FWIW i actually use the reverse-roll in my games. players make all checks. i don't roll. When my NPC shoots at them they roll an "armor save" (d20+AC) to get missed. When they throw a spell with a save DC the roll an "effect save" (d20+DC) to get their spells to overcome the target's "save". odds of success and fail work the same but all rolls are in their hands. They love it,,,...

The first poll option is odd, because the 5e rules don’t prohibit it, beyond stating multiclassing is optional. It just hit me Cleric/Warlock is a perfectly fine way to do Moorcock’s Elric in 5e. He’s a cleric of Arioch, but he also has warlock abilities from all the pacts his ancestors swore. Therefore, since Elric is the greatest fantasy character evar, any ruling that restricts your ability...

Castle Ravenloft is the only place that is really Gothic horror. The rest of encounter areas can be used easily in most fantasy settings, you may want to include fewer vampire spawn and make some of the NPCs less insane. But the horror part of CoS is mostly created by the DM. The encounter areas are designed to make it easy to highlight the horror, but it's not ingrained.

Short answer is "Yes you can multiclass, its not a problem", why? 1. Deities and Patrons are not the same thing. Deities are beings of supreme power and Patrons are usually lesser beings vying for more power or to support the goals for greater power or for a greater power. As long as those goals align you are not worshipping two deities so there is no conflict. Example: If you were a Cleric...

I played a one-shot with three rangers as a test to see if the PHB ranger was as bad as so many people claimed. We were 7th or 8th level. The DM put us against a mix of individual big monsters and fairly large groups of orcs. Several different types of terrain were used (dungeon tunnels, dungeon caverns, outdoor orc camp, cliff edge). We all agreed that the ranger worked pretty well in that...

It has nothing to do with "better". It's following the rules of the invisibility spell that say that if you attack the spell ends. When the bully/thug threw the sand to help their ally, they were attacking. Had they been invisible they would have become visible.

Part of the problem with Classic LG Paladins is that the clearly Good acts a person can perform do not require Shining Armor or a Big Sword as necessary equipment. A lot of Youtubers that have big enough channels have had most if not all of their videos demonetized so it appears to be the association with war combat or violence. I treat hit points like some obscure game mechanic trivializing the brutality and violence of mortal combat. Like they do in movies or wrestling where you watch people take crippling blows and tremendous amounts of abuse with hardly a scratch or bruise to show for it. Adventurers are like that, even when you swing sharpened vorpal blades and hammering destructive blows on them between naps when...

It's not as powerful in play as you might think. Basically, over the course of an encounter, it's about the same as a single 2d6 heal. The biggest effect is that it means that most encounters - unless they're in *very* rapid succession - are started at full HEALTH.

I'm working on two of them. When I have time to work on homebrew stuff and open my homebrew folder, I see the two setting folders staring me in the face like children asking me to pick which one I love more.

lowkey13 - at this stage I think we better call off our discussion. slotting items based on level? gold is useless? all of this money and nothing to spend it on? the cost always adjusts? money not a reward?? I must have rolled a critical failure of the highest order since to me, you appear to have gotten it completely and utterly backwards. This will have to end here - I have...

The way I've seen it argued is that it helps most when it would it realistically make a difference. If you can't hit the broadside of a barn, +1 can multiply your odds of hitting something several fold (e.g. 0.5% to 1.9%), even if they're still low. If you're aiming at the broadside of a barn, a -1 will multiply your odds of missing it by the same amount, even if you're still talking a 98.1% of...

What does that matter? A save is a defensive roll, which is just the reverse of an attack roll, and it's no different than using a static to hit number and having the target roll to defend. Therefore, DoaM is already baked into the game in a reverse fashion though the half damage on a successful save mechanic.

-- Gary Gygax, 1st edition DMG I don't see anything remotely unclear about that at all. The statement, particularly in the context of the discussion, seems absolutely clear and in fact does seem to meet the standard you are demanding. Yes, I know that there are area elsewhere in the text that can have readings that complicated or contradict the clarity which is otherwise present in the...

I rewatched that Matt Colville video and I think running a skill challenge the same way as he does would be my preferred method. Forget trying to seamlessly fit it into the story, instead let players know it is happening and mention a few skills that will be useful. He may have also let them know the penalties for failure and what you can do about it. I'd also probably only use them for something...

For another take on this that includes "expected" magic items see the attached. I'd give credit to whoever created this but it's lost to the mists of time. I do find the table handy, even if I do ignore it for the most part.
