Ignoring the bag for the time being, the Seekers move on along the path on the western side of the lake in the hidden valley. The path drifts more upland and away from the lake a bit as it continues. At a point that the party estimates to be about the middle of the lake, the path splits. The path that the party is on continues southward following the lake and drifts back toward it. The adjoining...

Easiest to manipulate and modify, etc... Group 1 is going for the Sunless Citadel, where in Realms is a good place for this? Group 2 is going for the Forge of Fury, where in the Realms is a good place for this?

Personally, I strongly dislike systems where the pcs get to decide what magic items they find. If you're using some kind of item creation system then I think it's justified, but just happening to find exactly the items that you want as you describe leaves me cold. But I prefer random treasure a la 1e, where you never know what kind of item you'll get. I don't want each pc to have exactly the...

You guys ever hear of Gygaxian Naturalism? Hit the link for the full story, but here's what's got me curious: Do you ever put overpowered monsters in the party's path? For example, is it ever possible for a party of level 4 dudes to encounter an adult red dragon? And if so, how do you impress upon your PCs that fighting might not be the answer? (Comic for illustrative purposes.)

I disagree with that. Take this example: Cleric casts Healing Word on downed PC. PC now has a few HP but is still prone. The PC is attacked by 2 creatures with Multiattack. They have advantage. 1 hit to knock the PC to 0, 2 more to kill the PC. Even if they only get 2 hits, the PC just needs 1 failure to die. Death spirals are a thing in 5e. Many low CR creatures are deadly when the...

Thanks again! I missed these exceptions. In the case where i was looking to apply it, they were trying to use Accelerate (Displace 5, for an extra action) and Speed Flurry (Displace 4, for 2 attacks in one action) to be able to stand still and make 4 attacks a round for 1 minute. Maybe this is allowed, but it seemed awfully powerful for some Grade 6 character.

Good question! I think my original idea was any shield, but it would make more sense to get a bigger bonus for a bigger shield. Maybe add the shield value again (yes I know it is then added 2x, but on the defense, shields are really good!) It might be too much, but that is why I am looking for some feedback. :)

These are apparently exclusive to local game stores, so you won't find it on Amazon. Note the older cover core set gets a gift box as well!

So don't get it. This isn't hard. If you can't justify it to yourself, don't get it. If you can justify it as a collector or as a gift, then get it. If you want books that match your other 5e collector's edition books or that fit alongside your collector's editions from 3e and 4e, then you can also get it. If none of those apply, then this simply isn't for you and doesn't affect you in any way.

Correct. In the game that success translates into the PC seeing a hider with normal vision. In the real world, following the game mechanics as described in the PHB2, it goes more-or-less like this: Y's player rolls a Perception check, and X's player rolls (or has already rolled) a Stealth check. The roll for Y beats the roll for X, and so Y's player succeeds on the opposed check. Hence X is...

Those daily abilities don't have to be hoarded/preserved., though. The "adventuring day" might involve one encounter, or a dozen, and it makes no difference to game balance. If the players all nova in the first encounter of the day, this doesn't allow wizards to outshine fighters. It's purely about pacing. Whereas other editions (and 13th Age) depend for balance upon an "adventuring day" that...

Good catch, I'll make an edit. I meant level 10. To some extent, it seems like a disagreement over which tastes worse, lima beans or liver. They are both bad. The reason I think Power Surge is a slight bit better is flexibility. Potent Cantrip is only providing damage if we assume that: 1: You are casting a save or take damage cantrip in combat 2: The enemy fails their save 3: This...

I prefer in character speaking but I don't enforce it in a draconian way but if I did because that was my preferred playstyle what would be wrong with that? You see setting up a game with a set of preconditions is not wrong. I got perhaps two people offering genuine advice. The rest are just bent out of shape that I dare play in a way that doesn't suit their model of good right fun. ...

I think players need to know they're in a skill challenge if they're going to make reasoned choices about what resources to use (eg powers, action points, equipment, etc). In that respect I think the comparison to combat is apt. I don't see resolution as something separate from the "real" game.

For those houserules who just move the 2nd attack to the attack Action thereby granting an "extra" Bonus Action i would only allow a dagger as offhand weapon, which also does not get + damage due to atttribute. Remember that some of the classes who might use twf frequently are rogue or ranger, their Bonus Action is really needed for dash/hide , hunters mark etc. They are computed around having...

A predictable 'best' - the 1E Dungeon Masters Guide - without doubt the greatest RPG book ever published, it was a mess, but just so utterly inspirational, and full of juicy nuggets throughout. (it just took a while to find them ;) ). Honourable mentions to modules U1, UK4 and WG4. - 2E - another vote for the Complete Thieves Handbook, a lesson in how all the 'Complete' Books should have...

Re: xp for g.p. and other delights: Even though I've been DMing 1e (or close) for ages I've never given xp for g.p. Maybe I should, but even if I did it'd never represent all the xp, just a smallish portion. To the OP I suggest mixing it up. Give some xp for treasure (including stolen, to those who did the stealing!), give some xp for combat, give some xp for intentionally avoiding...

We finish our speeches for the upcoming press conference and agree to let the public focus on Delft as he's head of the RHC and the executive trio of Mr. Carlyle, Ms. Auryn and Mr. Maloney. This way, we hope to draw the attention of the Kell guild away from the regular officers and the other RHC teams...

Except I don't see a narrator as actually having a character role in the show itself, with the exception of when the narration is done in character by a character who legitimately-within-the-show's-fiction could do it - example: Galadhriel, in character, narrating over the beginning of the first LotR movie. I mentioned this as an unusual possibility that somebody's likely tried. And there...
