I'm not sure how much you've played in tier 3 or higher, but at this stage, monsters are usually either huge or bigger, have range, magic, or ranged attacks. There usually isn't an advantage of being 10ft. away from a lot of creatures.

The way I see it, in most cases, the fantasy races age to adulthood at the same rate as the human races, but live adult lives in a much longer span than humans. So they may all be children and teenagers together, but once they become adults, dwarves and elves will quickly see lifelong friends of theirs dying of old age, which they still have quite a ways to go.

Yes, but the whole point of using BB with a reach weapon is to put the target in a situation where he has to move do do anything useful. Against a target where that isn't true (for instance, someone with a good ranged attack), certainly you would not use the BB combo.

But that assumes the target moves every time. But the more likely scenario would be the target moves 1 time, if it doesn't die, gets smart to the situation and stops moving assuming this is an intelligent creature. Or if it does die, its allies get smart to the situation and knows not to move. Then your average goes down.

I was introduced to the game 40 years ago, but spent a couple decades away from the game too. My dad brought home the Basic boxed set and he DM'd for my brother & I. I first rolled the dice in 1979. I've played in 5 different decades. My best estimate puts me at over 10,000 hours of D&D played, and over 27,500 hours if you include planning and related activities (D&D video games, D&D miniatures games, D&D forum visiting, etc...). There are 8760 hours in a year. That puts me at about 1.25 years of D&D played, and 3 years of D&D activity in general. ...

Having played Fate, the move to Blades (which I recently started playing myself, btw, and love to pieces) shouldn't be as jarring. The real key, I've found, is as DM both rooting for the PC and yet still beating the hell out of them. It's a strange integrity to do both. There's a few ways I've seen about running scores. Some prefer to have a general map laid out and established and go...

Actually, that isn't so obvious. Say you're at level 11 with a glaive. You could take 4 attacks total, for 3x 1d10 + 1d4 + 4xStr damage. Assuming 20 Str, that averages to 39 if everything hits. Or you use Booming Blade with War Magic, and assume the target moves to trigger the extra damage. That gives two glaive attacks plus the BB damage (5d8 total): 2x 1d10 + 2xStr + 5d8 which averages...

I get letting the dice roll where they will to see if you can survive through luck and skill, but role playing games aren't board games and a little judicious nudging by the GM, who is not a player, can enhance the experience for many tables. I was using Int mod as a cap, but I didn't really like it. Since it forces you to raise your Int to use the big 5 dice moves. But I still wanted a small cap, since you could build up dice while scouting. Seems fine to me, except that it's not worth trading 1 attack for 1 die. I would add in some flat bonus instead. Maybe something like Int modifier + die roll vs ability score......

Kildrak seemed unsettled by his hallucinations, but would not speak about it. Trying to shake off the traumatic visions he gathered what food and drink he could as almost a reflex.

I've got a longer post on the subject over here, but here's my question: In cosmopolitan settings, you've got long-lived races like elves and dwarves living side-by-side with humans. Itís awfully difficult to picture these kids growing up together. I mean, what would The Little Rascals look like in a fantasy world? Are dwarves members for a dozen years before they grow out of it? Do elven...

Rooftop 0/Gs approaches the entranceway with Blockade not far behind. The young hero smells ozone in the air and hears a faint hum, not unlike those of high tension power lines. The lights are out in the stairwell, but there is enough light to see that the stairway down is mate out of metal attached to concrete. The hero has a bad feeling that someone(s) are lurking about the shadows inside...

Hmm... if you're facing a lot of enemies that have to be next to you to hit you, then Spell Sniper gives you 5d8 damage on any round that an enemy closes to melee. That's pretty sweet. Even if they don't close to melee, you're still getting an extra 2d8 on every opportunity attack. Fortunately, you don't have to decide until you actually hit level 12. You can assess the type of fights you end...

Oh I dunno. It's one thing to believe in a miracle. It's another to witness one fireball a rival cleric in the face.

This thread is inspired by the prior threads on the subclasses (wizards, clerics, non-magic, GISH). But it's time to take a break from subclasses before we do the SUBCLASS FINALE! So, as a little palate cleanser, we are doing iconic cities (cities, villages, towns, and/or rocks) of D&D!. IMPORTANT NOTE- DOWNVOTES ARE WORTH 2 IN THIS THREAD. Each city starts with 20 points and you vote for...

A lot of great art in D&D history. But I'm afraid the period of late 2e (with the black reprints) and 3e was the dark period of D&D art. Man, much of it was really awful. Especially for a company well established at that time, so unlike OD&D (which had zero budget), there isn't an excuse.

Role-Play Note: I stated that Indigo added this to a pack horse. Anything on the pack animals is always party inventory. Any character can use party inventory, but I am aware you are indicating politeness in your characters. Indigo says, "This lump of carbone, like that plate of slate Saemund found, should have come from higher up in the mountains that hold this jungle to its coast. We would...

While we haven't had any indication spriggans will be covered in the book, we conversely also haven't had any indication they won't be either. And this books would definitely be a logical place to update them to 5e, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the book...
