Limiting to Form of Madness and cross-planar suggestion or whatever is fine. Anyway, revising form of madness to Wis drain is fine, though I guess we need a new ability name. Maybe Maddening Presence (Su): Khalk'ru's presence is so horrific that any creature within 60 feet who observes it are subject to madness. Failure on a DC 33 Will save indicates that the victim takes 1d4 Wis drain. ...

I'm arguing the current logic follows the established RAW/RAI for triggers relative to Reactions. The consistency makes sense, even if it does render the Shield Master feat less useful as written. As for whether or not they issue official errata for the feat, or how anyone runs it at their table, I couldn't care less.

But it makes no sense. And the part "regardless which armor you wear" and Jeremy´s first ruling strongly hints to the fact that the intention was different in the beginning. If the AC of every single character goes up when using a shield or being behind cover, EXCEPT for a person under the effects of a Barkskin spell... it's not the DM that is portraying things as negatively as possible. I'd say it was the spell description. But hey, if you are willing to ignore it, go right ahead. It's still a dumb connection between description and mechanic. :)

Like any system, D&D is only as good and fun as its players and DMs. Sounds like you're not having a good experience with "pickup" DMs in your area. Don't hold that against the game! I played all the old school red/blue box stuff, AD&D, skipped 4E, and did Pathfinder for several years before coming back to D&D. We split a large group, amicably, but the players who wanted D&D complained of the...

If you don't think the aarakocra can fly people around, then it can't, period. That's the rules for How to Play and adjudicating actions in D&D 5e. Generally the caster has been rolling the d4 and the other player the d20. So the scenario is: 1) DM can I use guidance of that? 2) Yes you can. 3) Alright (rolls a d4) add 2 to your check. 4) Other player rolls the check. In most games hasn't been a problem. This game is just much more skill rolling based than is typical for me, so that little ditty is becoming an actual time sink.

I'd bet a lot of money is not because of balance issues. I mean, 5e isn't finely balanced to begin with, but more importantly than that: If it was finely balanced, the druid and Polymorph would have been carefully designed around the possibility of high CR beasts. After all, a finely balanced 5e ruleset would have to take into account the fact 5e encourages homebrew and therefore such...

If it gave the druid chain mail that gives the druid an ac calculation that gets replaced in wildshape, but barkdkin does not alter the AC calculation, so maybe that's why this spell gets a different text.

But that's what the internet is for! Hooray, we can get an agreed upon common usage (which is what the parents would be using). "In common usage, "going to college" simply means attending school for an undergraduate degree, whether it's from an institution recognized as a college or a university." Now then, after the first day, do you get the car? You've not got a degree or dropped out, so...

I tend to run Eberron, where shades of grey (at least when it comes to alignment) are baked into the system. That said, I don't shy away from using "obviously evil, want to take over and/or destroy the world" types; my current campaign focuses on a cult attempting to resurrect a demonic overlord (an adaptation of HotDQ), my last campaign focused on Erandis Vol trying to re-create the Mourning as...

I see it differently, exactly opposite. I see the core problem here as this - Cover should be a penalty on the attack instead of a boost to the AC. Given the 5e design principle of having different AC calculations, choose one, then if you have to have situational modifiers, assigning them into that side of the test that uses different calculations seems fundamentally flawed. For any...

Zemryn is more concerned about keeping the party from killing each other than she is about the wolves. She was okay to let Gimlak kill them, if that was what he wanted to do, but she probably doesn't think killing the wolves is worth an incident.

Continuing along with the idea of Inherited Traits and Accidental Enchantments for magic items, we have next on our list Boots of False Tracks, from Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, p.136. • In Eveningstar, there live a handful of war wizards keep watch over the Blueleaf Gate. • This magical portal links to the Royal Gardens in Suzail. • The Blueleaf Gate is not unguarded. War Wizards...

Actually it's not a word game. Thank you for that statement, please bear with me. You get the car for going to college, irrelevant of if you're still going to college? Because normally the completion of going to college is graduation, or dropping out. Otherwise you're still going to college.

I'd check out a let's play of the Dishonored 2 level, "A Crack in the Slab" (I think it's near the endgame) that I'm sure would contain a lot of ideas. Main thing of course is to give the players lots of reasons to want to shift back and forth between the planes, and have each have different kinds of risks and dangers (not just different monsters, but different types of challenges entirely). Or...

Right Branch Heights has been built upon a largely cleared area on the right, or east, bank of the river. The village sprawls out along a sharp rocky rise and tapers downstream. The river itself is no longer navigable beyond the village as a significant falls splashes down the rocky incline. Small fishing boats are tied to various mooring and only the smoke of what seems like cookfires wafts...

In this case, the guy that professionally wrote the rules went on to professionally interpret them one way, then professionally change his mind a couple of years later and professionally re-interpret the rule a different way. I think that is definitive and incontrovertible proof that RAW, if you care a whit about such things, can be reasonably interpreted more than one way on this topic...

Of course it is. Just as taking the dash action is separate from moving. Taking the attack action gives you one or more weapon attacks (or shoves, or grapples) that you can take or not depending on the circumstances.

The description of beasts in the Monster Manual on page 6 reads: Beasts are nonhumanoid creatures that are a natural part of the fantasy ecology. Some of them have magical powers, but most are unintelligent and lack any society or language. Beasts include all varieties of ordinary animals, dinosaurs, and giant versions of animals. It does say they can have magic, but the vast majority do...
