I am partial to EN Publishing's APs. Along with ehenning 's suggestion of Zeitgeist, I would recommend taking a look at War of the Burning Sky. http://wotbsadventurepath.com The campaign saga presents war in an age of magic and the horrors that it brings. Each of the 12 adventures sends the heroes on a different mission that affects the overall war effort, and the heroes must think about the...

I see what you are getting at - the idea is that either the target is harder to hit, or the EK becomes the target - yet at the table I found how the mechanics unfolded, leaned toward wanting Defense. Before I got my Plate, I didn't have the strongest AC, so being targeted all too quickly depleted my hit points. Or I would throw Shield, but an EK is limited in casts, only 2 or 3 for a big chunk of...

I can of like of all the APs are in the same setting, because it's cool if you travel through a location and one of your players can tell everyone a cool story about what his previous character experienced here. 2. Other than 1, there doesn't seem much point of settings in the first place. I just want an exciting story for my players with...

If the attacker chooses not to attack the protected target, then the ability has worked without any dice rolls necessary. Job done. This only becomes a problem if the party includes other targets of opportunity (i.e. squishy characters). A couple of other things to consider: Use cantrips and spells to appear more threatening. e.g. Minor Illusion, Enlarge (can also enable you to block a...

Sure that's another possibility. I mean if I had some material for it or a good idea, I'd probably put the encounter into a nice location. Again, depends strongly on what the players want to accomplish. Like if they really want to go to dungeon X, then I usually wouldn't force them to go through a completely different dungeon just because of a failed Survival check. And if it was all about...

Not intentionally. But vanilla ice cream outsells the other flavors. FR has been the best-selling campaign setting from D&D for decades, and it was a safe bet on WotC's part to incorporate it in the new edition. One that obviously paid off. It makes me a bit sad, since FR was a setting I never got into or cared much about back in the day. But fortunately, enough excellent 3rd party stuff...

What if it is detonated in the corner of the room? 40ft radius then? Or in a narrow tunnel? 100ft in both direction? Or at the bottom of a 10by10 deep pit? 1000ft up?

Things like nature clerics also exist and are one of the best beatdown clerics due to shillagh. Even if you banned feats and multiclassing if you altered the base spell it could still be acquired and exploited by valor bards and warlocks. Having it a feature of a druid circle might work. A better option might be to design a Druid cantrip similar to BB/GFB, or grant those cantrips as a circle feature.

There's a nice OSR game called Skyscrapers & Sorcery which does this - can check out pdf for free - https://www.rpgnow.com/product/170607/Skyscrapers--Sorcery-White-Box-Rules

If it was only available to single-class druids, and druids where banned from taking the Pole Arm Master feet, that would be fair comment. But it's pretty easy (and common) for classes which do gain extra attacks to pick up, even without a dip into druid. Magic Adept feat being the most obvious. And you don't even need to gain extra attacks - as already mentioned, stacking it with Booming...

Nah. I like to describe common MM monsters basing my descriptions on 1e illustrations. "You follow the sounds of the crying peasants until you come to the edge of the woods. Hiding in the underbrush you look across a clearing to a small village made of primitive huts, beyond which rises a mountain with a large cave entrance. You see pig-headed humanoids wearing simple mustard-yellow tunics...

A Druid does not have Extra Attacks. I don't believe this spell is designed for multiclass characters.

Complexity as Gatekeeping - clearly he was having a dig at Paizo. :p As for Forgotten Realms, I think parts of it do have a distinct 'Canadian Wilderness' frontier feel that is quite distinct from Greyhawk, and I rather like it. Some of the post-Grey Box real world cultural additions feel very bland, but I think the original concept stands up well vs most generic fantasy worlds. Overall it's...

Take ranger to 5th level. Elven accuracy for 5th level feat. Take gloom stalker at 3rd level. If multiclassing is allowed, go for 2 levels of rogue for cunning action. Combined with wood elf hiding and shooting from hidind with Elven accuracy that is 3d20 roll for attack and you take the highest. 3rd level rogue can be either Assassin or Scout. Both have their uses and are great to combine...

Chucky - Stout Halfling Berserker Barbarian. Beat Master Stomp - Goliath Valour Bard. Expertise in Tap Dancing. Pothead - 1/2 Dwarf - 1/2 Potted Plant - Wild Sorcerer gone very wrong. Crash Bandicoot - Half-Orc Monk who when misses an attack, breaks something else along the way; table, statue, wooden crate, turnip farmer etc.

Ursa agrees wholeheartedly with Ulfred. "For all the evil in the world, there are still beautiful things out there. Ye just need to open yer eyes to enjoy them." The scene lifts her spirits at not finding any game yesterday - apparently there is plenty here, and Ursa is glad she did not have to shoot one of those magnificent stags. Perception (including the +1):

I would sooner pack in off-hand attack into Attack action with main hand attack than go with this feat. Any feat that is better than +2 dex for finesse attacks is by default broken and cannot be allowed.

Reskin monsters - good idea. Personally I just made Black Magga a Kraken and the PCs were glad they subverted the AP by immediately going to (spoiler) the dam and fixing it before she could reach (spoiler) Turtleback Ferry and trash the place. :) Re +1 items - in 5e it makes sense to remove most of the Rare +1 armours but keep many of the Uncommon +1 weapons and shields.

We are going to get a huge rules update about twelve hours from when I am posting this. Do we want to use it or finish what we are up to as-is? Obviously we are not getting anywhere fast as it is. BTW, with EB disappearing, I am down a game or two. If you want, I could play Noboru to help keep group 2 going. (I know that means I will be playing two of the same game). Obviously, I will jump out if...

just combine 2 half feats together without the stat bumps if your goal is to have no stat bumps while leveling. simple. I had a similar idea, no stat bumps from race, or leveling. Just take feats. all start with the same ability array and have it across the campaign(except magic items): 18,16,14,14,12,10 or 20,18,16,14,12,10 if you want more high powered adventurers

Yes! It was just one example. Usually the outcome of a failed roll for me depends on what the players communicate to me beforehand (what they want to do, how they do it and what they want to accomplish). The only relevant thing is that the roll has a direct consequence, so you don't run into the problem of having to hide rolls and then having your players guess if they succeeded or not. A...

I like to try not to show them the picture. I would generally prefer for them to use my description of the monster to create their own image. Their minds will fill in details for certain adjectives like imposing, beautiful, grotesque, pustulent, elegant, brutish, sexy, and dreadful. Because it's their minds creating those details, they'll concoct an image that's personal to them and will...

Since my group is scattered to the four winds and thus always have to use roll20, yeah I almost always make tokens with the monster artwork on it. Likewise, when the players have a particularly noteworthy encounter I add it to a running "Hall of Infamy" that has the full artwork with a retelling of the encounter beneath it. It has proven to be surprisingly popular to flip through the highlight...

OOC: and now it works again - first roll was a 4 too ha! ( http://www.coyotecode.net/roll/lookup.php?rollname=Kalorn ) Thanks for the roll Kalorn saw the man depart, and beckoned Luko forward. He also nodded his thanks to Sesto. Now boy, I'm not quite sure I got him to run off for good - couldn't get in the proper rhythm. I don't think they are going to be foolish enough to attack this...
