Thanks for such a fast response! 8D Coroc, my Problem got pointed out by Nevvur's PHB Text. They gain disadvantage because they cannot see you, but at the same time also gain Advantage because you cannot see them .. which cancels out. Which is a counterintuitive, but I can live with that (most RPGs have some Rule-Quirks), it just makes Fog Cloud quite hard to use, except out of combat for...

Are you specifically asking about damage resulting from a saving throw which is itself triggered by an attack? That seems to be the common point of your examples. If that is the question, I'm not aware of anything in the rules that addresses it. It sounds like most people interpret an effect that carries its own save as separate from the attack itself. That seems logical to me, if it were...

Recently in one of my games a player came up with the idea that he could use his class abilities when using his magical wand. He is a Sorcerer, with the Sea Archetype from UA. His argument was that he could use his bonus lightning damage when using a wand of lightning bolts. As far as I am aware you cannot use class abilities in conjunction with magical items. Also, how does the curse of the sea...

"It seems it is decided," states Miss Imogen to Qawasha. "Lead us on, as you would have us travel." It is not for her to decide if they portage the canoe up the falls; the guide knows what awaits them above. She seats herself on a nearby rock, tightens her bootlaces, and again picks up her bow. With a single clean gesture, well practiced with years of work, she strings her bow, her knee...

This seems like a strange direction to take this discussion/debate. Are you really advocating anyone use terms willy nilly to say things as they wish because it shouldn't matter to anyone else because presumably no-one else is at their table and therefore no objection is warranted? Is that really the type of discussion you're wanting to promote?

Having recently reread the OP,ost I can affirmatively say that the question was not, in any way, limited to Story Now implicitly or explicitly. And, the discussion, right from the start, involved the OPoster evaluating traditional play's use of worldbuilding using a Story Now lens. The behavior was on both sides. And I've called out both sides repeatedly, so I'm not trying to hypocritically...

In Norse traditions, any nature spirit can adopt or marry any other nature spirit, including humans. So it makes sense to me if a player wants a character that combines two (or more) heritages. Individuals exist who combine various two nature spirits: wilderness spirits (jǫtnar, risar, þursar, troll), elf sunlight spirits (alfar), dwarf land spirits (dvergar), civilization-sky spirits (æsir),...

As you say this Bendons face contorts into a strange blend of confusion and joy. Like he is brought joy from the confusion you seem to have brought him. He seems to think there is a miss communication here, but for some reason it makes him happy and he isn't going to spoil it. Deuce, it's basically the same as the image coding MCB uses just substitute img with ooc. If you want to do...

I quickly brought together the stats for this character directly in the official character sheet. I usually use my own character sheets, but in this case I thought you might prefer the more familiar one. The character is a human Paladin based on the default ability scores array, and using the Harmonium background from your Player's Guide to Planescape. Character picture of course had to...

I know we don't agree on everything RPG related, but I think we're in agreement that the interesting part of this thread isn't the semantics!

From this it's rather clear that you are more interested in describing the other side in a poor light rather than achieving any kind of mutual understanding. You have fun with that.

I feel the player − as part of the character concept − needs to decide how much of a heritage the character expresses. The default race (in most settings) is human. So a feat that attributes an ability to ‘elf heritage’, allows the player to choose whether the character is fully elf or partly elf, including the possibility of a full human raised among elves or an elf raised among humans, as...

I think that that was the intro for the article: a paladin talking to someone who had registered as Evil. Explaining that their sword was for dealing with monsters but their words and faith were for those who still had a chance at redemption. And suggesting that the person rethink, and change their life before the paladin's sword became necessary. Edit: Found the link: its not exactly what I...
