Considering it kept Asherah from death, that’s probably good idea! The old man, who’s name is Reginald, seems to hesitate before answering in Sylvan. “The Hercules are not bad people. Um, far from it. They do much for the town. But they aren’t perfect. Lady Hercule is, shall we say, a free spirit, and Lord Hercule can be harsh with those who cross him, but it usually takes the form of...

The assumed basic setting of D&D5 is FR if I'm not mistaken. Most high level spellcasters should be dead due to cataclysms so lower level spellcasters would be in high demand. Even an apprentice wizard would be contracted by governments, mercenary groups and rich individuals to cast all their spells until the PCs are high level enough to create a continual flame spell shop for themselves. After...

And even if not, I’ll not let them roast in their sleep.”

We should hear more about D&D settings later today (including possible confirmation of the Ravnica setting), but it looks like Eberron is on the cards! There's no sign at present of a hardcover setting book like Ravnica, but it has been added to the list of settings available to Dungeon Masters Guild publishers. At least, not in the terms and conditions at the moment, but in the back-end settings...

Things slow down in combat, obviously, but we often use the Savage Worlds Quick Combat rules for some of them.

If I were a betting woman, my money would be on tomorrow’s UA being the latest iteration of the Psion and/or the Artificer, out for one final round of feedback before going into an Eberron hardcover in early 2019.

As soon as the tentacles formed they disappeared as the new arrival intones a scripture "Oghma the Binder is my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge! Your foul magic cannot hold us and disappears in the enlightment of knowledge! Begone!" The spell never manifests and two tomes fly out from Amitiel slamming into the captain and...

In my experience "knowing" is not necessary. They only have to be aware that it's likely or possible. In other words, as long as they dont think pace is meaningless and they can rest freely, the pressure is there and choices adjust. That is easy to create plausibly in a great many events. But I make no bones about it and have no problem with pcs taking tests as they want... whether they...

The “selling your soul” was just an example. Your idea of the patron granting them without their knowledge is also a cool one. My point is that there is theoretically a benefit to the warlock’s patron, whether the character chooses to remain a warlock or not. Whereas in Realmslore, and sometimes D&D lore, editors gain power through active faith and worship. The relationship is different. A...

I rogue with a 2d6 back stab at level 12 instead of 6d6 .... sure their is no loss there. A fighter with 2 attacks instead of 3 attacks per action at level 12 .... sure their is no loss there. A wizard that cast higher than 2nd level spells even thought they have 6 level spell slots .... sure their is no loss there. Its almost if your bias against multi-classing an don't see how the...

As I said in the other thread, the question is now whether we're just going to see DMs Guild and PDF support, or whether, once the psionic and artificer rules are set, we'll be seeing something more substantial in the way of an actual published book. I have a feeling that once the necessary rules are in place (with a likely rules expansion book early next year for new classes and races), we'll be...

And this will just feed the fire for those who say it should never happen. If your players don’t trust you to be a good judge of when to use a discretionary tool, then you probably shouldn’t be using it. I get what you’re saying, nobody knows that you’re using it. But that goes squarely against my assertion that it is not dishonest. If they think you aren’t using it, but you are, I would...

The one responsible for determining whether something makes sense in any given world is the designer. In most case, the setting designer is also going to be the DM. The player may very well may have a plausible excuse for why a paladin could multiclass into warlock, but only the DM knows whether that explanation actually makes sense in their world.

One thing that can make a difference is knowledge. The party may, or may not, know how "long" the adventure is. They could have caught up with the thief at encounter 2... or encounter 15. When a party *knows* that there will be a *long* time (and lots of encounters) before rest is possible, then they play differently. The cleric blew a 4rth level slot to cast confusion on the first...

That's not how any of this works (RAW). If you "surprised" the bear, the ogre and the archer, they would NO LONGER BE SURPRISED when you finally get to take your turn. They'd miss taking their actions, that is all.

There was a discussion about MtG magic and D&D awhile back. After careful consideration, I think color should replace/modify alignment. In this case, you might go one further and have guild replace alignment. I must also add that I can't comprehend the resent about a new setting. Just makes no sense at all to me. Is way rather have a new thing than an old one rehashed, especially with the...
