In my opinion, they don't get enough flak for this waiting game. Folks, waiting means doing nothing, giving us nothing. There's nothing positive about it. It mostly means WotC can keep staff costs down.

Not to speak for Iserith here, but I’m pretty sure you’re misunderstanding what they meant by the word “approach.” You’re describing the approach the DM uses to resolve actions. Iserith, unless I’m very much mistaken, is referring to the approach the PC uses to attempt to achieve their goal. The rules don’t say what approach or approaches to the goal of jumping an unusually long distance have...

Good. So you do have opinions. Great! Now, let us discuss them, instead of hiding behind WotC's decisions. By that I mean that if you're prepared to stand by YOUR opinion that the Beastmaster is great, that's a good basis for further discussion. What's entirely useless OTOH is saying the class is great because WotC's numbers says it is, or because WotC needs the issue to go away.

In a campaign setting with any depth whatsoever you'll never hit "On failure, the story is over" as there's always going to be another story out there somewhere. "On failure, the mission is over" or "On failure, the adventure is over" is seen by some as a problem, but usually not by me. I look at it more as if they fail, they fail; and depending on the overarching situation that failure may...

Thank you Jester. I agree to almost everything: preserving class identity is a big one. The soul and heart of D&D lies in having distinct classes. Generally PF2 appears unimpressive. They seem to have entirely forgotten that most gamers will assume and expect Paizo to have solved all the things 5E solved. In this regard, PF2 feels like an unhappy throw-back to an earlier era.

That's hugely amusing! I was responding to an assumption that I thought you were making, which is that a check would be needed to jump say Strength in feet (being a value included in "up to Strength"). It seems we were in fact in furious agreement that a check is only called for (under Athletics) when a character wants to cover more than that distance! The shortcut I use to find DCs is...

I dislike that proficiency is used as a gate for feats rather than a means to advance in skill. As it is an untrained fighter with a little luck can pass the average DC for a master thief to sneak so long as they are the same level. I feel like characters can only really specialize in combat since the designers seem to want everyone able to act while exploring.

But hiding behind just one guy (or a barrel) is not enough - at least not more than once. If there is an ambush, and the halfling was...

He no longer updates it, but it is an amazing gaming tale and describes how to do high level right IMO. It has been all collected in one thread by Cheiromancer called Tales-of-Wyre. It is a given that Sepulchrave II is an amazing writer and story teller, but it is at truly an epic level...

Yes, indeed, I would call it a practice. It would work that way in HoML terms as well where basically it serves to provide an alternate fictional positioning (a wizard would disenchant, a rogue would swindle, the net result is pretty much the same).

I once had a "power suit" that I gave a player character. It worked similar to Ironman's armor, or a Hulk Buster suit. The only thing the character had to do was Attune to it using all 3 Attunement slots. It was pretty powerful. He could fly, had Resistance to various damage types, could breathe in space and underwater, and could shoot ki blasts just to name some features.

Interesting, so the Eberron Season allows mix and match from just three books: the PHB, the Wayfarers Guide, and Xanathar's Guide. So, you can use XGtE subclass options, but no With or Goblin PCs in Eberron Season One.

I built an Artificer class hat had two subclasses. One built constructs that walked around with the hero, and the other built constructs that walked around with the man inside. I gave the man inside three quarters cover. He was lashed into the device, effectively making him immune to most strength saving throws. However constitution, wisdom, charisma and intelligence saves generally impacted...

Well so many great authors and since David Gemmell is not listed among them I think we should call it a draw. Anderson, Poul 20 Bellairs, John 20 Brackett, Leigh 20 Brown, Frederic 20 Burroughs, Edgar Rice 20 Carter, Lin 20 de Camp, L. Sprague 20 de Camp & Pratt 20

Everyone is more than entitled to an opinion, and personally I love Tolkien and have read the Silmarilion many times and think it is great, but if you are going to criticise something as 'crime against readers and literacy' you should at least get the spelling right or your argument loses all credibility.

Remember, by default, you can't even attempt to grapple a creature that's more than one size larger than you. Halflings can grapple humans, and humans can grapple ogres, but a halfling will never succeed at grappling an ogre. As long as you're only grappling a human, though, both halflings and humans are on equal footing. It's a lot like the rules for heavy weapons. Halflings can use...

Verisimilitude. I like my games to make sense and be logical. Without some supernatural capabilities, if someone can clearly see the rogue they probably are going to. The idea of a halfling popping out successfully from behind the fighter round after round is sillier than I want to deal with. Which, again, does not mean the rogue can't hide and snipe on a pretty regular basis. It just...

In this case the Paper Warrior was originally a Shugenja, a divine spellcasting class. The 1E Oriental Adventures version is more-or-less a cleric with a few monklike martial arts abilities bolted on. EDIT: Oh, and the Seven Swords were all human before they were cursed to become undead.

They've stated that 5e is rulings over rules. The DMs rulings override any rules in the book, and while the rules are tight in many areas, they are vague in many more. I think a lot of that vagueness is intended. I was under the impression that we were debating what is meant by jumping an unusual distance under the athletics section. The jump section just helps define the parameters...

In the updated player guide there has been a change to trading, the items now not only have to be the same rarity, the items have to be from the same table. "Permanent magic items can be traded on a one-for-one basis for items of the same rarity from the same magic item table in the Dungeon Master’s Guide. "

The rules do say the latter. The jump rules state that your strength determines how far you can jump. Not how far you can jump without a roll. Not how far you can jump without effort. It doesn't offer more, so that's as far as you can go unless you do something that would allow you to go unusually far via an athletics check.

I might go a different route then polymorph effect, but the idea itself is what I had in mind. Something like: "Iron Man.The the pilot is immune to all damage and effects while inside the Jauggernaut Armor(what I'm calling this thing)."
