Rodrigo vs Pterafolk4 Rodrigo ducked under a wing and skewered the creature in the ribs, then he took a few steps to the side and twisted his rapier free. The winged terror lunged forward, but before it could get at him, it expired from a collapsed lung and fell to the ground. Rodrigo rushed to the cliffside to look down over Miss Imogen as she considered how best to approach rescuing Tarri. ...

Ability scores usually donít eat up much time. Most players grasp the concept easily. Higher numbers are better. Class X relies on ability Y. Class and race are weighed and measured. Even if you know exactly which class and race combination you want you have to dig through and pile all that up. Or a class has mechanisms that work differently when you rest. I think here is where some baggage...

Sure. I could see someone like Roll 20 eventually having AI-run games. It would have to be very advanced before I would be interested. Video games are one thing but I like my TTRPGs and board games to help reconnect with other natural persons. Where I can see AI being useful at the table is as a DM's assistant. Actually, in my last game one of the players was testing an Amazon Alexa app for...

Nope. It would work something like this: Player character is hiding in the room or the next room. Player: "I use my silent speech ability" to make a menacing voice and say "Your secrets are not as hidden as you believe. We know what you did. Return the stolen crown or I shall haunt you and curse your every effort." At this point, based on the NPCs backstory, stats, and what has been...

I wasntvthinking as much about spamming multiple rests but simply building for short rests and going for multiple runs based on that. If the group runs two raids a day and say brings warlocks, fighters, even some druids then their ongoing sustainable capabilities go thru the roof over a 7 day period as opposed to what they gain at a singlexweek off. Of course, the GM csn msnagevtime and pacing...

Spells that restore hit points usually restore fewer hit points than the damage inflicted by damaging spells of the same level. E.g., cure wounds heals 1d8+mod, and inflict wounds is a whopping 3d10 damage. You'd have to cast cure wounds at 2nd-3rd level to heal that damage. By analogy, then, if you can remove a level of exhaustion with a 5th-level spell, then a 5th-level spell that inflicts...

Deadly: 40 XP. c) If you prefer quest awards instead of encounter awards, just pick the % of a level you think it's worth. Like, "This major quest is worth 2/3 of a level" = 66 XP. Sometimes I quibble for a minute or so about where I should put numbers. But compared to the rest of character creation that has nothing to do with the numbers, it's a tiny percent. Other ways of getting ability scores only changes the...

I've played in a game that had a formally written party charter: original Hackmaster. I think it was required, actually. If I recall correctly, the charter's main purpose was to allow the DM to screw us over. The secondary purpose was to allow party members to screw each other over. A distant third purpose was to impose some semblance of fairness onto everything.

I like that Gamma World idea. We like standard arrays, but having only one is dull. We have a selection of arrays to choose from. Okay, that's not speeding things up much, but you could randomly roll for the array, and then randomly place the individual numbers. Somebody might have already tossed this idea out in the thread.

I will say that it vastly increases the number of options, compared to rolling in order. Regardless of how you get the numbers, deciding where to place them is the big time sink. I think the fastest method of generating random stats that were still playable (without massive re-rolling) came from Gamma World 7E: You automatically get an 18 in your prime stat, or a 16 in each if you had two...

It looks like this will be a third party rules sourcebook on how to run an adventuring corporation in a D&D home campaign. Not a WotC D&D release, but like the Goodman Games books officially licensed as D&D books.

Yeah I didn't pick up on what type of book this would be. For all I can figure out it could be an art book. Which may not be a bad thing but I certainly cannot set any expectations or even hype from what I read.

I concur with what most others have said about the dangers of permanent (well, beyond the spell duration) exhaustion. I would also like to add that I don't think making it the same level as Greater Restoration is automatically a good balance. Greater Restoration, as written, removes one level of exhaustion, while the victim of this spell is likely to have more than one level inflicted. On a...

Chapter 246 To Bredan it felt like the Golden Gull was limping as it eased slowly into the natural harbor. The crew had cleared away most of the debris created by the storm from the shipís decks, but nothing could conceal the jagged remnant of the main mast. The island wasnít very big, maybe a little more than a mile across and half that in width. At first it hadnít looked promising; the...

Put me in the group of people who seemed to have no problems with the amount of magical treasure found by 15th level. Both in games I ran or played in, there were plenty of magic items by way of random treasure gen. That said, I 100% agree with the OP concerning the overly-difficult, costly, and/or GM-arbitrary method of magic item creation presented in 1E and 2E. I like the idea of "needs...

Vik, like Nalvis, tries to clear his head of the noxious fumes while he chokes up on his harpoon to swing it like a pendulum at his attacking beetle. Having previously succeeding with the manipulation of mechanical Way, Quill will continue to use the same tactic when engaging a second beetle. Speed of Action: Reaction - Hindrance Rekyavik: 2 - 100 = -98 Arbrine: -37 Nalvis: 13 - 100 = -87...

From the computer. I think it was part of the HP setup after downloading the drivers and software. It gave an option to print a test page.

I was wondering yesterday whether in the future an AI could be trained to make custom balanced encounters and even whole schedules of encounters. Probably not the fluff, but the crunchy parts that make things interesting. I imagine it could be a huge time saver and could also make more freeform activities a lot easier to run. Right now we roughly gauge encounter difficulties with things like...

PAM has a specific list of weapons. Some don't have reach like the quarterstaff and the spear (added in errata). Other weapons like the lance and the whip that have reach aren't on the list.

The story started to be predictable once the Krill ship showed up. It's a well-traveled path, but I agree that they did it well. I agree on Warburton's character. A bit of waste of someone like him too.

By "print a test page" do you mean from the printer's reports menu, or from the computer?

So for a quick narrated withdraw from the fight I'll need; appropriate death saves from Duran and Thateous jump the fence roll from Nariah jump the fence roll from Illvilious (more for the person he's holding - I'm assuing it'll be Thateous) This fight went a lot farther south than I hoped it would for a fight that was supposed to be a quick resolution to a side quest to get you guys back...

Although I have no interest whatsoever in using AI in my campaign, I'm interested to see what will be in the book. I have enjoyed the Acquisitions Inc shows on YouTube, and I think there is a lot of useful stuff in the Ravnica book despite the fact that the setting itself is of no interest to me.

I just started Hominids, the first book in the "Neanderthal Parallax" trilogy by Robert J. Sawyer. I'm only three chapters in but I'm already hooked: a Neanderthal physicist from a parallel world where Neanderthals survived and became the dominant race on Earth has accidentally crossed between universes and ended up on our Earth, much to the consternation of our scientists. Meanwhile, back on...

Just looking for clarification, are you disagreeing with the specific level-1 I posted, or are you disagreeing with the concept that there needs to be some penalty for creating a new character otherwise there are players who will always sidestep the chance for resurrection penalties, to the detriment of the game in other ways.

Yup. Since PCs are either taking a short rest or a long rest that restores everything, in practice I've not seen any issue with spamming short rests by say resting for 3 days with 9 SRs, although it could happen - in theory Fighters could Second Wind 9 times and get a lot of hp back while other PCs only got level x 3 back. But in practice if the PCs can rest 3 days they can nearly always rest 7...

They've never started this way in any of my campaigns so it'd be fresh. They have started as prisoners/slaves (Out of the Abyss) who had to escape and survive a foreign and hostile wilderness, which was 2 campaigns ago for us, so I do worry I'd be doing it again.
