At point blank range, Tam fires two more Elven arrows at the Giant. The first arrow: 17 (base roll) The second arrow:...

Agreed - there are a number of spells good are removing someone from a fight. Hypnotic pattern is an area of effect and a single save. Web is also an area of effect and while you can try to escape every round, it take a check (which uses your action) to do so, and you can still be re-affected in later rounds. Hold Person/Monster is inferior to both of them (and most hard control spells) as a...

Bringing up Baldur's Gate is another reason why I'm a bit surprised gibberlings haven't been updated already. This edition very much draws upon nostalgia, and playing the Baldur's Gate CRPGs would seemingly be part of that. We had xvarts updated in Volo's (somewhat to my surprise at least), but for some reason they have so far held back on gibberlings. Here's to hoping!

I don’t really no why no-myth is being drawn into the discussion (other than as part of some weird historical cosmic battle.) The original article isn’t regarding No-myth. There doesn’t seem to be any debate over whether some prep is needed. It’s just a question of how much.

But what if I'm playing Wile E Peyote in a game of Fudge? Or in a slightly more serious game of Catman (starring Adam West), our hero falls off a scaffold in the Chocolate factory. Am I really supposed to pretend the giant vat of liquid clearly labelled fudge isn't conveniently right below him?

Not if you throw a hoard of 100 or so at them in ideal conditions! Most of their stuff comes from things found in the underdark that they have scavenged. So for example, if a creature drags an adventurer down there, gear and all, gibberlings can come across the remains at some point. I'm just wondering why the ones in Baldur's Gate were on the surface, especially if they hate light.

I see it as an attempt at a solution to iteration time more than anything, that is, the time it takes a player with a dead character to get back into the primary mode of participation with the game. It takes a while to make a character, compared to earlier versions of the game. Which means that without setting up backup characters (as we do in my games), players can end up sitting out of the game...

I feel that you are creating a Straw Man sort of idea of No Myth to an extent. I mean, look, nobody literally sits down at a table with 5 other people and says "OK, we're playing an RPG, around you is nothing, make it all up!" It just isn't workable and nobody wants to do THAT. A game system has to be employed to make an RPG for example. So that has to be selected somehow. Even if the GM does...

So to start the day you have 4lbs food - half rations for 8 people (there are 10 of you) 3lbs water - half rations for 6 - so whose not having breakfast? If you don't forage for food today?

Sorry, I started to answer this yesterday and the Internet gods disagreed... Its not bad commentary at all, but you have to be careful to look at a fair representation of Story Now and No Myth techniques. Mercenaries are a good comparison, but a better one would probably be Fire Fighters because we know much more about them. They routinely go into dangerous “dungeons” to save innocents, use their skills to circumvent “traps”, overcome dangerous skill challenges, and risk serious injury or death on a regular basis.

Just entering will strip him of most of his power, and of course he will have to...

I’m sure he would let himself die and go back to Hell if it meant securing a really important objective, but I assume he generally avoids pointless...

I like the supporting cast. Some of them anyway. I also feel like he isn't as skilled as he used to be. I don't like the boomarang companions that don't stay dead. All that said, I voted love.
