I think it would be perfectly reasonable to just give it (as a houserule). I also think the Ranger should get access to a Ranger-only feat that grants an additional fighting style. Possibly as a half-feat with a +1 ability boost. But of course that runs into feats being an optional rule issue.

False definition. False dichotomy. I am just not going to go there. Isn't it? Some people think it is. Some people would suggest that making the focus of chargen being good at something, rather than being a character which is realistic to setting, or being a character that produces an interesting story, would be min/maxing.

The fact that some no-name also-ran might emerge victorious because the big names beat each other to a pulp is part of the fun. It rarely happens, but the possibility adds spice to the game. Without tactical voting, irrational vendettas, dogpiling the leader, and people casting "kill" downvotes out of sheer bloodlust, Survivor threads would be very dull indeed.

I don't know any definition of failure that means success with setbacks. Further, a setback is by definition of a very temporary nature. The term implies that it was overcome. There is a big difference between a project failing and a project having set backs. There is a big difference between your company failing and your company having setbacks. Your definition of failure is to remove...

As a published solution to be used by various tables I like your fighting style. If I wanted instead to simply give that fighting style's mechanics to the beastmaster as a houserule, would that be reasonable? I think I'd like to let the beastmaster still get one of the normal fighting styles. I know I don't want to introduce any fighting styles that the fighter doesn't also get . . . and a...

The Yawning Portal is itself could be an inn located just about anywhere in Khorvaire but if you intend to have a large dungeon like Halaster underneath, then it should be any place at ground level at least, for a place like Sharn so the dungeon levels can be in isolated part of the Cogs and Khyber below.

I'd hesitate to hold FR up as an example to follow - mostly because it's the product of 50+ years of obsession and attention to detail that almost no DM can match. Plus, it's worth noting that in that time it has grown up some fairly significant weaknesses, not incidentally including rather too many poorly-defined deities. As a work, FR is impressive. But if you want a campaign setting of...

The fighting style I had proposed above included several elements. 1) Instead of using an attack action of yours to direct the beast to attack, you can use a bonus action, and 2) If an opponent you are adjacent to strikes your companion, you can re-direct that attack to yourself instead, and if it hits, you have resistance to the damage from that attack. I'd say that covers a fair bit of ground....

Yeah, definitely the second best game on this list and the third one I wouldn't liked to have won (I'll confess a certain nostalgia for the Eye of the Beholder games even if they haven't held up well). BG2's better character interactions and stories are severely hampered by there being so few of them compared to the first game. It was also relatively easy to get to where you needed to go via...

Yes. One person was actively kicked out of the game for cheating on dice rolls and making offensive comments that made female players (especially) feel uncomfortable. A few others I passively stopped inviting to games. One guy brought nothing to the game, mostly came to eat snacks and complain about things and fell asleep on the couch. A few others just weren't good fits for the group.

Well then, that shows not only a complete display of ignorance of many of the authors on this this who predated Tolkien, but also of Tolkien himself. Most of what he wrote was pulled directly from existing myth and folklore and just compiled into a singular story. Tolkien was a linguist who wanted to create a unified anglo saxon fantasy myth. Tolkein ripped off existing myth and folklore as...

I’ve never kicked anyone out of a game, but I have stopped inviting certain people to future games. And I have certain people I won’t invite to the same games, because while they are each fine on their own, their play styles clash to the point where neither enjoys playing if the other is there.

There are no official rules for penalties or bonuses for size differences that I know of. Personally I grant advantage if there are more than 2 size categories different, but that's a house rule.
