Seething with righteous rage at the sight of the prisoners being attacked, Surina runs forward into the fray. As she does so, she yells "They are about to release the wolves. Hurry!" Sorry, was thinking Everett was before kobolds in initiative order. Surina will use the dash action, heading toward K5 & K6. I believe she can get to Q32 doing so

On the fighter/frog/metagaming thing: If you were reading a story and a witch turned the hero into a frog, and the herofrog (froghero?) by blind luck/serendipity/whatever happened to do something improbable that broke the spell and saved the day, wouldn't you enjoy that sort of unexpected twist to the story? Would you call that 'good storytelling'? So why wouldn't you want that in your...

It can work. It just depends on the campaign and the dm. You pretty much will always be hit when targeted and bards don’t have a lot of great defensive spells like shield to help in that area. If your dm will avoid targeteting your pc in combat because back line guy and all then you’ll be fine. If he will occassionly focus on you over the other party members then you’ll likely die as soon as...

CR is almost completely meant to be a measure of how much damage the Monster can a) dish out, and b) take. Your brownie can take none, and barely dishes out any either. By the guidelines in the DMG (Page 274) your brownie reaches the low end of CR 1/4, and based on my own experience homebrewing monsters, I'd peg it at CR 1/8 because it's hp are sooooo low.

But also, you can do different things in different editions. 3.5 is a little more LEGO-like, lots of fiddly bits and pieces to put together. 5E is more like Duplo, still bits and pieces, but less of them. 4E by comparison is lincoln logs, it's got similar...

I find it helps if you just don't think about what the player and character know about a particular thing. It's not useful information anyway except as needed by the DM to lay out the basic scope of options in the context of describing the environment. If the player describes the character as trying to recall something useful, the DM can narrate the result of that action (possibly calling for an...

It usually happens when a party's in town for some downtime, and instead of going day by day I'll go around the table and find out what the PCs are doing (if it's not already obvious e.g. training); and unless there's reason to worry about sequence or specifics it all just takes as long as it takes. Because I've been playing Command & Conquer mobile game Rivals... Wolverine Mk1 The Mk1 Wolverine is an anti-personnel headless mech with slab sided armour, two arms fitted with a chaingun each, and large ammunition supply mounted on the back. It is lightly armoured, but enough to protect against infantry weapons, has good speed to out run any infantry, but not very well equipped to combat...

If that is the problem, then you should be able to view the page once someone else posts. You could also try increasing the number of posts per page to reduce the overall page count.

Playing in D&D 5e I've had three characters die over 5th level: A 9th level Ancients Paladin was killed in a cutscene, a 12th level Shadow Sorcerer was killed by overwhelming odds trying to escape jail, and a 14th level Monk was killed off screen between sessions.

I went from the Basic Red box to Gurps and then back to DnD for 3e 3.5 (and Pathfinder) does what I need it to do, 4e was terrible so I stayed with 3.5 and 5e while good isnt different enough to warrant the change I'm tending more towards FateAccelerated now though

I enjoy stealing things from all sorts of settings. Want a desert area? Al-Qadim, Dark Sun, Dune, Tatooine. Need some cool magical devices? Eberron, Numenera/The Strange, Final Fantasy. There is inspiration and things to steal from everywhere. My PCs just ran across a couple Devout Paladins for a Church of Light, they don't know these paladins are copy/paste Stormcast Eternals.

Mike Mearls on the What Would the Smart Party Do podcast recently talked about how people don't like learning new rules. Outside of communities like this, I wonder how true that is? I can say of my couple gaming groups, all but one or two of my fellow group members have ever read a rpg rulebook, much less multiple.

Well, I don’t intend on picking monsters carefully. I intend on accurately telegraphing threat and leaving the decision how/if/when to engage to the players. IMO it isn’t appropriate to go “hey we’re doing lethal rules here” and have the players agree to that, and then put on some big nerf gloves before I start throwing punches. But we will definitely see in coming weeks how this holds up...

There's lots of paths to making a character. Sometimes starting with the build first and then tweaking it to suit your particular character is just what the doctor ordered.

If the group is planning their party together as part of a group exercise then it is your job to offer input on other players class choice. I think we should all assume he's doing something innocent like that until proven otherwise.

I didn’t really have any mitigating design rules in mind. When I set out to make the game more lethal, I didn’t intend players to stand-n-soak through combats. I fully intended them to carefully pick their battles, how they engage their enemies, etc. For instance the Valor Bard in the party is constantly saying, “if we do this right, only the fighter gets attacked.” And they try smack and...

The past update happened way way way earlier than anything else that we know about Shemeska's past history. Worth taking that into consideration as you're putting together a timeline. We'll revisit this most recent scene eventually and get a view of what was going on prior to and after her death there on the Waste, from the perspective of her killer, when it makes sense for the Storyhour to...

I disagree, the majority of systems IME don't even really talk about time. Gygax obsessed about it, but even 2e drops a lot of the mechanical baggage that 1e has around time. For example, the 10 minute turn is mentioned, but no movement rates are associated with it in 2e. Traveler, IMHO, simply calls all time periods "1 week" in strategic play because Marc Miller wanted an 'Age of Sail' feel to...

Application of Various Tasks: Most tasks will be applied during a combat situation, especially with less experienced players as this generates a better feel for the gaming system and allows for the expansion of knowledge for the practical use of tasks outside of combat. Combat is frequently the most entertaining part of the game, but it can grow stale if no task outside of a combat situation is...

How far away was it? They said it was a long way, on the edge of Union space and out of comms range. But in terms of travel time it seemed like it took an hour or so to get there? If they move that fast, nowhere is remote, really.

I found several full lapses in the writing. If the ship was milli-seconds away from being blown away, how can a kid not only walk off the ship so easily, but find and get access to the tunnels leading to the caves of the makers. Are they keeping the bones as a reminder (even thought even Isaac stated their memory banks will keep all the information.) Or is the resources needed to dump them...
