Yup. I have a house rule for falling damage that does more damage per foot but allows a creature to negate damage up to the value of an acrobatics check. Rantle jumped off the 20 foot roof, risking up to ~15 points of damage, but he stuck the landing. That and his dashing good looks and swagger caused Dro'marri (or more likely his player) to declare, "I already hate this guy." :)

I dunno. "I'm going to wipe out half the population of the universe to save it" isn't exactly the most rational of ideas. Do we really need to be explicitly told that Thanos isn't running on all eight cylinders? Then again, apparently so since people have actually argued that this idea might actually have any merit. :uhoh:

Nevermind the whole mount issue, I'm not actually sure how easy it is to ride a steed in combat while both your hands are busy with lances. That said, if it is that easy to ride a horse without holding onto it, then by all means, go for it! Just make sure not to have too much cheese in your...

But the lack of mechanics in D&D for the players adding story to the “DM’s” world doesn’t stop that from happening. It’s been going on since Rob Kuntz added El Raja Key to Greyhawk...or even since Gygax added Castle Greyhawk to Arneson’s Blackmoor game! There’s no algorithm at play here dictating the DM’s control-as-referee over world-as-program. If the players have an idea what they want,...

It is more OBVIOUS, and there are less options presented, but the structure is pretty similar and there's nothing inherently simpler about the rules, for the most part. Character generation has about an equal number of choice points, there are simply less options at each one, and some of them more heavily constrain you. I think in some cases this makes...

"Some naga do have magic powers," Shayuri mentions as she comes over to where the assailants have surrendered. "I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with them to know offhand whether or not this type does. A little research would reveal much." She looks back at the unmoving, black coils. "They also live a very long time, and are often set as guardians by powerful creatures. Hm." One might...

Its more other people who mention it on other pots they claim the game doesn;t work but then they always seem to be using feats. The encounter guidelines work OK for low levels and for newer players I suppose, theres nothing wrong with them as such. I don't expect them to work that well with feats, multiclassing and power gamers. Its not a deal breaker or anything. Some people round here...

Be any caster that can take lightning bolt at level 5. After reaching level 5 take 2 levels into tempest cleric. If you aren't running out of spells in the adventuring day then take 2 levels of fight after that. If you are get a few more levels in whatever primary caster you chose. A few good choices: Divination Wizard - (forcing a failed save on a max damage lightning bolt is delightful)...

Reading through the class guides, most give this spell a poor rating which I don't understand. I know it is a Con save which is not a good save to go against, but if the the creature fails the first save, it is restrained until it succeeds on 3 saves. Its not like other spells in which once it saves the spell is done. While it is restrained, it has a speed of 0. That dragon or whatever...

spitzig started a thread gaming for a 3 year old
I've been tabletop RPing for about 15 years. I'd like to get my three year old son interested in it. I've never DMed, so have doubts about trying to homebrew a simpler version of D&D or something. One person suggested I give specific options like a choose your own adventure book. So far, the best option seems to be "Amazing Tales". 4 is the starting suggested age. 99% of parents seem to think...

I'm looking for players to join my homebrewed "Home Sweet Home" Hârn campaign (HârnMaster 3, Kaldor) at Game Kastle (Fremont or Mountain View) in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you know anyone who likes to join then let me know. The players can be from completely newbies to well experienced players. The goal is to run the game once a month. The campaign is set in Kaldor and the characters are...

Rodrigo spends a hit dice hit dice on top of the falls: 1D10+2 = +2 = 4 Rodrigo, once on top of the waterfall, drank some water and started doing stretching exercise so he wouldn't get knots after the fight. His father had shown him that for such injuries it was important to keep flexible and nibble. He was troubled though - how many of these undead monsters were they? This fight had...

Same here - the astral plane is basically hyperspace, allowing fast travel between distant points. There are gith, but other beasts as well.

This seems like an odd thought. I have my campaign world sure, but there are also a variety of ideas that I have that don't take place there. Like an all-Drow evil campaign. Or a Ravenloft campaign. Or wild-west campaign. And there are some settings that do a lot of the legwork for me (I'm not very interested in reinventing the Underdark, for example). I'm gonna stroke my own ego here...

The kids look at you and say He's this big! They say opening up the hands to show you its an arm span across and about two feet high. The creature is about the size of a dog. It's a dog with big teeth, but that doesn't mean it wants to bit. If it hasn't eaten a kid, then it most likely won't bit you, unless you make it....
