taking it because you've already taken it. EDIT: You know what, you're right. To take an action you can't just have started taking it. Because to start an action is to take it.

I changed Combat Clarity. I agree that causing disadvantage of saves is not really in line for the intention of the spell. And so I think I came up with a unique mechanic that could be interesting.

This seems to me to be another case of reading external notions into the rules. I don't think it helps. The rules don't distinguish starting an action from taking one. I don't think they use the notion of starting an action at all, do they? In 5e - which doesn't use a distinct declaration phase in the way classic D&D tends to and the way that many RPGs and wargames do - to declare an action...

To take something you canít just have started taking it. You must complete the taking of it. Immediately afterward you would be said to have took it.

"And now Taylar, it seems." Vittero adds, cracking his knuckles and looking at Maka. Maka centers himself in the design as the two others had done previously. He concentrates on the feel and the flux of the Way line comprising the standing node. Confirming his suspicion, he is sure of the accuracy of his theory, but than the accidental results accomplished by Raven Elk and Taylar, he finds that...

High level monsters typically also get more supernatural abilities in order to keep up with the capabilities of the adventurers. You can scale up the numbers on a bear so that it will be CR 15, but even then it still won't pose as much of a threat as other monsters at that CR. And once beast like creatures start to get supernatural abilities it usually pushes them into the monstrosity category. ...

??? Well now you just make no sense. Take, verb: use or have ready to use. If you're "starting" something, you're taking it. If you "start" something, you take it. As for your last sentence: See every time I've asked you what it matters. Shield Master DOESN'T CARE if you've taken something, only that you take it.

This isn't true for poetry, and it isn't true for legislation - both of which have received far more attention as objects of interpretation than RPG rules - so I don't see any reason to think that it would be true of the 5e rules. The "rules as written" say that the bonus action is enlivened when you take the attack action. What counts as taking the attack action? Contra Yunru, I think that...

Raven Elk does not respond. Perhaps at the distance, the exact words cannot be understood. Vittero offers, "Flying sounds right. Maybe he was able to jump himself from here to there. Although how he landed without breaking his legs, I cannot figure." Using what little talent he has developed to manipulate mechanical Way, Taylar tries to push air to make himself fly over to Raven Elk. The...
