Dandin left Hanar behind. He was tethered loosely enough to a tree that he wouldn't wander off but could get away if needed. Thus freed to move at his own pace, Dandin's natural nimbleness showed itself and the halfling moved through the terrain nearly as easily as any elf. He took the opportunity to help out with the scouting where he could, keeping his eyes out for danger while jeepibg...

I'm not sure I would agree when using optional in the way 5e uses it... feats, multi-classing, etc. are all technically optional. That said I'm not sure a rules being called out as optional necessarily leads to your conclusion that... it was a secondary consideration, there are other reasons to make a rule optional. This is an interesting assertion seeing as mechanically, at it's core,...

The game is about guessing what your opponent will do. The player with the better intuition will have an advantage (yes, "perfect balance" must incorporate player skill into its effects in order to achieve perfect balance and parity between players; it's part of why it doesn't exist). In this situation, only two completely blind opponents, or two perfectly randomized solutions can produce a truly...

The reason why it's not a solved game at that point is because D&D has something the other games we're drawing comparisons to does not: the DM is changing the scenario. (Note this is not an appeal to Rule 0, it's an explanation of why it's not a solved game.) Your hyper optimized setup can be stopped, dead in its tracks, by being the wrong solution to any number of problems that are all...

The enchantment spells will always be more heavily influenced by DM interpretation than by text. Since the start of this thread we gained Charm Monster and other enchantment spells. I've played a lot of hours as an enchanter wizard and find the spells to be fine, and fun. Even with a mediocre charisma.

Generally speaking, I think of the stat blocks provided for Tiamat as her Avatar and then it makes much more sense. The fact the Demonlords/Arch Devils are so vastly understated and frankly, illogical, has bothered me since OoTA. Then again, I pretty much think Solo monsters need major design changes to make them actual boss fights.

That oversimplifies the concept. There is a lot of room for more than one build of psychic warrior/jedi. And the Jedi element deserves to be more than a delayed tweak that doesn't get used because it cannibalized the Ki Points... it deserves to be the core.

Telekinesis (moving objects) feels different thematically from elemental-kinesis. I like the wizard getting elemental-kinesis. I still want the psion to have telekinesis. Possibly the constructor psion can also be the master of telekinesis (mental force), so much so, one can even create force constructs (made out of mental force).

Yes, at a certain point, for proficient (and especially expert) PCs, DC10 becomes trivial, but the module writers can't assume the task will only be attempted by those PCs. DC 20, within the level range the modules are written for, is, for expert PCs, still a 30% failure...

It's amusing, but as an analogy misses the point. All of the pieces of a color are controlled by the same player - they are more like class features, not individual characters. The two players are balanced in features - the primary difference at the state of the game is who has initiative. :)

This is not a problem. The problem is that published modules never call for DC 30 checks, and only very rarely indeed DC 25. The problem is that published modules call for DC 10 checks. Everything about skills in official adventures is ridiculously easy, that's the problem. Once you set the DCs yourself, as you do, there is no problem.

If I was going to be snarky, I would make a comment along the lines of "if a DM doesn't know that, then maybe someone else should DM" - really it's easy to adjust your challenges to a group that on even keel, be it all min/maxed or all median, or all suboptimal.
