Telekinesis (moving objects) feels different thematically from elemental-kinesis. I like the wizard getting elemental-kinesis. I still want the psion to have telekinesis. Possibly the constructor psion can also be the master of telekinesis (mental force), so much so, one can even create force constructs (made out of mental force).

DC 10 for non-proficient checks is at least a 20% failure chance at about level. It's usually around a 40% failure chance. Yes, at a certain point, for proficient (and especially expert) PCs, DC10 becomes trivial, but the module writers can't assume the task will only be attempted by those PCs. DC 20, within the level range the modules are written for, is, for expert PCs, still a 30% failure...

I want to update the Original Post, but am hesitant about the unclear relationship between the psychic warrior fighter and the immortal barbarian Psion • Awakened (telepath) • Nomad (teleporter) • Metamorph (shapeshifter, psychometabolism) • Constructor (force constructs, shaper, metacreativity)

4e, and to some extent 5e, have different game philosphies. The stat block in 4e was not intended to represent everything a god (or monster for that matter) could do. Just what what they thought would be useful in combat. In 4e gods have the powers and abilities the DM wants them to have, they are not restricted by a stat block. That is the approach I take for 5e too. Personally, I love a...

Not in my game ;) Devils and Demons aren't trying to become gods in my game. They have power equivalent to gods, so what is the point. Asmodeus has the power of an intermediate god (I still use 3 tiers of godhood) in my game and so does Demogorgon. But Demogorgon is slightly more powerful than Asmodeus, just like 1e. I do like some historical context :) Personally, I pretty much ignore...

Since one of those orange posts admonishes us all not to discuss moderation decisions in-thread, I'm gonna leave it at that. :) Each spell level lets you target another creature, so if you cast it in a 4th-level slot, you can charm 4 people at once. It's amusing, but as an analogy misses the point. All of the pieces of a color are controlled by the same player - they are more like class features, not individual characters. The two players are balanced in features - the primary difference at the state of the game is who has initiative. :)

This is not a problem. The problem is that published modules never call for DC 30 checks, and only very rarely indeed DC 25. The problem is that published modules call for DC 10 checks. Everything about skills in official adventures is ridiculously easy, that's the problem. Once you set the DCs yourself, as you do, there is no problem.

What I mean is, what balance they do have is completely thrown under the bus if the DM allows various bonuses from spells, abilities, inspiration etc. The game is essentially set up so no PC will ever fail such a role, ever. (Or at least, what may look like a healthy 30% failure risk, say, is in reality more like a 3% or even 0.3% risk)

Because a DM balancing a min/max build without overwhelming the players with regular builds is actually a real challenge. If I was going to be snarky, I would make a comment along the lines of "if a DM doesn't know that, then maybe someone else should DM" - really it's easy to adjust your challenges to a group that on even keel, be it all min/maxed or all median, or all suboptimal. "Uncertain, cautious, and wary", the most common result, is 6 and it goes up and down from there. That doesn't necessarily mean there will be any conflict, so there may not be any rolls needed. The PC only rolls when there is conflict and the way I determine that is if I don't know...

IMO, that's a feature, not a bug. The Enchanter does eventually gain the ability to stealth charm people, but as a general rule I don't think charm should be the go-to move that a player pulls out anytime an NPC doesn't do what he or she desires. Charm spells shouldn't be an "I win" button that obviate social skills and the role playing of scenes.
