Dain seemed to agree with the cleric's plan easily enough. Better for him to make contact with the fugitive, as he was an outsider anyway. He probably had much less of a reputation in the village, and thus had far less to lose than the half-orc acolyte. Snatching up his backpack, he took off at an angle to intercept the fleeing woman...or girl. It was hard to tell which. As he turned, regret...

Here is a chart for approximate conversions between d20 rolls and 3d6 rolls: A short little explanation in in order. For everything we'd ordinarily roll a d20 for we roll 3d6s instead, not just any 3d6s but specifically 2d6 consisting to two white dice plus 1 red d6, you add them up normally to get the result, but for the middle range, you consult the red die if there are two possible d20...

So in the context of SW, you are speaking of the "roll to beat a TN 4 or higher" mechanic? Mainly from the observation that you had a game system that spoke to your needs and preferences prior to the publication of Fate. So there would be little need for Evil Hat to make Fate to suit the needs or preferences of people who already prefer the d20 system of D&D 3.X. There is neither need for...

There's no published 5e material for the Realms I'm aware of that compels a paladin to solely worship a god they've pledged an Oath to. Even if there were, entering into an agreement with a Warlock Patron is not necessarily curtailing on your worship of a god. It's a business arrangement, power for fealty, much like feudalism. So the Player's Handbook is setting neutral, so that if they decide to put out settings like Eberron which I hear is different from the other D&D settings, they wouldn't have to put out a new PHB for that. However, FR seems to be the only setting they are working on, and this how it works within the realms. If you're doing a homebrew, and you want your paladins to have an oath to nothing, then...

I don't remember it being true in the Work of Greyhawk, but admittedly my memory is fuzzy and my knowledge of the setting -- such as it is -- comes from the AD&D box set and classic modules from that era. Come to think of it, I don't think it holds true for Eberron, either, to cite a more recent D&D world. Regardless, even if it's a common premise in published settings, a lot of people...

They give an Oath to one god. That's it, according to 5e. Clerics most likely provide sole worship to a single deity but there's nothing binding a paladin to such a commitment. Is it common? Sure, probably, like the Bane worshipers you mention. Is it clad in iron? No.

Could you link the source for that claim please? Because I'm not entirely sure about Greyhawk, but I'm certain that Eberron's gods don't work like that. The Sovereign Host: the 'gods' of the setting (as opposed to other divine powers capable of being a cleric's deity) are unreachable and uncontactable, and definitely don't pass judgement on mortals like the FR gods do.

And I've addressed that. But clerics and Paladins are different since they get their powers from 1 god only. While clerics and Paladins acknowledge other deities, they only worship the one they serve. A normal person pays homage to whichever god is pertinent to their situation. For example, a fisherman may say a prayer to the goddess of the sea before going out to catch his fish. When he...

As a Paladin all you provide is an Oath. If it's an Oath to a god there's nothing restricting you to hold only that god as worthy of worship. Many D&D worlds represent polytheistic cultures but most players can only view that through a monotheistic lens. They see people only choosing one god to worship among a menu of options. Truth is, in polytheism, you recognize, if not worship, many gods.

I wonder if its an issue of the monk feeling weak from levels 1-4. There's a case for that: your AC is probably low, you don't have stunning strike, and your ki points are pretty limited. You probably do feel pretty weak compared to a fighter in those levels. If that's the case, you could go for a more targeted fix. Have to be thoughtful about multiclassing though. Would it be crazy to...

After finishing off the earth cultists on this floor, you're made aware that apparently Sir Marcus Dent has joined with them. He and the leader of the earth cult, Marios Urnrayle, have made their way to some place below called "The Fane of the Eye." There are routes to this place in each of the four elemental temples, and the party has passed by each of them in turn. From the air temple the...

Good stuff. As I just said, my instinctive solution to stacking bonuses is to treat everything that isn't armor as a premium bonus category (since it stacks with armor). I realize that isn't unproblematic (since +1 armor +1 shield +1 ring of protection still costs less than a single +3 item). I hope things like hand use and attunement slots is enough for it to hold together if only...

Should the pay rate be $0.04 or 0.04 dollars per word ($40 per article)? As written it is 0.04 cents an article. 0.04 cents = 4/10th of a penny = $0.40.

Ana clears the underbrush around her and then takes a defensive stance. (Dodge if you allow it with the brush clearing on the same turn.)

I don't always play in a published setting, but when I do, I play in Eberron. (Right now, we're playing in my 20 year old homebrewed setting, but next DnD game will take place back in Eberron, which is the group default setting of choice).

"None of you have any sense." Oskeld picks up the ale he had been nursing and downs the rest of it in a single swallow. "I will come along. But I don't work for you, lady. You can pay them. But I don't work for you."

The monk's defining ability is Stun. Stun locking is as dangerous to a Demon Lord as any fighter. Sure, they might get Legendary Resistances but a Monk can pump out 4 Stuns a turn. And being stunned in the 5e is just a short way from death.

Created an account to say your sheets are the best. The C&D is understandable... but I still hope you find a way to keep putting them out. Maybe reddit or something. D&d beyond is trash, and WotC is known for legal action vs actually putting money and effort intp their digital products.

Insert montage of the party traveling side by side with the good-natured frost giant Harshnag as they banter back and forth and gradually make their way to the SPine of the World Mountains while do-gooding and wrecking the occasional evil giants. Mountains of ice and black rock form a sky-scraping wall of frigid peaks across the far north, which few creatures have the ability to surmount....

I'm with the "If you build it, they will come" crowd - in other words run a game. Player ecosystems are self-reinforcing. If the only games in town are PF, people play PF. If you want to try to make it catch on so you get a chance to play, make sure to invite a few DMs. Because next time they start a new game it'll be in their wheelhouse and it could be picked. EDIT: And yeah, there are...

So, here's the thing. The Monk isn't supposed to be the pure damage dealer that (say) the Fighter is. But the Monk has other abilities. To start with, the Monk doesn't need to wear armor, or have weapons to be combat-ready. That may be a "niche" ability, but, in the right circumstances (captured, ambush in a social setting, etc.), it is amazing. The monk is wholly-self sufficient without...

Agreed, since I've learned that assumptions can bite you in the butt, especially when it comes to plot or creature motivations. Assume that an antimagic field stops beholder eye rays (if your character has a reasonable chance of knowing that), not that the beholder happens to be hostile or less than hostile because of reasons (so far as a player I have meet 2 beholders, with 1 using us as...

No, you’re right in that regard. That’s not my area of concern....I realize that the characters and events in the story are most likely extraordinary (though not always, as Lanefan points out). But I mean more from the player and GM view. If everyone is “playing to find out”, then I don’t know how much room there may be for surprise when you all know that Tim’s patron will somehow tie into Bob’s...
