Wizards Presents Worlds and Monsters Undead: The Shadowfell is the twisted reflection of the world, formed of dark creation-stuff hurled aside by the primordials as they created existence. It encompasses the realm of the dead, and its necrotic energy animates the undead. Death isn’t always the end, even for creatures that have no great destiny. Aspects that make up living creatures interact to...

People like to see the level numbers rise. It's more fun in my opinion to get those feats and stat increases along with hitting level 21 or 24, than it is to just have everyone be level 20 but with a bit more.

On the contrary, you couldn't get more scientific. You raise the challenge, note the changes, record how many players were left alive, record how many characters were left alive, then probably lower the challenge :P Empirical evidence gathering at it's best. Just don't let your players know they're the experiment.

This I think, is another one of the reasons that they didn't do this. Those rules would make it a DC 10 to jump 5 feet with a running jump. A 20 strength PC could fail that, while a 3 strength could make it. It should never be possible for a 3 strength PC to jump farther than a 20 strength PC unless you have critical failure rules and the 20 strength PC tripped and fell. Better to just allow...

Somehow, the existence of your raven or loyal wolf has completely slipped your mind. He's "over there" is the usual excuse. After enough of that, the companions begin to fade into the background, as illustrated here. How do you keep that from happening?...

In this regard, I also love some of the mechanical nuances involved. For example, a Dragonborn Warlock with Otherworldly Leap and Strength 14 can reliably long jump 42'. A Half-Orc Fighter/Monk with Strength 18 can spend 1 Ki to reliably long jump 44'. I think a "dragoon" is feasible, who reliably long jumps perhaps 150'. Adding some distance with a chance of failing seems fine, so long as...

As a side benefit, the ruling makes it quick for me and my players to estimate their chances of making a given distance. There are plenty of corner cases, and note that where something multiplies distance jumped (e.g. Step of the Wind), I also have it multiply the minimum...

This is a better attempt than "prep" but it runs aground in many of the same ways. Wargame scenarios are quite often creative. Many boardgames involve scenario creation for extended play. Some boardgames involve permanent changes to the fictional space due to events on play (Legacy games, frex). The mere act of creation cannot be the line. If, however, you say that RPGs focus more on the...

He grabbed his greatsword and got up quickly from the ground, looking around for danger. He looked down toward the cabin. “Came from there,” he told the others. “Should we check it out?” It was close to their campsite.

Did you get Daxio's last action in there? He did Mass Suggestion to cause drow to flee. I had him target casters, but it seems all the casters visible are already under his Confusion, so he will leave them be and target all the drow soldiers and any other enemies beneath/around him that he can see with that Mass Suggestion, up to 12.

One option you could look at is steal the pathfinder 2 engine and plug in 4E type classes. It has NADs in all but name for example, and you could plug in 4E type numbers. It even has at will action granting.. It's proably bogged down for the same reasons cloning anything WotC related. Page count 4E core is 900 odd pages and how much extra do you want on top of that?

The Shadow Apocalypse Island Saturday, February 11, 2017/Night Round 0 Shadow held up a fist to forestall the others as they came within sight of the encampment. “Some kind of work camp,” he whispered. Looks like they’re building a statue. Typical maniacal despot, self-aggrandizing himself. I suggest we try and get around without alerting anyone.” Action: Move:

It shuts down the argument that the people on the internet represent the majority. That's all. WotC are saying that the majority like the original Ranger. People here are arguing that they don't because people on forums complain about it. If people want to come to a forum to talk about an aspect of a game they don't like that's cool. Maybe it is just to vent, maybe to see if others see it...

Not that it ever would because this is the internet and everyone thinks their opinion matters, but if it shut up the people who just seem to hate on the developers then the world would be a better place. So many people don't really offer up much in the way of constructive criticism. They just want to shout out that others are wrong and that what they believe is right.

Actually the Paladin and Barbarian are fine. More than fine, actually, since two simple levels of Fighter multiclass gets them most of what you say they "suffer" from not having. Smite nova or double hit points is easily better than the level 6 bonus ASI (which is the only one that really counts, since past level 11 you don't really need much of anything seeing how stupendously powerful...

Two weapon fighting only lets you wield light weapons (so Emmyr's handaxes and shortswords, among others), and you are still restricted to drawing one weapon at a time. Dual Wielder lets you draw both weapons at once, but also lets you use non-light one handed weapons, so I could get him battleaxes, warhammers, or longswords. But no, not two-handed weapons. It isn't Titan's Grip from WoW :) Which...

Perhaps for Paizo. I'm concerned mainly with my gaming group and their opinions. If the introduction to the system is overly deadly, it will color everyone's impression. Several posts on the Paizo forum express this has happened in other groups. What I will do is express my concerns to the group and let them choose. I might also make my own character to support the group - likely a divine...

I don't think this site is nearly as formal and tight-arsed as some other RPG sites on the NET. A moderator is simply someone who tells you something in red text. (And gets away with doing so... )

Although factually correct, my issue with statements like these is that they reduce the voices on the internet to inconsequential. One can use that for every issue one raises with the game to just shutdown the naysayers - whether it be every other week for some or once in a while for others, like those who didn't like the amendment/clarification to the Shield Master feat.

A reasonable question. However since this isn't a rules thread, or even about any specific edition, is it okay if my answer is "go look it up"? (The rule is from Xanathar's, but my guess the most accessible explanation will be found in the Adventurer's League; since they will use it from this season on) For the purposes of this thread, the relevant summary is simply: In 5th Edition...
