Asha huffs and looks around unsure how to proceed. She scan the landing they are on and the door frame looking for anything strange or out of place. Whoever built this tomb had to have a way to disable the magical darkness so they could proceed. "We either need to figure out a way to deal with this magical darkness or we will need go back and try a different door from the first chamber."

Torbin believes that the trigger has something to do with the light of the glowing orbs being blocked by the object moving through the archway, and Drako is certain that the darts are magically conjured by the statue (and therefor theoretically unlimited in ammunition). You'd have to be invisible (or something similar) to be safe from triggering the trap.

In my experience, thrown weapons are good for NPCs and bad for PCs. The problems presented to a PC by a throwing weapon are multiple. First, he has only limited ammunition. Secondly, whenever he throws something he is throwing away something valuable. PC's are generally outnumbered and must be able to sustain long combats. And PC's generally have and need the advantage of superior gear,...

Reynard As a rule of thumb, I'd add +2 to Hit and Damage rolls, and add a 1d6 to the fire damage from its attacks. I think the CR rules in the DMG would only indicate a +1 to attacks, but I'd go a little more. Raise its AC to 21, which won't make a huge difference, but will turn a few hits into misses Raise the DC for Frightful Presence, Breath Weapon, and Wing Attack by 1 (Wis DC 20, Dex...

See, this is an example of why goal is not the sole deciding factor of whether a roll is needed to resolve an action. The goal of “move the table” is potentially achievable, but not by the approach “by picking it up” or “by pushing it myself.” However, “by three of us pushing it together” does have a reasonable chance of succeeding in achieving the goal. And a reasonable chance of failing to...

Not describing the exact weight of the table may not have been a mistake. As a DM, I can't give the players all relevant details in one description. I can only hope to identify all potential features of interest. I know that, as play progresses, we will have the opportunity to refine the players' (and often the DM's) understanding of the space. In this example, both the goal and the approach...

Consequences and repercussions are absolutely anathema to murderhobos. Some players like to kick the hornets’ nest, but most murderhobos prefer to do whatever they want, running rampant over the DM’s game. Like many types of problem player, a lot of it boils down to power within the game. RPGs, at their best, operate on a shared basis. It’s when someone tries to imbalance that dynamic, DM or...

Yeah, then the goal isn’t “get to the Moon,” it’s “get above the cover”, and the result is uncertain, so a dice roll is appropriate. The simple solution is to look at the DMG guidelines page 274 creating a monster and add AC, HP, etc based on the current CR vs the target CR. So in your case current CR is 17, you are targeting 21. Prof bonus increases by 1, AC doesn't change, HP increases by 90, etc. Most of it's pretty straightforward, although increasing damage can take a little work. I've also added class levels, but...
