Yeah, I seem to have slowed down again this year too. However, back in 2016 I made a conscious effort to paint at least one mini every single week (which wasn't always easy) ...but it resulted in this lot: ...which kinda made the whole thing worth while :) (I kinda wish I had recorded my progress here too - rather than just on my blog)

That entire world in D&D is presumed magical. You are trying to apply a modernist mindset that distinguishes between the mundane and the magical to a world that presumes a premodern worldview wherein the supernatural, magical, and irrational are infused into everything of the cosmos. Everything. In such a worldview, whether you are playing 0E-5E, there is no "just a mundane person" in this world....

I think telling them is fine, but CR is not a very straightforward indicator of threat beyond the so-rare-it-is-useless case of a solo monster. The XP value is better since at least those values are designed to be added together, but even then you need the encounter guidelines tables as well as some intuition about how far off they are, which itself varies between PC parties. Assuming the # of...

Meh. Barovia is a County, not a country. It has been ripped from the prime material plane as is. Nothing to say he is any kind of heir to whatever country his County belonged to. As for King’s this and King’s that - maybe guest rooms originally? As for King’s Accountant, perhaps every county had such a position to levy taxes ultimately for the King.

The group I play with is fine with penalties and rolling with disadvantage, after all its a game and plenty of other times u r penalized in D&D. Death rarely happens so when it does its ok it has some risk element to it

At my table, if you reach the edge of the battle map, you can use your action to successfully flee. It doesn't...

Changing ability scores mid-game is a huge PITA, so instead of Con damage, consider just reducing the character's maximum hit points instead. I'd base the reduction on the damage dealt past 0; e.g., if you are at 3 HP and take 15 points of damage your max HP would be reduced by 12. This avoids any sort of "death spiral" penalties (you can still adventure just fine if your max HP are reduced --...

But they certainly aren’t playing by the rules either. Are they cheating or not? From their perspective probably not. But from any outside observer? I’d say yes they are.

A thing to remember about morale breaking is that it's not a rational, calculated withdrawal (although for some extremely disciplined foes it might) -it's a rout. People flee, unit cohesion is lost, and it may be *more* dangerous for the foes fleeing than standing and fight - but they are panicking. So even though it may not make sense (due to archers etc), they do it anyway. The surrender...

I think it makes it pretty engaging that a character, despite the tremor in their hands and the feeling of falling in their gut, faced by their most fearsome foe, still manages to prevail — or is utterly beaten and needs to come to terms with their failure. To me that’s more engaging than just “running away” or “failing to attack due to said fear.” I’m still not seeing how voluntary disadvantage...

After you finished the robot you discovered someone was ram-shaking Human Inc. and got into a battle with a bunch of villains there. The Shadow beat up on who called himself the Electrocutioner while the rest were battling a bunch on a lower floor of the skyscraper :)

I can't see the posts you refer to as that poster has me blocked, but I would say a couple of things about the above. What the player gains in the latter case is the ability to make DM calls, at least in this case, which isn't desirable to someone like me who prefers players and DMs stay in their prescribed roles. As well, I don't see why the mechanic necessarily makes for a more engaging story....

I also noticed one more thing on Juno Reyes... the Ares Predator has the Smartgun Link which she does not have but the link also includes a Laser Sight. While the bonus do not stack, if you don't have the Smartgun link you get the Laser Sight bonuses (+1 gear bonus to hit, and reload 1s with damage rolls).

I think the mistake it to assume the default is "fight to the death." Perhaps the default is, 'Fight until the GM thinks they'd surrender or run." The optional rule is for GMs who want a mechanistic way to decide the question, rather than leave it up to personal judgement.

I've updated Diggs. I'm thinking Diggs will get along with this new Troll just fine. Except that he's a rusting magic user. He'll try his hardest to make the boy see the light and get some proper cyberware implanted.

5ekyu makes a great point here that I did not consider - if the player has full control of attacking or doing nothing or running away, attacking with disadvantage would not give them anything they did not already possess, and it also makes for a more engaging story. I was listening to a recent episode of the Glass Cannon Podcast (those guys are the “Critical Role” of Pathfinder, I highly...

Sure Repair kit sounds good Sounds good about the low INT Yes it should say reduces the Magic Point cost by 1 (Minimum 1) Yes the overcaster is rough mostly as it is something that is suppose to be rare or emergency. Yes without Stun it limits some options, but I might reduce the damage to a d4 per Magnitude but we will see. First draft looks good BTW

The assumption stated was narrowly defined and not exclusive or exhaustive. You may also note that I did not refer in any way to the type of challenge at which a player might want to "win." A player may wish to achieve success in all three pillars, not just combat. I also did not assert that "you can only present flaws in ways that don't negatively impact combat." I only said that you can do it,...

Yep. Take your meta-gaming characters, stick them on a railroad, throw in some GNS theory, and then stand way back.

What I do is create a LINE chat (LINE is a chat app, sort of like Facebook Messenger, but much cleaner, and more stable) for my campaign; it's all OOC stuff. People can look at it on their cell phones. And I just make polite comments, such as, "Still waiting for Respen to respond. Once he does, I will post the treasure list from the last encounter." or maybe something like: "Just made a new post!...

Hey GK, since he's a go-ganger "Criminal", can he change his tool proficiency to Repair Kit (for yee old monster hog)? By the way, I figure his low INT is based on his utter lack of formal schooling rather than a lack of intelligence as such. Mentor spirit bonus c: "Reduce MP cost to 1"; I'm guessing this should say "by 1" instead (or else: "Mentor Spirit booyah!" :) )? The damage for...

Right, the boon system IS a magic item construction system as well. You complete an adventure to find the mystic ingredients/unknown ritual/master smith/whatever and the reward is your new item!
