I'll point out again that this in no way actually represents any group of humans entirely, the closest would be the rare people who are born girls and turn into boys when they get a hit of testerone at puberty. Actually trans people can't change their sex daily, so that would be better represented by a background and a quest for a magical spell or item that can change their biological sex to...

Well, if I'm the GM and I'm no longer having fun, I'll tell my players and quite likely just quit the campaign. I wouldn't say it's a 'responsibility' of players to ensure I'm having fun, but it definitely helps if they don't get on my nerves all the time ;) There can be reasons that don't have anything to do with the players, e.g. a kind of 'burnout'. As always, talking to your players regularly...

We still meet. depending on what we agreed on, we'll either play a regular RPG session or turn it into an evening of board games. We 'solved' the problem for our RPG campaigns by having a pool of 10-12 players and we'd play if a certain minimum of players had time (three or four). Each player also had two characters so we had some flexibility and could ensure that a healthy mix of roles was...

If the group is 5 players plus DM, we play on with 1 down but cancel with 2 down. At 6 players + DM, we'd play on with 2 down. However, I'd also keep an eye on the situation - if we find that a particular player is constantly cancelling then there comes a point where it's better to discount that player from our plans (in which case we'd consider it a 4+DM group, which plays on with 1 down)....

My monk has also been added. I took the elemental gem (uncommon), the candle of the deep (common) and the mystery key (common) as my magic items. It was nice to discover that the Unarmored Movement extra speed feature does not specify walking speed, so Perilor is a pretty fast swimmer! By the way, there are quite a number of uncommon magic items that give a swim speed, the ability to...

Such an item would be spectacularly powerful. Handle with extreme care. :) (Also, if introducing such an item, I'd definitely go with "your Proficiency Bonus becomes +X", rather than "your Proficiency Bonus increases/decreases by +X" - that way, there's no risk of people trying to stack them. :) ) Finally, I am inclined to echo what TheCosmicKid says - items that do nothing other than...

It's hard to make interesting, context-independent generalisations here. I'll just compare a few systems. In AD&D it is possible to be the player who does what I said - sits back, makes the odd comment, rolls the dice when a fight breaks out. I've played with these players! As MUs they're terrible, because they need someone else to help manage the spell load-out (both choosing, and casting)....

Well, no DM = no game, obviously; so the following only counts players. If it's a 2-player game (and I've run these) then both have to be there. If it's a 3-player game then I'll sail with just two but all three is far preferable. If it's a 4-player game then I'll always sail if three are there and will sometimes sail with just two. Anything bigger than that: quorum is half rounded up. ...

A lot of reasonable stuff is being said about quorum and regularity, so I'll take a different approach. Part of solving this problem, if it comes up often (though optimally before), is finding out explicitly just where your game night falls in individual people's life priorities. I've known one person who considered D&D about as important as a hot date with a long-time crush, and another who...

I don't know the exact details of the Pole Vault bonus to a Jump check, but I think that multiple poles don't give a stackable bonus. I guess he could roll for each lance to see how far down the shaft it breaks, and use the better of the two? If you had a pole arm, rather than a shield, I speculate that you could parry both lances with a well-timed sweep of the pole arm shaft, which might...

Yes, heaven forbid WotC add an element of (entirely optional) lore to welcome/support a demographic that has either gone unacknowledged or been made fun of by nearly every element of mainstream entertainment. Clearly, they are pandering, because this might, potentially, if all goes well, earn them literally dozens of extra dollars. In the meantime, in adding a few paragraphs of (optional) lore,...

When I play in a campaign, I'm always aware that I'm responsible for the fun of my fellow players, and of the DM. So I don't always think like my character, I sometimes make choices that seem like they would be the most fun for the game. I'll team up with a character that clashes with my own, because I know it will provide a lot of comedy to the rest of the group. Or I'll decide 'not' to do...

There would be less flavor, but let's keep in mind that we've never had subclasses until 5e (with the exception of kits in 2e maybe?), and the added flavor of 3e prestige classes was optional, but we were still able to create flavorful PCs. I disagree about the samey-ness. Feats are always individually picked i.e. every PC has different feats. All Wizards have the same class features, so you...

It is easily abusable. Start with a 16 Charisma ... and be a Warlock with no Patron (18 Charisma at level 1). Take level 2 as a Sorcerer ... with no origin to get that Charisma to 20 at level 2. Now start being a Bard at 3rd level... you have the DCs of an 8th level PC at level 2.
