It was a Brit author (I think) and had to do with gang of zany adventurers who were total idiots. The bad guy in the first book was a baby who grew up really fast, something like that ..?

Well technically s Shildon is medium character so for mechanical purposes he can fit anywhere anyone else can but for flavour reasons I understand not wanting the giant fitting in the dwarves cottages. It's your call basically the workshop is the same design as the rest of the buildings.

And independently of all their life training they get their divine power swearing an oath and they can lose it not following the oath. I find it dumb. You are talking again about your setting, but the PHB is clear: "Divine magic, as the name suggests, is the power of the gods, flowing from them into the world. Clerics are conduits for that power, manifesting it as miraculous effects. The gods...

no problem! I like the Factions/Alliance cluster. If we are to have a name (and since we each have separate agendas, I'm not sure we need one), I'd suggest something along those lines. Miss Imogen would want something that did not advertise power and purpose. "A Bundle of Sticks" (unbreakable when together) is what she would suggest, if asked.

I would say that it proves my point. In order to mean what you're saying it does it would have to state "You are only making an attack if you are making an attack roll." That's not what it says. But now we're just repeating each other. We simply disagree.

After all throwing the holy hand grenade of Antioch would not be considered an attack since all it requires is that you count to three*, no attack roll required. Personally I think SC's are an impressive tool which can assist immensely in the social and exploration pillars. I feel they have largely been misunderstood and misused at tables mostly because much of the guidance for the mechanic was not properly thought out and explained well enough for its users. So most DM's fumbled with it (I know I did), growing increasingly frustrated before dropping it...

Too bad for them. The rules are made primarily to play well, and 'common sense' is way down the list. Go look at yourself in a mirror, and practice these: "No." "We stay with the rules as written." "That's not going to happen." It gets easier and easier over time.

By this time I feel the thread has collected much of the essential gotchas we need to take into account. Here's one more before it's time to create a first draft.
