It does make more sense. I also don't have as much time to prepare as I used to. Back in the day, I created my own worlds with maps, history, etc. These days I'm so busy that it's all I can do to do a bit of prep on adventures now and then. That's the main reason I run my games in the Forgotten Realms. It already has all the prep work I need done and allows me to focus on adventures within...

I would also rather try to ambush the Drow then risk getting further lost. The check is per hour which increasingly gets tougher. Chances are likely a third of us will fail the check. We have our armor and our weapons and they probably expect us to run and not an ambush.

Once there are stakes to the action declaration, it's not the case that the purpose of the move is to get the GM to relate some of the content of a fiction that s/he has made up. The player will have established some goal for his/her action - similar to the example of Aura Reading the feather. So the goal of the action declaration is to establish that whatever this is obtains. That's the...

I don't particularly care for Drizzt. I liked the Dark Elf trilogy, but I didn't feel compelled to go further. I also generally don't like the kind of society that the drow have in the books about him. it's very, *very*, clichť/cartoonish villain. I mean, if even the very sourcebooks tell you that the drow society would collapse if Lolth wasn't there breathing in their necks, and that Lolth is an...

I thought I'd have a go at making a water-focused druid. In 5e, you can easily shoot fire, lightning, ice, or arrows, but your options for a water-based character is more limited outside of refluffing another build or begging your DM to let you use pre-errata water whip from the 4 elements monk. In addition, there are a lot of interesting beasts that you can't really wild shape into because...

I have not previously seen the idea of a magic item which gets more powerful, but I like it. Variation: a magic weapon accumulates XP when it deals the deathblow to an intensely magical creature, such as an old dragon, or a lich, and every time it gains enough XP, it has a chance to level up, and/or gain another trait. In this system, no one ever forges a Holy Avenger from scratch; every Holy...

All good points except for the "showing off the world" bit, which might not be the motivation behind a journey-based campaign at all. I suspect many campaigns are or resemble journeys because journeys are a central theme of some of the primary inspirations. The Hobbit is largely about a journey there and back again. LotR is largely about a journey which later splits into several journeys. ...
