Hey, I'm not arguing anything. It's just my life's mission to point out this fact repeatedly when discussing gods in 5e. Well, it's more like one of my life's continuing side quests. My life's mission is to top the Laughs columns. I'm almost there. I'm topping the Laughs Given by quite a wide margin over Tony Vargas and I'm closing in on him for Laughs Received. Once I catch him, its just...

Same with an avatar. You can destroy the avatar, but it doesn't say that the power is destroyed. Since it's just a projection of the power of the deity, presumably that power goes back to the god who is now perturbed that the avatar was killed.

Man, these arguments hurt me because there's this weird thing where everyone tries to map a normal distribution onto a flat distribution via +/-. It's wrong in a technical way. But, I'm an engineer, so that's probably just my bag. That said, the above is the right wrong way to do it Retreater, billd91. Except nobody is arguing that the DM can't change the fluff. :) That page in the DMG is about the DM altering things for his world. And it's right, it doesn't matter what he chooses to alter, so long as it's fun for the players.

I can only agree with the last posts: Try the smaller Chaos Scar adventures from Dungeon magazine (if you have access to them). Works good for casual groups because there isn't a big engulfing meta story that your players have to memorize. Even though I absolutely love Zeitgeist, it's nothing I would confront casual players with. Too complex. The Scales of War path is also okay. Really depends...

It boils down to this yes or no question. If I were to play a cleric in your game, could I be a cleric of a god that is benevolent and intrusive as allowed by the PHB? I think you'll avoid that question, but I'm asking it anyway. Yes. Every monster is intended to be encountered. Otherwise it wouldn't be in the books to be encountered. The DM chooses which monsters from those intended...

Another clever combo would be the Tavern Brawler feat and the Crossbow Expert feat. Using the shield as a weapon with the Attack action would give you a bonus action attack with the hand crossbow, which would be pretty slick. Edit: Although, since you could get the same number of attacks with just Crossbow Expert, I suppose using the shield as a weapon would only be advantageous if you want to...

Two-weapon fighting would not normally apply to using a shield as a weapon, because improvised or not it wouldn't be a "light melee weapon." The Dual Wielder feat would remove this limitation and let you use the shield with two-weapon fighting, and the Tavern Brawler feat would let you apply your proficiency bonus to the attack. The Two-Weapon Fighting fighting style would let you apply your stat...

I believe the OP is talking about using a shield as an Improvised Weapon (PHB 147-148) and attacking with it using two-weapon fighting (PHB 195). Though since it's unlikely a shield would be counted as a light weapon it would require the Dual Wielder feat (PHB 169). All of that looks like it's by the rules.

The answer's in the official Sage Advice Compendium as well: http://dnd.wizards.com/sage-advice-compendium You keep the AC bonus. All the rules require (PHB, page 144) is to wield a shield. That's it.

Yes, we've been deleting them all day. It's exhausting! Some glitch somewhere with the news article scheduler we haven't found yet.

You keep asserting that. But you haven't said anything to convince me. Again, I think it is a mistake to look at someone from outside their own culture and assume you know how that culture influences their works and how their works reflect their beliefs. You are acting as if you have special access to this outsider or self aware perspective. No one is saying a person's culture doesn't...

I really do enjoy quoting a certain paragraph from page 10 of the DMG: And it goes on to say that association can even be a null pointer without causing a compilation or runtime error.

I try to be mindful of the things that go into AC when I describe a miss. "You caught it on your shield," or "You got past his guard, but glanced off his armor." I basically layer it DEX, then armor, then shield. I think it helps players understand what their hit target number is. For a "touch" attack, I either do it as a grapple where defense has to be dex (acrobatics,) or I take the to-hit...

Try selecting the Eldritch Blast cantrip first. It should then show up as an option.

I don’t know if anyone else is dealing with this, but the General Roleplaying Games Discussion board is full of threads started by talien that have the same title as LongGoneWriter’s post reviewing Starfinder’s Alien Archives 2. They all say the same thing: I am on the desktop site on my iPhone, if that somehow makes a difference.

During this time, Kalorn had a few things to say to a few people First, he conveyed his appreciation and respect to the northerners "I see that Imani was very wise in choosing your ship - our chances of success will be much greater than with a big lumbering sailing ship - add to that the courage and experience of your crew and we'll be fine" He did his best to help prepare - he was no...

I am currently playing an Aarakocra monk in a ToA campaign. The DM and I agreed that I could only carry party members who are Small. Likewise, I can only attempt to grapple/drop Small enemies. It just makes sense. I am a long time DM and know when to “limit” my character’s flight so as not to trivialize exploration or obstacles.

They influence your world-view, which in turn influences your politics. I'll give you that people are probably not self aware, but then again that's just re-stating they live in an insulated microcosm. Except for those of us who are from somewhere else, or are self aware, or have situational awareness, something; we can see.

Congratulations, you just quoted text that supports how Eberron's clerics and deities fall within the "gamut" of flavor text that the 3e cleric supports. That does not mean that a campaign must have these other varieties and that not encountering them changes the cleric. It means that depending on your campaign (and deities therein), the nature of deities will vary. I'm glad that I can help you...
