It seems to me that this is a failure of the adventure rather than the rules. All the adventure writer needed to do was suggest a DC for jumping between the platforms (and what happens if the PCs fail) as this is an obvious thing for PCs to attempt in the room (obviously not every scenario needs to be analyzed, but the basic parameters of the challenges of the room should be documented). ...

It requires a good degree of consistency within the campaign - yes. i consider it a intentional goal of mine to apply a fairly consistent set of Dcs, derived from the basics outlined in the DMG and the concept of "who could do this reasonably" or "who set the challenge up." if the answer is "not skilled at it and not exceptionally adept (non-proficient and no ability score boost) the DC is...

Coralin's stomach sank to his feet at the prospect of actual adventure. He'd never had an actual adventure. Sure, he'd practiced with the sword and whip, and was by all accounts not shabby with them, though he knew he could be better. His attention was a little divided. But to actually stick the pointy end of his rapier into another thing? And to keep it from sticking the pointy end of its...

Large battles would most likely have at least one of these weapons in use; and its use would be detrimental to the giants chances to win. Comparing these two posts is interesting. Yes, it's handy to have some skill DC examples. But, as you said, you never made such a check before. So even if there had been a chart in the book, you likely wouldn't know it off the top of your head. And so you'd have to pull out the rulebook, read the chart, and decide what DC fits best. That's going to slow things down compared to just saying...

In this forum, you should also expect people to have different opinions as to what they want to see WotC produce. For instance, I do not want them to make what you have asked for, but to keep on their current path. More like MToF, more like XGtE, more like the APs. It's an evergreen approach that they can keep going forever, basically.

We had a thread on this before. I use 4e rules, the DC is the number of feet you want to jump using a running start, with your minimum as STR score. You add your athletics modifier also. So 25 feet is DC 25 with a running start of 10’ or 5’ with Athlete feat. Standing jumps are half those values. This makes Boots of Striding and Springing worth attunement, tripling your jump ability is...

Short of there being some circumstance in the environment like, I don't know, a springboard or something that the PCs could use to get a few extra feet from their jumps, then the normal speed and jumping rules apply and they simply die in my view. The standard approach to jumping wouldn't work as they'd fall short. They're going to have to come up with something else.

For one thing, it gives you a lot more flexibility setting up the alpha strike; you aren't constrained by your ability to physically close with the enemy in the first round....

And that's great and all. And, please, stop including other people. This isn't players telling me what they want WotC to provide, this is YOU. You want more books. Ok, great. I want lots of things too. It's not going to happen. How much more is there really to discuss? I mean, you're not even content with free content on the WotC website. It MUST be printed in order to count. They...

Out of curiosity, do you think consistency is important in the DM's adjudication, or do you think the immediate needs of a given action or scene are more important?

The problem with having specific examples and hard numbers is that it tends to slow down the game and in some cases limit creativity. If someone is trying to swing from the chandelier, either the DM can make up the rule on the spot like the OP did or someone can say "I think I remember that was covered in ___". Followed by people pulling out books, flipping pages, looking up numbers. Instead...

Give me decent rules to create planeswalkers and epic level characters and then we can talk about planes hopping (or plane shopping)!

I like having those per skill charts. Even if I decide to ignore them, because they serve as mental benchmarks. I can compare what kind of jump the designers consider "difficult" to my own perspective and make a fast, reasonable ruling. If i don't have anything to go on, i feel a little less certain. I am not a huge fan of story-based DCs (assigning difficulty based on how i want the scene to...

This. Unlike prior editions, especially 3E, 5E doesn't try to codify every possible situation. By giving the DM leeway to adjudicate DC as needed for individual situations, the rules are greatly simplified. While this may not sit well for some who like having hard coded rules for everything, I find it refreshing.

Granted, most of those are single use effect, I think the RAI is anything that is not a 'Consumable' is a 'Permanent' item? vis a vis: this reads to me as if these three categories are the groups that all treasure fall into.

Why would you need big weapons for? You don't get to wield two-handed weapons, right?

Anyone curious as to how Ravnica will treat the none human races from the PHB and beyond? Dwarves, Dragonborn, Gnomes, Half Orcs, Tieflings, Halflings how does Ravnica handle them? What about other races from offical sources like VGTM, MTOF, Tortle Package, Way Farer's Guide? Half Elves appeared in a novel, so they should be okay. Ravnica has Elven subraces that sort of line up...

Exactly, the Hyrid goes perfectly with Sorcerers, including ability scores +2 Constitution, use the floating +1 for Charisma. One thing Hyrids should get is the ability to pick another race like Human, Vedalkyns, Elves, and use their feats/count as a member of the race for spells and other effects.

It only works during if you get surprise. You can, technically, go first in combat and not have surprise. As noted above, you can't Hunter's Mark and dual wield on the same turn. I think the best you can do is: 16d6+2d8+12 with a short sword. It's still a pretty good alpha strike.
