Given the bizarre and widely varied sexual interests found in the (reality) human race, I have to think there have been Dwarf-Halfling, uh, relationships. In one of the latest "Hobbit" movies, there was an Elf-Dwarf romantic interest developing. Perhaps there's some kind of physical incompatibility other than genetics. Do Halflings lay eggs?

Most everyone in my regular player pool are DMs or GMs. So I quite like getting their input on what we play next. Sometimes it's put forth as "I'd like to see what you can do with..." suggestions. That's a fun challenge for me to think about how I'd go about preparing and running someone else's ideas. It gives me some constraints to work under which are useful. Ultimately I pick what I'm going to...

Not really. 3.x's default tended to be dip in one class, everything else in another. 4e's default is 50/50. And with certain builds, 50/50 is nearly impossible or idiotic in 3.x because there's not really a good Prestige Class to make it work. Rogue|Cleric as an example. 4e? Elf with 18 Dex/Wis. Pick Dex Rogue powers and Wis Cleric powers. Done. Or be a Half-Orc with 18 Str/18 Dex and take all...

The customer is indeed the second party. What that means is that there are no "second party publishers" - as you note, customers generally don't publish anything. (There's probably a very small set of exceptions to this - those few people who went to the trouble of publishing something strictly for their own use. I wouldn't be surprised if there was someone in our hobby just obsessed enough to...

Since we are discussing character creation and worldbuilding, I will express one of the reasons my players and I have enjoyed Fate: character creation often explicitly builds the setting with player-made character/plot/setting hooks. When I say that "character creation builds the setting," I do not mean simply any implicit setting that results from the player choosing preexisting class, race,...

If yes, higher rating (that's why Flame Spiral is the best Sorcerer power, period). Alternatively- does it give you a damage instance without spending a standard action? 2) Does it damage more than one enemy? How many more? How efficiently?...

I can imagine that the Sea Elf Community would have an army. As for a halfelf Hexblade, I’m going to say that if you have a swim speed, you know how to handle being underwater and the extra weight from your armor doesn’t hinder you that much, so don’t worry about that. Are you going with the sea elf half elf Variant? It’s thematic, but the Gift of the Depths makes it not necessary.

Narrow motivation: defeat Sauron by casting the One Ring into the fires of Mount Doom. The former provides more opportunity for the player to become invested in the game (because he's chosen his goals for himself). The...

They work better than the ones for 3e, which were funky. And about as well as the ones for 4e. The thing is, those rules exist only because they were expected and for writing the published adventures, so they can be done "by the...

WotC is making everything they can to cram everything into every book: player's options, campaign material, and monsters. The idea is that a PHB2 would not sell to DMs, and a MM2 not to players. Amounting to lower sales. As long as us customers buy *everything* regardless of how low ratio we get, WotC has little reason to change.

The "doom clocks" I've encountered are in Marvel Heroic RP/Cortex+ Heroic, and in 4e (as skill challenges). The basic idea is that the players have to spend some action economy to dial the clock back and eventually defeat it; left to its own devices it steps up each round, and goes "BANG!" after the specified number of rounds. In the fiction, dialling the clock back might be rescuing a...

If the publisher in question is drawing on a WotC-licensed SRD, then that publisher is in a contractual agreement with WotC. What relationship is the 3PP a third party to? The only relatoinship I can see is that between WotC (the core publisher and licensor) and the consumer ie the community...
