Mord smiled grimly as he watched his minions distract the giant skeleton. They were doing exactly what he had intended and he was happy to see that only one had been so destroyed. The Wights seemed to be done for already, so he focused his attention on finishing his target. Another pair of energy bolts shot forth. Eldritch Blast: 1D20+8 = +8 = 10 1D10+4 = +4 = 7 1D20+8 = +8 = 17 1D10+4...

You are basically then as GM saying that you **will not** stop or reduce the bonus items you plan to introduce *and* that de facto every new one you add becomes another "bardic inspiration wont help you" finger in my character's essential class feature. Thanks for "fixing" my bard, who will now curl up on the TV and sleep a lot. Moving...

There is a distinct lack of things that I would have thought to put in to this subset of rules. Like Captains with Lair Actions while on their ship. Rules and bonuses for PCs at the Helm, Lookout, or Stove Pot. More magical items for your ship, like figureheads! Also maybe some cannons. Also Quatermasters typically man the helm, they should have proficiency with water vehicles :P

Mord & the Mordguard vs the Skeletal Giant Mord told his guard to distract the giant skeleton as it lumbered out of the crack in the ice-cliffs. They raised their shields and surrounded it while defending themselves. It swung an oversized axe into one of their shields, and the Mordguard held its ground, but then it lifted its enormous foot, still in a giant's boot, and it stomped the Mordguard...

RAW and how I'd rule is that the party is crowding each other's lines of escape, and that since the fighter has no valid 5' move he's engulfed. I'd warn the players that's a risk of packing themselves too tightly before the cube got to them so that they weren't surprised, but part of dealing with the situation is leaving enough room for characters to maneuver so they don't get special chances to...

The one metagame aspect I'm worried about is I have never played with this DM or any of the other players and they are all pretty new so I feel that at the start I might be a bit more on my own. So the more starting AC the better but yea, it doesn't scale well. I...

Rules aside: Remember, you're arguing about occupying a 5ft cube of space. people, even with gear, don't take up that much space (generally anyways). You might not be able to fight effectively within that shred space, but you can fit. what would happen at our table would be that the fighter is pushed into the wizards square & both make a dex save or end up prone. the next to act would...

I'd go with half-elf, because they get pretty good stats and 2 skills. As a 1st-level half-elf wizard you'll have 6 skills, which is the same number of skills as a halfling rogue, for example. I think the four most valuable skills are Perception, Stealth, Persuasion, and Athletics. For the remaining two, I'd probably select Deception and Investigation. If you've got a good Dexterity (and you...

The abstractions of D&D are built around combat, not attacking walls. Its obviously nonsensical to even imagine that a dagger could significantly harm a wall or a golem made of solid steel....

This is how I've ruled similar things. I find the "can't willingly end your move" to be somewhat problematic. By RAW, you can't stand on top of a fallen ally or enemy, because you would be ending your turn in their space. Arguably you could once they fail all the death saves, since they're no longer creatures, but it shows how strict adherence to wording can quickly become silly.

The nearest unoccupied space is right behind the wizard, so now the fighter is 10 feet from the cube. And shielded by the wizard, who is probably whining about it, that wimp.

"A little bit" of theft is not ok. And its actually against the posted rules of this website, though one of the longest and most active threads on this forums is all about this type of theft and actually was given XP by the owner of this site, so yea, it doesn't surprise me that this attitude is prevalent here. Funny thing is, this owner is actually an RPG publisher, perhaps he doesn't think...

It isn't broken, it just doesn't fit in the dynamic of the game you are utilizing. In various different games with different groups of players I cater to different styles. With one type of style if they DO NOT have these types of bonuses they will die...point blank. I can kill a level 20 party of 5 members with 8 Hill Giants (a CR FAR below what is typical) simply with a few tweaks to items...

A couple of ideas I had seem like they could be used by Warlord/Fighter variants One was a low level feature that helps out the Strength based character called Battle ready For most the beginning of a battle is something they have to react to and its reflexes that take over but for you its a fulfillment of your expectations and your plans. You may pick and alternative stat (instead of...

