Then his blood runs cold with ice his irises turning a frosty blue. Frost spread along his body and gear, creating an armor of sorts. He stood, feeling better. He eyed his sword, and briefly wondered if he could reach it. Bonus action: Second Wind Action:...

PCs and monsters don't get the same thing. And players shouldn't complain about it. If they do... then just ask them if they want to see all manner of monsters start using Second Wind and Action Surge, because the game deliberately doesn't give those fighter abilities out to the monsters even though a good percentage of them probably should. In terms of your own game though for this... what...

I agree with Elfcrusher, while limiting stats was nice and a design decision that should be kept, the utter abandonment of tertiary stat usefulness drives me ballistic. If all fighters could get some benefits from Int, for example, we might see more niche builds around being an knowledgeable fighter rather than the more conventional variety. Maybe if strength expanded the list of sneak attack...

RAW is two plus a clear case that would involve more. Key point being, saying "this is how two fo this" is not the same as saying " only two can do this" and having a reference to a case that's called out as one but would normally involve more than two is telling.

No. That's not at all what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that every weapon in the PHB is intended to be used, so if you make a campaign setting with no swords, spears or maces, you are not playing by the PHB weapon rules. You have altered them to fit your setting. There's nothing wrong with that of course, but it's still an alteration of the weapon rules.

Nalvis says, "The Orngaddrin did well in the fight against the Eastabin cleansers. We assisted as much as we could, but it was really their fantastic machines that won the day. The Orngaddrin are a noble people and convinced us to set the Eastabin prisoners free, minus their leader, to tell their tale of defeat to their city. We have yet to travel to Eastaboga but we were able to extract some...

To me this is more an approach that varies greatly between different players and likely heavily influenced by experience. I think players who have played a lot more "universal multi-genre" point by games like HERO abd some indie etc. but there are plenty tend to be more along the mindset of separate mechanics rules and setting dials. Others who either did not play a lot of those or did and...

They do not need armor, for, they have their faith in their deity to shield them from harm. "May the Gods always stand between you and harm in all the empty places you must walk."

I made an effort to stay ahead of him, but I lost a few hundred laugh points during the crash two years ago and I realized it wasn't worth worrying about it. I've already been the king, I'm happy to cede my second place spot to you if you can catch that paladin-hating psycho. :)

I disagree. I think it's one reasonable existing interpretation of the rules, right now pre-errata, to say once you've issued a command to your animal companion, it will keep on doing that same thing until you issue another command to it. So if you order it to attack in round 1, and don't order it to do anything else in round 2, it will continue to attack in round 2 without the use of the...

I find the easiest way to handle inspiration is to award it when a pc roleplays their character in a way that is faithful to their character but detrimental to them or the group. For instance, a character who is scrupulously honest tells the truth about something that gets them, or the party, in trouble; a pc who is generous to the poor gives money that he needs or wants to spend on something...

Yeah, I think one of the reasons people forget about it is that you keep "saving" it for a super important roll, and then you eventually forget. When you use the re-roll method, players tend to use it on the first semi-important miss. It keeps the mechanic more in the front of your mind.

Perhaps However this is the internet. We are in an American site owned by an English gentleman with posters from all over the globe and that is this site alone. If you were to find my stuff in the wild you'd never know a thing about myself including my frame of reference. Maybe I just don't want to antagonize either side and just share things that come from the heart and reflect...

Most priests would not wear armor in normal duties, but depending on where they live and what they expect, they would. If the PCs are storming the castle they would put it on, otherwise they have guards in armor. You could give them ceremonial something for a few points, or like the previous poster stated, you can just assign any AC you want. You can have some sort of temple power where...

A few years ago a wrote up an adventure using the song Delta Dawn as inspiration. Dawn is a ghost. The PCs goal is to help her reunite with her love. She is buried in an unmarked grave somewhere. The back story is her love's family didn't like him slumming with a townie. They hired a couple of thugs to disappear her. She died in the attempt. When the son found out he killed his family. Short answer: Yes Long answer: Yeeeeessssss Longer answer: I play DnD to have fun and I want my fun maximized. If a DM proposes a new rule, I expect it to increase fun. A rule that decreases fun is a pointless waist of time. Just about every optional rule introduced in Xanathar's, especially sleeping in armor, is a pointless waste of time that decreases the overall fun of 5e. ...

For which I'm grateful. This is a MtG setting converted to the DnD multiverse where MtG concepts do not exist. Forcing in MtG concepts like the colour system and planeswalkers would be a mistake in my opinion. As is, it looks like each guild had some of their own unique spells unless those sections in each guild are just talking about the spells they commonly use.

I do have problems when running 5e to try to strike the right balance with challenging combats. I can run a red dragon or vampire (even with their minions) that end up being complete anticlimactic push overs. Other editions seemed to provide tools that allowed greater customization or even built-in monster design that made combats fun and exciting. For example, I ran a red dragon against a low...

And that is perfectly fine, but in my case, the DM was a new member of the weekly RPG group I established a decade ago, that is hosted in my home, where my wife and I provide dinner. I made it perfectly clear to the DM that a sleeping in armor rule would not agree with me a month before Xanathar's even released. Despite my perfectly reasonable request that no such rule be introduced half way...
