These foul creatures are truly hideous crossbreeds that combine the hunting skills of the patient hunting spider and the ravenous wolf. They resemble huge, black spiders, with the heads and backs of large timber wolves.

Combat
A pack will hunt prey much as wolves do; attempting to wear it down, trip it, and then subdue it with webbing. Conversely, a lone wolf spider will hunt much like a spider, stalking its prey silently in the darkness.

Trip (Ex): A wolf spider that hits with a bite attack can attempt to trip the opponent as a free action (see page 139 in the Player's Handbook) without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the wolf.

Web (Ex): Wolf spiders often subdue prey with webbing. Lone wolf spiders will often wait in their webs to catch prey. They can use webs as Medium-size monstrous spiders (see the entry in page 210 of the Monster Manual).

Skills: Wolf Spiders gain a +4 racial bonus to Hide checks and a +6 racial bonus to Jump checks.

*Wolf Spiders gain a +8 competence bonus Hide and Move Silently checks when using their webs.

* Wolf Spiders gain a +4 racial bonus to Wilderness Lore checks when tracking by scent.

Something to throw at your arachnophobic players! I love it!

No, we Erisians seldom pray, it is much too dangerous. Charles Fort has listed many factual incidences of ignorant people confronted with, say, a drought, and then praying fervently -- and then getting the entire village wiped out in a torrential flood.

Whatever, herbs... A Blog for those with too much time in their hands.
