No, there is more to it than that. D&Ds devils are based on the Faustus myth - bargaining for souls - corruption - twisted deals; and Dante's Inferno - devils working for god by punishing evil souls after death. Demons are pretty much everything else - monsters who just want to destroy. Daemons, Demodands and Slaad are just filing in gaps in the D&D alignment wheel, and both mythologically and in...

It's cool. I misread your tone. You clarified your position. And so I dropped that in the reply quotes. Here, I would agree. Fate is not really the ideal game for a reactive set of players, at least not without some proactive gamers to carry the group. It does assume that the protagonists are fairly proactive. Though here I do find that this sometimes requires mentoring players to learn...

I think they wanted to keep them each broad enough that a very large veriety of characters could fit the mold for each oath. Think about it, tyrants, centrist, extremists, hippies, you kind of find them in all walks. I would ask the player to justify their character's code to you in a way that upholds the oath, then hold them to it... even if their code is capable of hypocrisy. Makes an...

Wah, now you've stirred my interest even more! I hope there is. There has been a kickstarter for the Good Society RPG which is trying to capture the spirit of Jane Austen's regency era novels. It isn't out yet, but I backed it and am totally intrigued about the system. One would only need to include other house staff as PC options. (For those who'd like to get more info:...

Wilhelm shrugs. ”Don’t know,” he answers Darian’s question about Fareon and Harluhk. ”Weren’t they with you? We’d better find them, and then find Veradda. Something happened here, and I hope she’s still alive.” The warlock looks around at the seemingly deserted town. ”Where are the villagers? I hope they fled to safety on time. Does anyone know of safe spots in the area? We should...

No more questions. That's the only interesting part of PHB+1 that merits discussion. Why? Since otherwise it's simple. Either you want to play in the AL, in which you need to abide by its rules. Or you're not playing in the AL, and you're not affected by any of its restrictions. Except the suspicion WotC uses it to not test content from supplement A together with supplement B; which...

I'm not a fan of Gygaxian gap-filling either, but surely the devils and demons are no less products/victims of it than the daemons. It's not as if religion, myth, and fable are bursting with stories that make a distinction between "demon" and "devil", characterize one as crazy evil and the other as organized evil, and pit them against each other in eternal conflict. That's all AD&D.

WOIN uses a life-path system for character creation. Having a few years as a lawyer in your past might give you some extra social skills, money, or a useful ability. That doesn’t mean you’d be playing an LA Law campaign. Maybe you’d play an ex-lawyer turned vampire hunter or a student who moonlights as a ninja. Careers in WOIN aren’t like classes in D&D. They’re small chunks of time you spent...

One of the reasons we've had to suspend new registrations on our site until we can get the appropriate software update in place.

Here's one I'm working on: Wood Elf, Fighter(11)/Paladin(2)/Ranger(4)/Rogue(3) (Eldritch Knight, Gloom Stalker, Assassin) 2 Levels of Fighter are needed for Action Surge, a staple of nova builds, and we're going up to 11 levels for the third attack. Eldritch Knight gives us extra spell slots to fuel Divine Smite. 3 Levels of Ranger are...

For me, it's similar to people I knew (also back in those Uni days) who really seemed to want to play 500, but showed no interest in actually...

They are pointless. Demons and Devils have a basis in religion, myth and fable. Daemons (pronounced demons) owe their existence solely to the AD&D alignment wheel and where invented to fill up space in the Fiend Folio (1st ed).

Incorrect. As soon as the target saves successfully, the spell ends. In this way the spell works just like most every spell. In short this is a level 6 spell that only restrains you, with the quirk that targets that fail three saves are petrified. From a PCs point of view this quirk is useless, partly because three rounds is an eternity in combat, partly because - well, who wants a...

Well, in essence, this is what HoML actually does. You pick 'boons', which usually have powers attached to them, as well as a fairly feat-like effect (usually, not always). I don't have a rule that says you CANNOT take a boon just because you are class X vs class Y. Its up to you to figure out the thematic elements of your character as you see fit! Classes do get features which help to depict the...

It isn't as simple as it sounds. This was one of my original design goals with HoML, but its VERY VERY HARD to design good interesting powers which somehow 'become' strikerish, defenderish (the two easy ones actually), controllerish, or leaderish simply because of the character's role. I mean, you can kinda do it, but the result is nothing like as interesting as actual powers. What I did was...

The thing I loved most about the AD&D books - specifically the Monster Manual and Deities and Demigods - was that it gleefully ripped off just about every culture on Earth. Sure, like you said, the basics are rooted in European history and fantasy, but it quickly expanded beyond that. It made it clear without outright having to say it that AD&D was a fantasy game that could incorporate all...

It's really up for you guys to decide what you want to do next. While transporting the wounded to the fort is a vital event, it isn't necessarily vital that the PCs be involved with the process of taking Lorien and Raius there. Aeron can do it with soldiers as escorts. The identity of the blackmailers are still a mystery; Lord Ebal's death seems to be related or it's just a crazy coincidence....

It doesn't do much for the casters with their long rest spell regeneration, but I feel like it does make a short rest more appealing if the healing element is the exact same, because...
