Thank you for the great content! I certainly could have worded my criticism of the DMs Guild better so I apologize for that. I guess I just don't see DMs Guild as a replacement for visible 3PP products in stores, that's all.

My experience with Noble Knight was pretty similar to Doc_Klueless'. The only real difference is that I took store credit, where it sounds like he opted for cash. I traded a bunch of stuff that had nice memories, but was otherwise just gathering dust, and ended up with some nice books that got regular use after that. Much easier than when I was trying to do it all myself on ebay. Just keep...

Both the Eldritch Disciple and Eldritch Theurge progress how many invocations acquire and their caster level; but doesn't progress Eldritch Blast damage dice. Enlightened Soul does the opposite. In addition, a warlock can take partial advantage of prestige classes that provide a "+1 level of existing...

This is a question that is totally up to your DM to answer. There is no definitive answer in the game itself. For my current campaign, my answer would be no, because there simply are no half-dragon animals. If you are the DM, I see you're already leaning to yes.

(I’ve noted this oddness in other threads, but reading it for real makes it puzzling all over again.) If I get to run this adventure, the PCs will be beaten by the villain to the hoard, the mission will then be to extract the hoard...

One trick on encounter building I picked up from Mike "Sly Floursh" Shea is that a monsters of a CR equal to 1/3rd to the level of a PC is a good one-on-one challenge. So a party of 4 PCs can have a decent, challenging fight with four CR 1/3 monsters. And at level 3, four CR 1 monsters will be a good fight. And at level 12, four CR 3 monsters will be okay. And at level 20, four CR 5 monsters...

The later ones make more and more use of subsystems and Pathfinder content, which makes them trickier to run and requires updating more content. For an experienced DM, you could probably run most of them on the fly. You'd need to prep some key NPCs and figure out ways of tweaking certain monsters. But, for the...

Just that if you ban MC, the guy at the table who WOULD have powergamed his tri-class munchkin is still going to have that attitude and that playstyle. It just means he's going to play an OP single class build (e.g. GWM/PM Vengeance Paladin). And if that guy isn't at your table, then it won't hurt to allow MC because anybody who does it will probably do it in a way you like.

I don't think the Ranger will be completely righted until a 6E, frankly, when they can build it again for Core. For now, alternate Class features and Subclasses are being offered.

Bodes poorly tbh. Ranger's primary features are poorly designed (favored enemy, primeval awareness, natural explorer). Not trying to get us sidetracked on that though; the point is that presentation is a part of design. If people are reacting badly to it, something isn't in accord with their expectations, even if mechanically it checks out.

Love it!! The static damage, while simple, means that you can't take down a even a kobold in one hit, and the dragon deals as much damage as anyone else. What if we said that the damage you cause is equal to the number of 6's you rolled, if you win the combat roll? Yes, this means that sometimes no one would take any damage, and sometimes the loser might take a lot.

Yeah, that would definitely work to capture her time with the Amazons. She's also got levels of monk from her time in Chin; and warlock from her time with Alti. And I think her time as a Valkyrie could be represented with a paladin oath. She multiclassed a lot.

I totally get every single point she made except the mouse. I'm right-handed but I use mice equally well with both hands. It doesn't matter at all which side it's on. Actually the left side might be better on laptops since the disc station is usually on the right.

I just watched the new Netflix "Limited" series Maniac, and it was awesome. I was well entertained. If you like things to be a bit weird, and feeling sometimes a bit lost on what's really going on, if you like alternate reality stories, 80s retrofuture tech, or if you like Emma Stone and Jonah Hill proving their acting chops, if you liked a show like Legion (but can do without superpowers),...

Because it breaks verisimilitude. Which is fine if that's what people enjoy. I don't enjoy running those games, and rarely enjoy playing in games lacking verisimilitude. Absolutely correct: I wouldn't enjoy playing with that person. But isn't the point of this discussion to talk about why we would or wouldn't allow/disallow MC and the concurrent differences in playstyles and campaigns? ...

I would agree, the "TRUE system master" would have done that. Again, and this is my experience not a scientific fact, most of the times I've seen this done it wasn't by a system master. It was by someone who saw something that has the kewl and suddenly decided that they wanted it for their character. In fact... I fully agree with the Stormwind Fallacy. In fact - still my experience - the...

Based on listening to the Happy Fun Hour recently, the conclusion that WotC has made about the 4E Mono and the whole Ranger Class is that people react badly to what is, mathematically speaking, just fine due to an overwhelming set of options of dubious payoff.

Ok, let's say that's true. So what? Why does it matter? If that person's playstyle bothers you, then it really doesn't matter what the rules allow: you just aren't going to enjoy playing together.

Stormwind Fallacy guide, part 1: The Two Player Types. Type 1: fluff is all that matters. Player 1: Hey, DM, I've got a brilliant idea for my next PC. It all started many moons ago, the wind was howling around the moors. A lady in a dark dress, grey, charcoal maybe, maybe just shiny black, I haven't completely worked that out yet.... ....and when he was four years old he met the first...

D&D is a role playing game. Characters play a role in a story. Make it a good story. If the PCs come up with a questionable way to use a spell, item or ability, ask 2 questions: 1.) Will it ruin the game? 2.) Is it fun? If the answers are no and yes, allow it. DO NOT suddenly have enemies start using the tactic against them randomly... the PCs are the heroes of the tale. Let them...