A large group of goblins isn’t a problem for a higher level PCs IF the group is properly played. You can’t just stupid you way through anymore with more and better equipment. Magic items are still great, however they are not longer required to just keep up. Higher level foes can still crush lower level foes if played correctly. 5e is a lot more then it seems at a glance.

It could just be that bless is too good, given the normalization effect of rolling an extra die. Are there other spells or effects that you're having a problem with? It could be as simple as getting rid of that one spell.

I was going to make this post in the Original Misbegotten waif thread erroneously started by moi, but it was closed some time ago. So, anyway, I think I really want to start a 5E D&D game of a sandbox nature, because I have virtually no ideas about what I want the game to be. So in theory, the players could set the agenda for the game, but it would really work better if there was some...

I have played for almost 40 years, every edition. 5e is just easier to play then all previous editions. It’s also easier to DM, which means less set up time and more play time. The way the game uses AC with bounded accuracy, IMO, makes AC more important. You still get hit, but getting hit less really means more as creatures hit harder. You get the back and forth and trading blows effect,...

I think you're trying to fix something that's not broken. Don't hand out +3 weapons or belts of giant strength. Bless requires concentration so target the caster. Or just don't worry about it and if the PCs are stomping on your encounters raise your XP budget a bit to compensate.

If you're trapped behind a wooden wall that has 30hp, then a finesse dagger hits as hard as a brute force dagger, because the metric for force is the HP. The only time when finesse damage makes any sense whatsoever is if you're attacking something that has weak points. It's a reasonable(ish) assumption when you're talking about humans or dragons, but less so when you're talking about golems or...

The one I come back to every 10 years or so is Garchoran, a lizardfolk warrior/mage (class varies by edition) who likes to eat his fallen foes. He also offers to eat party members should they die, and would be honored if they ate him when he dies. This all makes sense and is very consistent because the lizardfolk credo is "you are what you eat," so Garchoran believes that eating powerful...

it seems to me that... necromancer sucks as a Player choice and is definate contender for worst wizard path. Making use of it is a burden to the play. We need the abilities hinted at in the monster manual and such, like the hand of a murderer as a farmilure, or calling up fewer, but stronger creatures. Necromancer needs serious attention. Calling up an army should be at best a one off, temp...

I have to agree that, while it was an enjoyable episode, I'm not keen on the whole "witness of history" theme. It also serves to highlight the often-handwaved question of when is it alright for the Doctor to intervene in events, past or future, on Earth or elsewhere? From the Doctor's viewpoint, isn't it all part of established history?

The other player in a 2E Dark Sun two-player campaign I played in rolled this exactly: 18/00 Strength and 00 for Psionics. He was a badass Fighter/Mage with some nasty psionic powers. He was also wealthy, so my character made him pay for everything--even after my thief/illusionist was wealthier than him.

I rule magic plusses on armour and shields don't stack but most resource based stuff is fine. Possibly ogre power and giant strength might need a fix. My preferred option is +2 strength capped at 19, wearer treated as large for tests of strength, carrying, and lifting or +4 capped as per the type of belt, wearer treated as huge for tests of strength, carrying and lifting.

Quick response - love your goals. updating the concept - good there were options that seemed to never make it to the table with the 4e Warlord (in spite of it being already very role versatile and having a lot of support, I think actually battlefield control could have been better and having some striker functionality? intrigues me) . Teamwork also vital (this is missing from the feel of...

Like I clarified, it isn't broken, but a bit bent IMO. I want to straighten it out a little ;) It is an issue for some, so I am looking for suggestions for a fix, not a dismissal of the issue. If it is not an issue for you and your group - great! But it is an issue for me, and I have seen it be an issue for others on these forums. Also, you misunderstood (or assumed I did) what my point...

I might be okay with that, as our typical campaign style advantages the long-rest classes heavily. Although generally I agree, which is why I think that this "balance" factor was a mistake.
