Im not sure if youre being serious. Because you know a lot of people arent going to give up an action based on a chance someone will set off the trigger they tried to predict before the turn started. The idea is that depending o what happens, the characters may have an optio to react to what enemies do. I thought that part was obvious

The issue I have by making a claim like that is that it does seem you do not take the playstyle into consideration which is a callback I believe to Ovi's posts (chess vs checkers) and a conversation I shared with @AbdulAlhazred. . Whereas in your game you frame the entire dungeon as a whole and then cut straight through to the room with the map, the other style is to frame the dungeon as a...

SESSION 22 August 16th We are in Earmark's Haven, or rather, we are just outside it. The smell of smoke heralded its presence as we approached. It looks to be a pirate town, or at least a town of thugs. It was decided that Corwin, Suleiman, and Urym should go into this dilapidated, run down, smoke-filled hole-in-the-wall and inquire about inns and ships. The rest of us waited outside of...

1 attack doesn't necessarily map to one swing of a sword, after all that would make for some incredibly slow duels at low level. So in situations like this we usually see highly skilled fighters as simply having more combat force, in a way that lets them distribute it to multiple enemies if they want. So when they put "multiple attacks" on a single target they might swing their sword a dozen...

I'm not following you here, what does this have to do with the definition or degree of player agency? I agree with you that the 'boring story' is certainly a risk attributable to anyone who is allowed to author the fiction.

You seem to be agreeing with this rather rigid view of the term, given the below line. What I'm trying to illustrate in the example is that if the player has the ability to inject fiction on that level (what you referred to as DM agency), more options become available to the player and with it, increasing action declarations and so he/she can drive the story more directly towards...

Yes, I think characters should be allowed to eat people as a reaction. Once per turn when somebody does something that irritates the hell out of you, your head expands to an enormous size, your arms grow longer, and you can grab people and stuff them down your throat whole.

By the wording in the PHB on TWF, it seems to indicate that you need to be holding both weapons when you take the attack action in order to get the bonus action attack. You'd have to take the attack action first and then the bonus action attack. Whether or not it's worth it to jump through the mechanical hoops to get two fighting styles just for such a minor benefit is another matter entirely.

When I've done it before, it was essentially role-play. The number of enemies was more a function of "Has everyone had a chance to get in on the action?" than any sort of specific number of bad guys. Statistically, if I roll enough dice, the enemies are going to crit, so instead of rolling for it, I just narrate in the enemies getting some good hits. The players get to do the same, once...

No idea if there is errata pr sage but the words "when you take" and "you're holding" seem to set a linked time to the twf gaining bonus attack that to me means you need the second weapon in hand when you make the attack action in order to gain the bonus attack. So i would say the overall series you are describing is not RAW.

Are you talking about your specific campaign setting, that you use at your own table? If so, then I can definitely see how being both a warlock and a cleric would be difficult in your homebrew. But if you are talking about the games of other people, none of that is necessarily true.

Interestingly enough, this is the reverse of the usual "player-vs-character" issue often seen in the game; but, instead of the player knowing something that the character doesn't, in this case the character almost certainly knows something that the player might not. Either a survival check with advantage, or no roll if getting lost is not significant in this region (like running into a camp of goblins, or in a freezing environment). If they cannot see something to orient themselves? A normal survival check. If they are in a dungeon that has any decent amount of twists and turns? A survival check with disadvantage.

I'd make it +X Weapon damage dice. So, if you had two extra attacks you would deal +2d12 on a hit. I think that is a fair representation of the increased impact (buh dun tish) of a lance. Keeps the visual of a single charge and a single powerful hit in tact, while respecting the multiple attacks.
