Orc 1 was standing where Saarthax is now. I'll have the orc be next to Sarrthax, in the water. I don't think this has significantly altered the game as the orc hasn't done anything on his turn and wasn't supposed to be able to do anything.

I’d have to go back and reread it, but I think I always felt it was simply an adjudication based on what they were doing, as you point out. The monsters are caught, but so are any characters in melee with them. I love that specific positioning and movement is absent from their turns, and that’s something I maintain to this day. I think tying movement to your turn, and how that impacts...

You would normally gain the monk Unarmed Defense when multiclassing into it, except that under the multiclassing rules there's a specific section about Unarmored Defense that says once you have it from one class you don't get it from the other. So if you took Monk before Barbarian, you'd only have the Monk Unarmored Defense. And vice versa. But you could take other classes before either and...

Some thoughts on the enforcer/thug rogue: To make it get use from strength and also make it more sturdy, they could get temp hp at the start of each of their turns equal to strength modifier, or maybe even proficiency bonus + strength modifier, though that allows multiclass shenanigans. Another possibility would be to pull a barb/monk and give them their own AC calculation. 10 + strength mod...

I think the “you can’t choose a target in melee” was referring more to a mass melee, like 6 PCs, possibly with henchmen, fighting a dozen orcs in a 20’x20’ room. At least that’s the idea I got from it. And thinking about it, it would be interesting to come up with a way to handle a frat like that differently. If I recall, I think the most interesting thing in the example of play, though, is...

Sooty flew along the curving passage going north and west and turned into the first side-passage to the right. This room was deeper into the iceburg than the others had been, and it held some sort of cloying mist that was very cold and made it hard to see, even for a bat. Through the mist there appeared to be six Frost Giants, standing perfectly still while kobolds polished their boots. At least...

I suspect that the AAF is set up in some ways like the other American pro sports leagues- doing business as a giant organization with “teams” being owned only in part by the owners. That lets the league act in unity on certain issues and control who can join without running afoul of antitrust regulations. But in the AAF, control may be more centralized. That will give them more power to keep...

Even in the age of #MeToo, Sim’s stuff could still be profitable, especially if handled as I described. And because of his views, he probably wouldn’t have much negotiating leverage, so the big risk is just how cantankerous he wants to be in negotiations.

Thanks for that. I thought that when presented with multiple AC calculations, you got to pick between the options. So basically you do NOT gain the Monk's unarmored defense at all by multiclassing into the class? I didn't realize that, but luckily this is not a big deal at all as it would only ever at best make a +1 difference anyway.

The rules errata state that "You cannot hide from a creature that can clearly see you". So if the DM decides that a creature cannot clearly see you in a crowd (or in a pile of stuffed toys) you can hide. I might use an alternative skill for this such as using a disguise kit or other skill as appropriate. So you can hide in a crowd if the DM decides it's reasonable.

For blending in a crow I would use stealth if the character was detected and wanted to hide, or charisma if the character wanted to remain undetected as another pedestrian. For disguise deception, if he wants to act as another person perhaps performance.

I have grave misgivings about a corporation erasing someone's credit - whether that person is a toad or not - without also removing the impact they've had on the product. But removing all of the consultants? If I had been involved at that level and had a credit removed, I'd be kind of pissed off.

In other words, using your reaction to counterspell on your turn is allowed unless you are or already have cast a bonus action spell. So you can't counterspell the counterspell of a Misty Step. Two-handed is a property that certain weapons have. If a weapon has this property, it cannot be a monk weapon. Neither spears nor quarterstaffs have this property, however, so they both qualify as monk weapons because they are both simple weapons that don't have the two-handed or heavy property. The property that allows spears and quarterstaffs to be wielded with two hands is the versatile...

Correct. That is why I was so precise in my language on my original post. It is a fairly rare circumstance, as I outlined above.

Agree with life cleric being a bit overrated. But how do druids heal better much of the time? Please give an example.

I could really do with a copy of Great Cthulu's 5e stats for my Primeval Thule game - not to mention Hastur & Nyarlathotep. :D Edit: OK I have it now - only took a couple minutes to get the pdf as a Late Pledge on https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/petersengames/sandy-petersens-cthulhu-mythos-for-5e

Thanks. Would you invest in Elemental Adept feat for fire? It would only comes to Quicken GFB (or normal GFB), Fireball and probably scorching ray, but it would allow to ignore one of most common resistance. However on the other hand- Quicken BB is already hardly resisted (thunder). Elemental Adept would combo well with Draconic Sorcerer, however +5 damage to fireball or to one of scorching rays...

I think the "upgrade the ship" side plot and accompanying test fight was their attempt to shoehorn some action into what was otherwise a relationship episode. I also think it worked. I've been surprisingly satisfied with these romance plots. I generally disliked Riker romance on TNG, but these have been working for me. Hopefully they won't get stale.

I think you're misreading it - it says "shortswords and any simple melee weapons that don't have the two-handed or heavy property" - quarterstaffs do not have the two-handed property (PHB pg 149) as they are Versatile and can be used either one or two-handed. pg 147 definition of Two-Handed "requires two hands when you attack with it" - this is different from and exclusive of Versatile. ...

Depends on the game. You better bet your last toenail that dismemberment and decapitation is on the table for HARP. Other games, it varies. People's tastes change as they get older or simply experience other games. Some grow away from gritty, some grow toward it. I'm in column two: I want combat to matter (specifically called shots), so yes, I've come to prefer death spirals . . . in certain...

So you can prepare at most 8 paladin spells from level 1 and 2 spells. This shouldn’t be difficult because after the first 4 or 5 the options become lackluster. I’d assume Bless Cure wounds Find steed Wrathful smite Command Maybe heroism.

The truth of the claim is irrelevant to the discussion about realism, though. It was a Red Herring. Realism is a spectrum, so whether or not real human lives match up to NPCs lives doesn't matter. With a focused laser sword as opposed to a sword made of cheese? It's much more realistic than a cheese sword. The entire cantina freezes and goes silent. That's shock.
